86th birthday on November 12th. Con-

Bride and Groom Honoured •
On Wednesday night . last friends
and relatives of Pte. Bill Edwards and
his bride met in the Township Hall
here and presented them with a mis-
cellaneous shower and address, to
which Bill made a suitable reply. The
evening was spent in dancing, On Fri-
day night Stuart. Doig and his bride,
were given a like shower in the school-
house, S. S. No. 10., where he received
his early education. Stuart has recent-
ly returned from active service over-
seas.

of Mrs, Stirnson.

on Monday and will visit her daughter,

The November Red Cross Shipment
of the Gcirrie and District Society con-

infants gowns, 5 pantie dresses, 1

Fire broke out in the living apart-
Moats of Mrs. McKnight, over Vdd-
den's bakery, on Sunday afternoon,
and considerable damage was done to'
the contents and building. Mr. Vod-
den had his bake& in full operatidn
again on Tuesday morning,

and backgrounds.

Maple Leaf Gardens.
Mr. and Mrs. Jas. Laidiaw received
word last week,that their son, Elroy,
recently returned to England from In-
dia. was in the hospital suffering from
jaundice.
The regular monthly meeting of the
Women's Institute was held on Tues-
day- last, with the president, Mrs. Cecil
Falconer in charge. After the roll-call
and opening exercises, the ladies decid-
ed that each Red Cross group in the
community would be asked to put on
an evening's entertainfent in the Hall
to aid the Building Fund, and the
Writechurch group is having a Euchre
and dance this Friday evening, with
Tiffins Orchestra, supplying the music.
Lunch will be served. The ladies then
sang "The Maple Leaf" and the meet-
ing was dismissed for the Bazaar,
when homemade baking and sewing
and vegetables were sold. The ladies
realized over $21.00. The men in the
community have been working lard to
get the station down and are asking
for more volunteers, from among those
who has not as yet lent a helping hand.
