Mount Forest, spent the week-end with

Mrs. I. J. Durst of Stratford, spent
last week at the homes of her sons,
Harold and Philip,
Mrs. H. Waller and June have re-
turned from several weeks' holidaying
in Toronto.
United Church
"What is the world doing to you"
was the theme of the address by Rev,
G. Howes at Sunday morning service
in United Church. The speaker said
the Christian church was facing its
greatest challenge and also its finest
opportunities of all ages, and said that
while great questions' will be settled
by the great powers, the real solution
rests with the individual. It is only
through the efforts of every Christian
,that lasting peace and happiness for
all the world will come, The choir
contributed an anthem and a'-large
basket of summer flowers arranged by
Mrs. J. Douglas, added brightness to
the morning service.
Local Man Breaks. Ankle
Mr, Earl Ball, local telephone line-
man, suffered painful injuries in an
accident one day last week. He was
assisting Robert Gibson in shingling
his new garage. The board of which
be was working began to slide and in
order to avoid its striking him. Earl
was forced to jump a distance of 10
feet which resulted in a fractured
ankle. The ankle is now in a cast,
and Earl's many friends wish for him
a speedy and permanent recovery.
' Air Line Hostess Interviewed
Miss Edythe Martin, R.N., hostess
on Trans Canada Airline, was a guest
of Miss Irene O'Connor of CKNX on
the Women's Club of the Air last
Wednesday. Wroxeter friends were
interested in hearing some of the in-
teresting highlights of Miss Martin's
work as an airline hostess.
The instrumental classes conducted
by Mr. Earl during the 44-45 season
in Wroxeter and Fordwicli, will be
continued during the 45-46 season.
This year all pupils attending schools
under his supervision Are privileged
to take part. Those not attending
school but anxious to join the classes
should get in touch with Mr. Earl at
an early date,
Celebrates 82nd Birtlida;
Congratulations and many Happy
Returns to Mr, John Gowdy of Salem,
who on Monday, August 18th, cele-
brated his 82nd birthday, Mr. Gowdy
is in very good health and earring on
his farm work, The good wishes of
all in the community for many more
years of good health and happiness
are extended to Mr, iGowdy.

are visiting with Mr. Harry McClen-
aghan.
Mrs. 3. A. Brandon is ' visiting in
London with her cousin, Mrs. Hodder,
Mr. Harold Vincent had the mis-
fortune to dislocate his shoulder while
threshing.
Miss Norma Vat-teal-rip has return-
ed to London after spending her vaca-
tion at her home.
Mr. and Mrs. B. Miller of Listowel,
with Mrs. Brandon.
Miss Fairy Fells is visiting with
friends in London.
Pte, Ted Oxley has arrived home
from overseas and is spending a thirty-
day leave with friends in and around
the village.

Mr, Lloyd Taylor is at his home re-
cuperating after an operation.
Mrs, Jones and son of Detroit, is
visiting with Mr. and Mrs. Leander
Good.
Pte. Clare VanCamp has returned
to Camp Ipperwash, after spending a
furlough at his home.
On the evening of V-J Day a
thanksgiving service will be held in
the Anglican .Church, at 8.30 o'clock,
Mr. and Mrs. Eugene Armitage of
London, with Mr. and Mrs. Geo. John-
ston.
The girls Excelsior class of the
United Church entertained the Triple
V class at a Weiner roast on Wednes-
day evening, at the home of Miss Shir-
ley Cham,ney.
Mr. and Mrs. Norman Stonehouse
and two daughters of London, are
spending a week with Mr. and Mrs.
R, Procter.
Mr. and Mrs. Richard Chamney and
Miss Shirley Chamney, also Mr. and
,Mrs. Harry Campbell, motored to St.
Mary's, one day last week, to visit the
school where Miss Chamney has been
engaged as teacher,
Triple V Had Charge of Service
The Triple V Class had charge of
the services on Sunday in -the Belgrave
and Brick churches. The choir which
consisted of about twenty members,
was in charge of Mrs. Geo. Johnston.
An anthem was sung also a solo by
Ross Procter. The address "Sabbath
in Our Community" was very ably
given by Kenneth Wheeler.

Miss Edith Procter, attended the fun-
eral on Friday of the late Charles Bell
of Blyth.
Lieut. Jim and Mrs. Perdue of To-
ronto, spent last week with his mother,

A lawyer was cross-examining a
little boy concerning a rock which had
been thrown by an older boy through
a window.
Lawyer: "How big was the rock!
. . . big as a pumpkin?"
Boy: "Yes, as big as a little pump-
kin," answered the boy solemnly.

ship, visited last week with her friend,
Miss Mildred Carter.
Mr. and Mrs, Melborn Cox 'of Ham-
ilton, visited recently with the form-
er's brother, ,Mr, Clarence Cox and
Mrs, Cox,
Mr. and Mrs. M. Cox, Mr. and Mrs.
C. Cox, visited with Mrs. Cox of
Goderich on Sunday.
S. S, No. 6 School House is being
treated to a fresh coat of paint.
Mr. and Mrs. Wm. McVittie were
recent Sudbury and Barrie visitors.
Mrs. R. Stonehouse, Mrs. N. E,
Ainslie, Mrs. H. Kretainger of Gode-
rich, visited on Tuesday with Mr. and
Mrs. Bert Taylor.
Mrs. Jasper McBrien of Goderich,
Mrs. Ed. Kurschenski and family of
Detroit, are visiting Mr. and Mrs.
Gordon Snell.
Mr. and Mrs. W. F. Campbell, Miss
Winnifred, Mrs. John Ford, 'visited on
Friday with Mr. and Mrs. Harry
Kretsinger of 1Goderich.
Word was received by Mr. Emer-
son Rodger, that his brother, LAC.
Leslie Rodger, had arrived in Halifax
from Overseas.
Mr. and Mrs, Douglas Campbell
and John, Mr. D. Snell, visited on
Suhday with Mr, and Mrs. E. Jamie-
son of Ashfield.
'The monthly meeting of the W.M,S.
was held on Wednesday afternoon
with 14 present, The devotional pro-
gram, was in charge of Mrs. Wm.
Carter. Mrs. Wm. Walden presided
at the piano. Prayer was led by Mrs.
Wm. McVittie. Scripture lesson was
read by Mrs. Carter. Study book was
taken by Mrs. R. Vincent. The busi-
ness was in charge of the president,
Mrs. McVittie. Responsive reading
was taken from Psalm 119, 67-76
verses, Hebrews 12, 5 verses. The roll
was answered by each one present, It
was decided not to have any quiltings
until October. A letter of sympathy
was acknowledged by Mrs. Gordon
Snell. Words of appreciation were
heard from Clare Vincent, Clifford
Walsh and Norman Rodger for boxes
and Iei ters sent to them overseas, also
from Itay Vincent of London, Ont.
The meeting closed with prayer by
Mrs. Marvin McDowell, after which
lunch was served and a social time
spent.
The many friends will be pleased to
know that. Mr. Wm. Walden was able
to return home last week from Alex-
ander Hospital, Goderich, where he
had been a patient for some weeks
with a broken bone in his leg.

Mrs. H. L. Bosnian, Miss Joan Cald-
well of Wingham, Mr. and Mrs. Dun-

Mrs. Harry Robb and Terry of Brus-
sels.
Miss Jean Campbell of Goderich,
spent the week-end under the parental
roof.
Leading Seaman Elvin Wightman,
visited friends last week at Brucefield,.
London and Glencoe.
Misses Norma and Dorothy Nethery
spent the week-end with their cousins,
Misses Phyllis and Violet Cook.
A miscellaneous shower was given
at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Wm.
Govier, in honor of their daughter,
Mrs. Sarto Haley and Mr. Haley of
Morris township, who were recent
newlyweds. The address was given by
Mr. Marvin McDowell. Mr. Haley re-
plied thanking the friends for their
gifts and good wishes to Mrs. Haley
and himself.

visiting her sister, Mrs. NV, A. Camp-
bell. •

this week at Grand Bend
Mr. and Mrs. Walter Davidson, of
Bluevale, Mrs. Stuart Sanderson and
Miss Catherine Sanderson, of London,
were Sunday visitors with Miss Mae
Davidson.
Mrs, Cliff Denny and daughter
Nancy, visited last week with Mr. and
Mrs. Vern Denny.
Miss Eleanor Wearring of London,
is a guest this week of Mr. and Mrs.
D, S. MacNaughton,
Mr, and Mrs. J, N. Allen, Mrs. J. J.
Allen, Jimmy and Marjorie, Mrs.
Bevington also Mr. and Mrs. Al Shott,
of Cleveland, were week-end guests of
Mr. and Mrs. Al Munroe at their cot-
tage at Amberly.
There will be no service in United
Church on Sunday morning next,
when the annual holiday Sunday will
be observed.

daying with his parents, Mr. and Mrs,
