Rev. A. H. Wilson of the Presby-
terian Church is taking holidays dur-
ing the month of August, and on Sun-
day the service was in charge of Mr.
Jas. Laidlaw, with Mrs. Robt. Mow-
bray leading in prayer, and Missvt Annie
Laidlaw reading the Scripture lesson.
The meditation period was taken by
Mrs. Johnston Conn, and Mr. Jas Wil-
son sang a solo. Mrs. George Fisher
gave the address.
Miss Marjorie Purdon of Elora, and
Miss Agnes Conley of Brantford, spent
the week-end with Mr. and Mrs. Robt.
Purdon and all visited with Mr, and
Mrs. Gordon Rintoul of St, Helens.
Over two hundred met at the home
of Mr. and Mrs. Ben ,McClenaghan on
Friday evening last at the reception
held for the newlyweds, Mr. and Mrs.
Wm. Parker. Among those from a dis-
tance were, Sgt. Melvin McClenaghan
of Camp Ipperwash, and his wife of
Kitchener, who spent the week-end
there, Mr. and Mrs. J. D. Mackay of
Paisley, Mr. and Mrs. Fred Tapp and
daughter, and Mr, and Mrs. 'Wilfred
Parker and son, and Miss Doreen Ben-
nett of London, Mrs. Biggins of De-
troit, Mr. and Mrs. Frank Jones of
Clinton, Mrs. Knight of Marlette,
Mich., Mrs. Fred Culbert, and Mr. and
Mrs. Ross Nichol of Listowel, and Mr.
and Mrs. Harry Moss of Glencoe. The
young folks danced on the big platform
on the lawn. Lunch was served by the
hostess, and all enjoyed the social
time.
Miss Knowles of Kitchener, spent
the week-end at the home of Mr. and
Mrs. Robt. McClenaghan.
Mr. and Mrs. Lawson Majury and
children of Paisley, spent Sunday at
the home of her sister, Mrs. Albert
Coultes, and Mr. and Mrs. George Ed-
lington of London, spent the week-end
there,
Mrs. Jack Gillespie and baby Donna,
and Miss Winnifred Farrier, returned
home on Saturday after spending the
past five weeks at a cottage at Kin-
tail.
Tpr. Roy Robinson and Chas. Rob-
inion spent the week-end with their
relatives at Delhi, and Mr. and Mrs.
Albert Cameron and Mr. and Mrs.
Ralph Cameron of Ashfield„ visited on
Sunday with Mr. and Mrs. Mason
Robinson.
Mr. and Mrs. Hugh Gulley of Wing-
ham and Mr. and Mrs. Patrick Welsh
of St. Augustine, visited on Friday at
the home of Mr. and Mrs, Amos Cor-
nelius.
Miss Gwendoline Irwin and Miss
Beatrice Shelby, spent part of their
holidays with the former's parents, Mr.
and Mrs. Herson Irwin, and left on
Thursday to. spend the week-end at
Grand Bend befbre returning to their
positions at London on Monday.
Mrs. Milton McBurney and Jean and
Gwendoline, of London, are spending'
two weeks with their Shiell and Mc-
Burney relatives in East Wawanosh.
Mr. and 'Mrs. Edwin Irwin and
daughter Jean of Goderich, visited for
a few days last week at the home of
Mr. and Mrs. Herson Irwin and with
Mr. and Mrs. Harold Walker.
Hydro was turned on in the homes
of Harold Walker, Robt. Scott, Noble
Greenaway, George Walker, Alec Lea-
ver, and Allirt Pattison, on Tuesday
last week, and they report that the
12th line is now lit up like Broadway.
Miss Bertha Mackay returned to To-
ronto on Monday after spending the
past week with relatives here.
Mrs. Robt. McKenzie of Wingham,
spent the week-end at the home of her
niece, Mrs. Lorne Johnston.

Newlyweds Honoured
Friends gathered in the Township
Hall here on Friday night and, pre-
sented Mr. and Mrs. George Nichols,
newlyweds, with a miscellaneous
shower and address to which they re-
sponded in a few words. Music for
the dancing which followed, was sup-
plied by 1Gorrie orchestra.
Benefit Game Held.
Some weeks ago Mr. Wesley Gal-
laway had the misfortune to have his
hand hurt during, a ball game here, and
only recently was able to have the cast
removed. On Tuesday night a benefit
game followed by a dance was held for
him, with a very successful result.
Mr. and Mrs. Harold Edgar and
little daughter, Toronto, spent the
week-end with his parents, Mr. and
Mrs. Gordon Edgar.
Mr. and Mrs. Telford Montgomery,
Kitchener, spent the week-end with
relatives in the community:

and Sgt. Ted Elliott, Wingham, Were
guests at the home of Mr. and Mrs.
R. Gs Newton last week. Mr. and
Mrs, Carl Newton, Ronald and George
of Newtonbrook, were week-end guests

for a longer vacation.
Window Smashed, Thermometer
Broken
On Tuesday night last, some person
or persons banged against the large
front window in the residence of Mr.
John Montgomery on Main street, and
smashed it to atoms, while Mr. J.
Cameron Edgar had his therniometer
broken. Can it be the young people
of today are becoming more careless
of the other people's properties or
how come these things happen?
Mr. W. Brown, Elora, is visiting his
son, Mr. Gordon Brown this week.
Mrs. Cann and daughter Maureen,
of London,' are guests of Mrs. Stewart
this week.
Mr. Harold King attended sports
day in Carlsruhe on Monday and many
others from here attended the sports
in Goderich.
Rev. and Mrs. Nobes and little son
are on their vacation.

with his mother, Mrs. Ida Ashton.

the dance in Belgrave, on Friday

Sunday for the R.C.A.F. Camp at
Hagersville, after spending her holi-
days with her parents here.
Miss Myrtle Beecroft, Reg.• N., of
New London, Conn., is visiting at the

croft, after spending the past two
weeks with relatives at Toronto and
Barrie. Miss Florence Beecroft is

recently returned from South America,
by aeroplane, ate at present visiting
his brothers, Wellesley and John
Strong. Mr. Strong for the past ten
years has been Canadian Trade Coma
missiorier to the Argentine and has
now been posted to New York City as
Canadian Consulate General.

The regular meeting of the Wo.
man's Missionary Society was held on
August 2ttd,_ at the home of Mrs,
Le6nard. Rattan, when eight Members
and ten visitors were present.,
Mrs. Wylie presided for an interest-
ing and profitable program which
opened with hymn "For the beauty of
the earth." Mrs. A. Ruttan read the
23rd Psalm and an 'Indian translation
of the same; followed by prayer by
Mrs. Whitley. Mrs. Wylie gave a
splendid paper on "Life's Interrup-
tions." After singing hymn "0 Master
let me walk with thee", Mrs: R. Ash-
ton read a leaflet on the Canadian
Indian, prepared by Dr. George Dor-
ey, Associate sec'y of the Board of
Home Missions and who has respons-
ibility for the administration of the
Indian work Undertaken by the United
Church of Canada, He summarizes the
Indian situation in Canada; the plans
and kinds of work which our church'
is carrying on today and matters it
^must face in the future.
Miss Alice Edgar gave a reading
entitled "What Counts". It isn't so
much where we live as how we live.
The hymn "Summer suns are glow-
ing" was followed by a paper by Miss
Bessie Wylie, giving thoughts on
rationing as in the time when manna
was supplied to the Isrealites in Old
Testament times. Why worry for the
morrow as to-morrow will take care of
itself. Let us trust each day in our
Heavenly Father.
Mrs. Jas. Strong gave an interesting
account of the Women's work done in
Argentine• Republic' where Mr. and
Mrs. Strong have spent many years.
The president took over for business
period and program closed with hymn
"This is my Father's world" and The
Lord's Prayer in unison.
A dainty lunch was served by, the
hostess and a social half hour spent.
