Craig led in prayer, Mrs. Frank Coul-
ter was in charge of the meditation
period, Ann McInnis sang, "What a
Friend We Have In Jesus", and Miss
Annie Kennedy led in prayer, Mrs,
Robert Ross and Mrs. Dawson Craig,
sang a duet, The speaker for•the oc-
casion was Mrs. 0. G. Anderson, who
spoke on the responsibilities of Christ-
ian women outside the church, asking
all to exert a Christain influence on the
questions of to-day. Mrs, McIllrath
and Mrs, Gordon McBurncy sang a
duet, and Mrs, Mowbray led in prayer
to close the meeting, with all repeating
the Lord's Prayer in unison. Lunch
was served by the hostess and the
social time enjoyed by all.
The ladies of the W. M. S. of the
United Church met on Wednesday last
at the home of Mrs. Garnet Farrier,
with the President, Mrs. J. G. Gilles-
pie, in charge. Mrs. Scholtz read the
scripture lesson and Mrs. Fox led in
prayer. Mrs. J. D, Beecroft read the
chapter from the Study book, West
of the Date Line and Mrs. Jas. Fal-
coner led a sing-song of well known
hymns with her violin. Mrs. Mac.
Ross led in prayer for the missionary
workers, Many were pleased to know
that Miss Edith Clarke of Teeswater,
is home on furlough from Africa. This
society has been invited to attend a
special meeting at St. Helens on Aug-
ust 8th,, when Rev, Mr. Newton will
be the special speaker.
Mr. and Mrs. Roy McKay and their
daughter, Shirley of Buffalo, and his
mother, Mrs. Chas. MacKay of Brus-
sels spent Sunday with Mr. and Mrs.

two weeks at the houses of her sisters,
,Mrs, Leaver and Mrs. Mel3nrney and
with other Turnberry relatives,
Miss Euphemia Deacon of London,
who had been spending this week at
the home of her Parents, Mr. and Mrs.
Leask McGee, Miss Helen and her
chum recently took the five day lake
trip from Owen Sound to Whitefish
Bay.
A reception is being held this Fri-
day evening at the home of Mr. and
Mrs. Ben McClenaghan in honour of
the newlyweds, Mr. and Mrs. Bill Par-
ker, whose marriage was solemnized
in London, on Friday, July 20th,
W.O. Norman Welwood received
word last week that he had been pro-
moted to Pilot •Officer. Congratula-
tions.
A splendid gathering, taxing the In-
stitute Hall to capacity, was held on
Friday evening, when the whole com-
munity turned out to welcome home
the boys, who have returned home
from overseas during the past month.
The committee in charge planned to
hold a social gathering for this pur-
pose on the last Friday night of each
month. With Rev. A. H. Wilson in
charge of the meeting, and the four
guests, P.O. Norman Welwood, a
prisoner-of-war, Corp. Bert Cullimore,
from Holland, Tpr. Irwin ,McClena-
ghan from Italy and Holland, and Pte.
, Elmer Huffman from Italy and a
prisoner-of-war from 'Germany, on the
platform, a short program was pre-
sented by local talent. Reeve J. D.
Beecroft welcomed the boys home of-
ficially. At the conclusion of the pro-
gram, Rev. Mr. Wilson presented each
war guest with a leather wallet as a
remembrance and each one had an op-
portunity to tell, in their own interest-
ing way, about the lands where they
had been during the past years, and in-
teresting things about the people there.
Mr. and ' Mrs. "Ted" Newton and
Mrs. Pyke spent the week-end with
friends in Toronto.

Sunday with his brother, Mr. and Mrs.
Oliver Gallaway near ,Wingliam.
Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Wood of ,Lake-
let, also Mrs. R. G. Dane was Sunday
guests of the former's daughter, Mrs.
Earl Toner and Mr. Toner.
Mr. and Mrs. Harold Hyndman and
little daughter, spent Sunday with her
parents, Mr. and Mrs. Dilworth of
Ethel.

pital on Friday, July 27th., 1945, to
Mr. and Mrs. Harold Robinson a
daughter.
After singing the National Anthem,
lunch was served and the social time
enjoyed by all. Dancing was enjoyed
until closing time, with local talent
supplying the music.
Tpr. Irwin McClenaghan arrived
home on Friday, coming from England
on the New Amsterdam.
Mrs, Hector Hamilton of Brant-
ford visited recently at the home of
her father, Mr. John Beecroft and Mr.
and Mrs. Robert Watson and son,
Robert, and Janet of Brucefield, visit-
ed there on Sunday.
Mr. Hector MacKay celebrated his
ninety-ninth birthday quietly on Sun-
day. His family in this community
visited with him during the afternoon,
and Miss Bertha MacKay of Toronto,
is spending this week at her home.
The many friends of Mr. MacKay in
this district offer congratulations. "
Miss 'Louise Martin of Kincardine,
spent the weekend with her parents,
Mr. and Mrs. Chas. 'Martin.
Mr. and Mrs. John Gillespie, have
not been as well 'as usual during the
past week. Each took a tumble re-
cently but Mrs. Gillespie has been con-
fined to her bed over the week-end.
Mrs. Malcolm McNeil and children
of Belgrave, have been staying at the
home of her brother, Mr. Donald Mar.
tin, since their house was burned down
in Belgrave on Friday evei.a.g. They
were 'unable to save any of the con-
tents, which means considerable loss,
Mr. Wm. Peddle fainted and fell
from the hay mow while working at
Mr. Fred Davidson's last week. He
was taken to the home of his sister,
Mrs. J., G. Gillespie, where he has been
very ill.
Mr. and Mrs. Morgan Jones and
children of Clinton, also Mr. Beth
Gaunt of Galt, visited on Sunday at
the home of Mr. and Mrs. George Mc-
Clenaghan.
Mr. Clarence McClenaghan had
charge of the service in Blyth United
Church on Sunday and his parents,
Mr, and Mrs. Robert McClenaghan,
visited at the home of Mr, Harry Mc-
Clenaghan, Belgrave.
Corp. Doris McClenaghan is enjoy-
ing a furlough of ten days at her home
here.
Mr. and Mrs. Alex Robertson spent
Sunday at the home of her brother,
Mr. Walter Forester of Ripley,
Mr. and Mrs. Roy McKee and
children of Teeswater, spent Sunday
with Mr. and Mrs. Aldin Purdon.
Mr. and Mrs. Gordon Elliott and
family spent Sunday at Kincardine,
with her mother, Mrs. Robert Mitchell,
who has been staying at the Galbraith
cottage there. Misses Marjorie and
Isabel stayed to spend the week there.
Mrs. Orton Grain spent a week in
Woodstock, with her husband, who is
stationed there and a week with her
sister, Mrs, Stevenson of Thorndale,
and both spent the week-end at the
honk of Ills parents here.
The midsummer meeting of the W.
M. S,, of the Presbyterian church was
held on Thursday last at the home of.
Mrs. Jas. McInnis, with members from
Calvin and Langside in attendance.
Mrs, Abbot Mtwbray was in charge
of the Meeting, Mrs. W. j. Coulter
read the Scripture lesson and Mrs,

• A large number of relatives and
friends gathered in the Township Hall
here on Friday night last to honour
Mr. and Mrs. Carl Dinsmore, newly-
weds who were recipients of many
beautiful gifts. The evening was spent
in dancing, Gorrie orchestra supplying
the music.
The L. 0. L. of Howick District are
holding their decoration service in
Gorrie cemetery, on Sunday, August
5th., at 3,30 p.m.
Mr. C. W. Williams, Stratford, and
sister, Mrs. Miller of Florida, were

Church on Thursday, evening at 8.30
o'clock, Rev, Mr. Foster and Rev.

Lieut. W. E. Newton, "Bill" to all
his friends, arrived home on Thursday
after spending two years in England,
where he graduated as a Lieut.. A
family dinner was held at his home on
Thursday evening in honour of this oc-

Miss Ray McIntyre and daughters
of Owen Sound, spent Thursday with

Dinsmore - Bell
Gorrie United Church Parsonage,
was the scene of a lovely wedding,
when Helen Esther Irene, daughter of
Mr. and Mrs. Morley Bell of Gorrie,
became the bride of Mr. William Carl
Dinsmore, Gorrie. Rev. Mr. Howse,
was the officiating clergyman. The
bride was charming in a street length
frock of white silk Jersey with white
accessories and straw head-dress with
shoulder length veil. She carried a.
sheaf of American Beauty and White
Killarney roses tied with bridal ribbon.
Miss Edith Dinsmore, sister of the
groom, was bridesmaid. She wore a
dainty frock of turquoise blue sheer
with white accessories and carried a
colonial bouquet of Madame Butterfly
roses. Mr. Max Bell, brother of the.
bride was groomsman. A reception
was held at the home of the bride's
parents, where a buffet luncheon was
served to immediate relatives. After
a wedding trip to Owen Sound and
Wiarton they will reside on the
groom's farm, concession 10, Howick.
For travelling the bride donned 'a violet
dress,,beige topcoat and her accessor-
ies were brown.
Relatives were present from Toronto
and other points.

London on Thursday last to meet their
brother, Roy, who had returned home
from overseas on the New Amsterdam.

family gathering at the home of Mr.
and Mrs, Calvin Robinson of Morris.
Mr. and Mrs. Elmer Purdon also were

Many in E. Wawanosh, will extend
sympathy to the family of the late Mrs.
Graham Chamney, who passed away in
Victoria Hospital, London on Sunday
afternoon. Her husband is overseas,
and she leaves a little boy.
