A reunion of the Wightman family was held on Saturday afternoon at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Earl Wightman, in honour of L.A.C. Ivan Wightman, Harold Wightman of Toronto and Leading Seaman Elvin Wightman. Friends were present from Wingham, Belgrave, Blyth, Molesworth, Glencoe, Brucefield and Clinton, East Wawa- nosh. The young folk enjoyed bath- ing in the river. Gaines were also en- joyed and a social time spent by al:. Fifty-six sat down to a lovely picnic supper by the river. Messrs. S. of the United church are withdrawing their August meeting observing the annual holiday month. Miss Alice Gowdy is now home from. Listowel Hospital and improving each day. Her young sister had the mis- fortune to fall down. the cellar steps breaking her arm in three places. We hope both will have a speedy recovery. Meet In Holland Mr. and Mrs. Ward Sharpin 4th line of Turnberry ,received a letter last week from their son, Clark,,in which he told of a visit with his old friend, and school chum, Les. Harris. Clark, who was stationed at Appledorn, Hol- land, rode a bicycle 45 miles arriving at 2 p,m. and leaving for his own sta- tion at 9 p.m. Les. was the first sol- dier Clark had met from his own home community since going overseas and no doubt it was a very happy get-tow gether, Bride and Groom Presented The new community Hall at Blue- vale was the scene of a happy gather- ing when a capacity number were present to honour a bride and groom, Mr. and Mrs. Raymond Henning, (nee. Ruth Lucas) and presented them with a lovely Studio couch and a gift of money which presentation was made on behalf of their friends and neigh- bours by Stanley Dennis, Chester Hig- gins and Grant Wilton. The address was read by Earl Elliott. Raymond expressed deep appreciation of the gifts on behalf of himself and bride, Dancing was enjoyed and refresh- inents served by the ladies including bride's acke, Mr. and atfrs. Ralph McCrae spent the past week with friends in Toronto. Held Annual Picnic The United Church congregation held their annual picnic in the Gode- rich Park on Monday afternoon. There was well over a hundred in attendance and all report a good time. Races, a softball game and swimming were en- joyed during the afternoon and at the supper hour all gathered in the park where, the ladies served lunch. Rev, G. H, and Mrs. Dunlop are spending their vacation in Ottawa. WESTFIELD Miss Coline Clarke of St. Cathar- ines, Mrs. Win. Weir of Hespeler, occupied the pulpit at Knox Presbyterian church and at Belinore on Sunday. He spoke from the text, "Sirs We Would See Jesus." The Sunday school arranged to bold the annual picnic at Lions Park, Sea- forth on Wednesday of next week. There was no service in the United Church, Next Sunday Rev. John But- ton of Brigden will occupy the pulpit at Bluevale and Ebenezer. Picnic Held The Women's Association of the United Church sponsored a picnic on the church grounds this week. A good program of games and sports was run off for the children arranged by Mrs. George Thomson. Refreshments were served and a good time enjoyed. Mr, and Mrs. Damrow of Detroit, are holidaying with Mr, and Mrs Harry Elliott. Mr. and Mrs. John Geddes, Belgrave spent Sunday with Mrs. Robertson and Miss Fraser, Mrs. Yeomans of Detroit, is visiting her sister, Mrs. P: S, MacEwen, Mr. and Mrs. Harvey Messer and daughter, Betty, Toronto, are spend- ing a holiday at their home here, Mr, and,Mrs. W. 5, Johnston were Sunday visitors with Mr. and Mrs. Harry Johnston at Walton. IvicArn whose mother was formerly Miss Mary Cameron has recently returned from overseas, Walter McFarlane, who arrived from overseas on Friday, with his wife and family of Illuevale, were week-end visitors with his sister, Mrs. Gordon McPherson and Mr. McPherson. The annual social meeting of the W. M. S., of the United church, will be held in the church on Wednesday, August 8th., at 2.30. Rev, M. G. New- ton will be the special speaker and the ladies from the Ashfield circuit and from the Whittchurch United church societies have been invited. An invita- tion is eX'tended to all the ladies of the community. Mrs. E, J. Thom spent the week-end the guest of his daughter', Mrs. Al. Martin and Mr. Martin at Wasaga Beach.
