Mrs, Buckton and her little niece. Her
many friends are pleased to see her
so completely recovered after her oper-
aton on her back, when over sixty
stitches were used to close the incision
made.
Pte, Elmer Huffman returned home
from overseas one day last week and
was taken to the home of his parents,
Mr. and Mrs. Roy Huffman, of Lang-
side. ►
Mr. and Mrs. Frank Vanner and
sons, Percy and jrnmie ,of London,
spent Sunday at the home of Mr, and
Mrs. Amos Cornelius. Their daugh-
ter, Mrs. Morris Edith and her son,
John, left last week to be with her
husband in London, England, where
he has been in the hospital for some
months,
Mr, and Mrs. Tobias Janzi and son,
Donald of Milverton, are spending a
few days this week at tre home of her
brother, Mr, George Fisher,
Mr. and Mrs. Lorne Johnston visited
on Sunday at the home of her sister,
Mrs. Fred Plaetzer of Auburn, Mrs.
A. Fox accompanied them, and all vis-
ited with Goderich relatives.
Malty will remember the Macintosh
family who lived about 30 years ago
in the house owned by Mr. William
Barbour, Mabel now Mrs. Moon and
her daughter, and son-in-law, Mr. and
Mrs. Biggins of Stevensville, and
Sarah Mrs. Erb of Teeswater, have
been renewing old acquaintances in the
village during the past week.
Mr. Pete Kennedy and Miss Annie
Kennedy and other Kennedy relatives
and Mr. and Mrs. Geo. Fisher and fam-
ily, and Mr. and Mrs. Jantzi and Don-
ald spent Sunday at Goderich at the
Lake.
Mrs. Finnigan and Chester of
Crewe, and Mr. and Mrs. Gershom
Johnston and Alice and. Jack, visited
on Sunday at the home of Mr. and
Mrs. Cecil Chamney.
Mr. and Mrs. Albert Bieman enter-
tained their neighbours and friends on
Friday evening last. Six tables of pro-
gressive euchre were played. All en-
joyed the social time.
Tommy and Kathleen St. Marie,
who spent the past month with their
grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Jas. St.
Marie, returned to their home at St.
Catharines with their father on Sat-
day. Mr. and Mrs. Fred A. Robinson
and children of Toronto, who have
been visiting with his parents at Gode-.
rich, and Mr. and Mrs. Dean Brennan
and daughter, Lois Anne of Toronto,
spent the week end withnir. and Mrs.
St. Marie, and Mrs. « Robinson and
Mrs. Brennan with their children, are
staying this week with their parents.
Miss Bert Simpson of Teeswater, is
visiting with her grandmother, Mrs.
Will Conn.
Mr. Archie Taylor of North Bay, is
visiting at the home of Mrs. Wm. Tay-
lor.
Mr. Herbert Pettapiece and Jamie-
son, and Mr. and Mrs. Wallace Conn
and Elaine, visited on Sunday with Mr.
and Mrs. Ed. Wadell of Bluevale.

tives of Mr. and Mrs. Russell Ross
was held on Monday evening at the
home of the bride's parents, Mr. and
Mrs, Earle Caslick of Culross. All
enjoyed the social time.
Mr. John T. Currie left last week
with Mr. and Mrs. Bibb of Toronto,
to be with them at their summed cot-
tage on Lake Erie.
Mr. and Mrs. Nathaniel Bolt and
Md. and Mrs. Harold Cook and babe,
of Marnoch, visited on Sunday with
Mr. and Mrs. John Purdon.

Flier Lost Life May 25th.
Mr. and Mrs. James H. Watson olf
Gladstone, Man., have received word
that their son, W. 0. 2 Thomas Stew-
art Watson, lost his life on May 25th.,
while in performance of his duties.
The aircraft crashed near Trier, Ger-
many, where he was killed. His body
was recovered and was buried in an
American Military cemetery in France

United church was very largely at-

ion attended in a body. the sermon
was preached by Rev, Kenneth Moy-
er and the church was decorated with
flowers and a large Union Jack. W,
0. Watson's mother was the former
Annie Ste art of Bluevale. He was a
nephew of Mrs, W. J, Johnston.
Patsy Stewart, 11..years old, grand-
daughter of Mr, J. Chilvers, came first
in a class of 43 at Prince 9f Wales
School, Hamilton, She made 83% in
the examination for entrance into sixth
grade and won three diplomas, special
honor and music.
The Johnston family annual re-un-
ion was held on Saturday at the home
of Mr. and Mrs. cooper Nethery on
Highway No. 4, Belgrave. There were
45 present, Dinner and supper was
served and during the afternoon games
were enjoyed,

A.F., Trenton, spent the week-end at
their home.
Miss Patsy Stewart of Hamilton,
is spending her summer vacation with
her grandaparents, Mr. and Mrs. J.
Chilvers and accompanied them to
Lakelet where they spent Sunday with
friends.
Mr. and Mrs. Hilliard Jefferson,
Louise, Bobbie and Mary of Auburn,
spent Sunday with Mr, and Mrs. Geo.
Thornton.
Mr. R. F. Garniss was a recent vis-
itor with Mr. and Mrs. Charles Gar-
niss. at Seaforth.

Miss Florence Fowler and Birke

Weldon Robertson had the misfor-
tune .to break a small bone in his wrist
when swimming at the mill pond, He
has, the- injured arm in a cast.

iting with relatives and attended the
Johnston re-union on Saturday.

visited over the week-end with her
sister, Mrs. W. E. Weir and Mr. Weir.
Miss Eve Willits of Waterloo, is at
present visiting her parents, Mr. and
Mrs. Melvin Willits.
Mr. and Mrs. Alvin Wray and Miss
Joy Wray of Toronto, spent a few
days last week with Mr. and Mrs.
Gordon Wray. Mr. Wray returned
with them for a few days visit in the
city.
Misses Hazel and Minnie Weir, who
teach in Toronto, are spending their
vacation with their parents, Mr. and
Mrs. D. L. Weir.
Mrs. Hatfield of Toronto, is visiting
her mother, Mrs. Edwin Bennett and
other friends,
Mrs. McKay of Brussels and her
son and wife and children from Buf-
falo, called on Mr. Edwin Palmerone

Bick W.. M. S. Entertains
Brick United Church Woman's Mis-
sionary Society, East Wawanosh en-
tertained the, auxiliaries of Belgrave,
Whitechutch and Calvin at the church
on Thursday afternoon where there
was a good! attendance from all units.
Mrs. Harold J. Snell, Auburn was the
special speaker.
The president, Mrs. Leslie Wight-
man, conducted the meeting. The
Bible reading was taken by Mrs. S.
McBurney and Mrs. G. Beecroft told
a story.. An article for meditation was
read by Mrs. G. 1-1, Dunlop, Mrs, H.
Irwin led in prayer.
The social part of the program, ar-
ranged by Mrs, H. Irwin, consisted of
a reading by Mrs. A. Vincent, Bel-
grave; solo, Mrs. E. Scholtz, White-
church, accompanied by Mrs. R. W.
Farrier, and a duet by Mrs, G. Maur-
ney and Mrs. Alex. Robertson, accom-
panied by Miss Jean Leaver, who was
at the organ for the meeting. Refresh-
ments were served by the younger
members.

'Over forty attended the picnic at S.
S. No. 9, Kinloss, when the teacher,
Miss Jean McMillan, and the supply
teacher, Mrs. Brown, and the pupils
entertained the folk of the section.
After a program of games and races,
all enjoyed the baseball game. After,
lunch the children presented their
teacher, Miss McMillan, with a table
and book-ends, and presented Mrs.
Brown with a pretty vase. The teach-
ers thanked them fittingly, Miss Mar-
garet McDonald of Ripley has been
engaged for the next school year.
Mr. and Mrs. Fred Clarke of Luck-
glow, spent Sunday with her father,
Mr. Robert ,Carrick and Miss Susan.
Mr. and Mrs. Albert Coultes and
(children spent Sunday with Mr. and
Mrs. Alex Leaver, of E. Wawanosh.
The ladies of the Red Cross Society
were holding a tea on Tuesday after
the regular monthly meeting of the
Women's Institute.
Quite a number front here had the
pleasure of seeing the eclipse in differ-
ent stages of progress on Monday

Fordwich, were at Ripley last week
attending the funeral of his father, the
late James Pollock, known to many in
this district.
Mr. Robert Arbuckle and Mr. Jas.
Currie of Wingham, visited on Sunday
with Mr, and Mrs. Russel Gaunt.
Mr. Robert Laidlaw spent last week
at his home here. On Sunday Mr.
and Mrs. Laidlaw and sons visited
with her mother, Mrs. Jos. Holmes of
Clinton and at 1Goderich.
About 150 attended the Ross recep-
ton •held at the home of Mr. and Mrs.
Robert Ross on Wednesday evenng
last, in honour of the newlyweds, Mr.
and Mrs. Russel Ross, Among those
who spent a few days at the home
were Mss Edna Carr of Wingham and
Mr. George Ross of Owen Sound.
Sgt. Doris McClenaghan of Hagers-
ville, spent the week-end with her par-
ents, Mr. and Mrs. Ben McClenaghan.
Quite a number from here attended
the Induction services at St. Helens on
Frday night, when Rev. W, A. Bee-
croft of Wingham, was in charge of
the meeting and Rev, Mr. Newton had
charge of the services here on Sunday.
Miss Kay Murray and Mrs. Harold
Goyeatt of Windsor, spent the week-
end at the home of the latter's sister-
n-law, Mrs. Aldin Purdon.
Mr. and Mrs. John Stacey and fam-
ily of Wingham, spent Sunday at the
home of Mr. and Mrs. Cecil Falconer,
and Mr. and Mrs. Rellison Falconer
left on Sunday for their home in Tor-
onto.
Mr. and Mrs. Ezra Wellwood re-
ceived word last week that their son,
W. 0. Norman Wellwood had left
England for home.

arrived home from Toronto last week,

Meeting
The W. M. S. meeting of Knox
Presbyterian church met in the Sun-
day School Room this week, mein- 1
bers of the Mission Band, under the
direction of the Superintendent, Mrs.
Gordon Mundell, conducted the meet-
ing. The M. B. President, Norma
Moffatt read the call to Worship and
offered prayer. Billy Robertson read
the scriptuure lesson, Members of the
Band sang a chorus and recitations
were given by Bobbie and Donald
McMurray, Bruce Robertson, . Jack
Elliott and Elizabeth Ann McKinney
and vocal numbers by Eleanor Smith,
Norma and Etoille Moffatt, Bruce
Rdbertson and Jack Elliott, The topic
based on Christ's words to his discip-
les, "I will make you fishers of Men"
was taken by Tileen McKinney. Mrs.
Mundell conducted a Bible Contest.
The Sr. Auxiliary held a short business
meeting.
United Church Picnic, July 26th.
The Women's Association of the
United church met on Thursday after-
noon in the Sunday school room. The
president, Mrs. M. L. Aitken, presided.
Mrs. George Thomson read the report
of the Secretary and gave the treasur,
.er's statement, The meeting decided
to sponsor a picnic on the church
grounds on July 26th, During the af.
ternoon the ladies quilted.
