ment and its uses.
There was a long discussion in re-
gard to the purchase of \this equipment
and also discussion , as to whether a
truck would be better for this purpose
and less costly, •
Councillor Spry presented a report
of a committee composed of himself,
Councillors Reavie and Johnson, in.re-
gard to cost of tractor equipment and
truck equipment. The report Consid-
ered that the net cost of operating
truck would be $1100, gross cost $3100,
and the net cost for operating tractor
equipment as $2900,.gross cost $4150.
Late on in the evening it was moved
by Councillors Spry and Reavie, thkt
we purchase a two-wheel drive, 3-ton
truck, with V plow-with wing. Truck
to have double reduction rear axle.
This motion was lost only the mover
and seconder supporting "it.
It was then moved by Councillor
Johnson and Kennedy that the tender
of the G. W. Crothers Co. be accepted
for the equipment noted above, the
cost to be $8265 f.o.b. Wingham. This
motion was carried with Councillors
Spry and ReaVie voting againsOthe
motion.
The Mayor brought up 'the matter
of garbage collection contract which
he Stated would expire the end of
April. It was moved by- Councillor
Johnson and Reeve Evans, that tend-
ers be received by the town clerk up
to 4 p.m., Monday, April 2nd. The
tender to -be for the period from May
1st, 1945 to April 30th, 1946. '
On motion of Councillors Wilkin-
son and Johnson it was decided to
purchase six office chairs.
CUBS WERE NESTS
OF THE LIONS CLUB

Senior Sixer John Hanna assisted by
Slicers John Crawford and Kenneth
McLean, received their new members
in suitable Cub manner. A number
of proficiency badges were also pre-
sented to Cubs who had been examined
previously. President Wilf, thanked
the Cubs for their demonstrations and
felt that it was al education for Lions

The Finance Committee of the Red
Cross held a very successful dance in
the Town Hall on Thursday evening.
Probably the last euchre party of the
season will be held 'Wednesday of this
week in 12/. C. rooms.
During the dinner hour on the oc-
casion of the 50th wedding anniversary
of Mr, and Mrs. B. Hislop, Mr. and
Mrs, Walter Savage of Grey Twp.,
who were guests, were called home on
account of a car accident in which
their son was injured. Latest word
says although the injury was serious,
no bones 'were broken and he is mak-
ing a good recovery,

Richard Gilkinson, and renewed, many
other acquaintances.

By-Law No. 1151, '1945
A 13y-law prohibiting the keeping of
swine within the limits of the muni-
cipality of the Corporation of the Town
of Wingham, pursuant to The Muni-
cipal Act, R. S, -0. 1937, Chapter 266,
Section 405, subsection 6.
WHEREAS several residents and
ratepayers of the Municipality of the
Town of 'Wingham have complained
about the keeping of swine within the
said Mnnicipality;
AND WHERAS upon due inquiry and
investigation it is deemed expedient
to pass a By-law prohibiting the keep-
ing of swine within the said Munici-
pality:
THEREFORE the Council of the
Municipal Corporation of the Town
of Wingham enacts as follows:
1, That no person shall directly or in-
directly keep on his or her premises
or on the premises of any other per-
son within the Municipality of the
Town of Wingham any swine for
any purpose whatsoever nor shall
any person permit any other party
to keep swine on his or her premises
within the said Municipality,
2, THAT any person who contravenes
and is found guilty of, any infrac-
tion of this By-law shall upon con-
viction forfeit and pay a fine in the
discretion of the convicting Magis-
trate but not exceeding the sum of
Fifty ($50.00) Dollars, exclusive of
costs, the skme to be recoverable
under The Summary Convictions'
Act, R, S, 0. 1937, Chapter 136,
the provisions of which shall apply
except that in the case of imprison-
ment same shall not be for a term
exceeding twenty-one days.
This By-law shall come into force on
the 16th day of April, A, D. 1945.
Read three times and passed this 5th
day of March, A. D. 1945.

ability of proceeding with the Minstrel
Show took place and it was finally
agreed that this be postponed until
Fall or next Spring due to the diffi-
culty of arranging suitable practice
times,- President Wilf, referred to the
visit to Hamilton last Wednesday of
Lions and the pleasure of hearing and
meeting our International Officers,
He also announced that word had been
received from Blyth that 'a Lions'
Club would be formed and .a Com-
mittee would -proceed to Blyth shortly
to assist in the organization of the
new Club,
A -committee was set up for the Auc-
tion Sale which be held in May..
Plans will be laid. for this. shortly,
President Wilf, announced that Mr,
Rixton Rafter, editor of the Arthur
Enterprise News, would be guest
speaker. Mr. Rafter is blind and is
noted as a very clever speaker.- The
