celebrating his ninety-first birthday,
His daughters, Mrs. Thurritt and Mrs.
Chesney, and Mr. and Mrs. Tobako
and daughter of Detroit, and Mr. Will
Haggitt, and Mr. and Mrs. John Hag-
gitt and daughter Dorothy, were also
present, and all spent the week-end

months at the harvest work at Lloyd-
minster, Alta.
BELGRAVE
United Church Groups Met
The United Church Women's Mis-
sionary Society and Women's Associ-
ation held their November meeting in
the basement of the Church, with a
splendid attendance. In the 'absence of
the Missionary President, Mrs. J.
Michie, the vice-president, Mrs. G. H.
Dunbar, was in charge of the opening
exercises and the business.
The minutes were read and treasur-
er's report gi-Ven. Visits to the sick
were reported arid the roll call re-
sponded to with a verse of scripture
beginning with the first letter of the
month.
A birthday offering was
aid of the "Gift Fund,"
.A nominating committee composed
of Mrs. R. Chamney, Mrs.' A. Vincent
and Mrs. H. 'Wheeler, was appointed.
The .worship service based on the
theme "Consecration to the Kingdom
for their sakes", was conducted by
Mrs. R. Chamney. Prayers were of-
with Mr. and Mrs. Ringlet.,
Mrs. 3ert Eynon and ..scirt
spent the week-end with his Mother,
Mrs, David Kennedy, and Mr. and
Mrs, Duncan Kennedy, Wingham also
visited there.
Mr, Angus Mowbray enlisted last
week at London, He spent Tuesday
at his home here, and will commence
his basic training at Chatham soon,
Mrs. Hunt, who has been visiting
her sister, Mrs. Robert Ross. returned,
to her ,home at Neville, Sask., on Mon-
-day.
LAC. Malcolm Ross of Centralia,
spent the wek-end with .his parents,
Mr. and Mrs. Malcolm Ross,
Farm Forum, met at the home of Mr,
and Mrs, Cecil Falconer on Monday
evening, and all agreed that many
acres in this district should never have
been farmed, and that farms were less
productive as more fertilizers had to
be used than in bygone years, and
that it was a result of insufficent in-
come and also because of lack of
knowledge of good soil management.
Last week the discussion hinged on the
vacant farms in each community, and
East Wawanosh was quoted over the
Toronto broadcast as saying one block
of 1200 acres now has only ,four
homes, Farm Forum was also held
at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Frank
Thompson on Monday evening.
Flt,-Lt, Richard Irwin, who spent
six months in B.C., and who is -now,
taking a' course at Trenton, spent the
week-end with his parents; also Miss
June Irwin of Toronto, Miss Gwendo-
lyn Irwin of London, and Miss Audrey
Irwin of Wingham, also Mrs. Ed. Ir-
win and family of Goderich spent Sun-
day with Mr, and Mrs. Herson Irwin.
FO. Alec Nethery, who was missing
in Belgium for four months this year,
and who arrived home a week ago,
is now visiting with his parents at
Hamilton.
Mrs, G. M. Shiell returned home
from Wingham Hospital last week.
Mr. Clarence McClenaghan attended
the Y.P.U. Rally ' at Egmondville
United Church on Friday evening and
left on Saturday for London, where
he will attend the special services with
Rev. E. Stanley Jones, returned Mis-
sionary from India, speaking,
Mr. and Mrs. Jas. St. Marie receiv-
ed word last week that their son, Tpr.
Raymond St. Marie, who had been in
Holland, for some time,, had been
wounded. No further word was sent,
and their many friends in this commun-
ity join in hoping that he will make
a speedy recovery.
The ladies of the Women's Institute
served hotdogs,. pie and tea at Mr.
Aldin Purdon's sale on Wednesday
last and realized a net income of 815
with which the ladies intend to pur-
chase new draw curtains for the stage
of the hall.
Master Fred Robison spent the
week-end with friends in Teeswater,
and Mr, and Mrs. John McGee visited
on Sunday at the home of her niece,
Mrs. Gordon Dickison, of Teeswater.
Mr. and Mrs.' Jos. Thompson of
Courtland, are spending a few clays
this week with her father, Mr. Thos.
Robinson and other East Wawanosh
and Morris relatives.
Miss Ada Dow, who has been sup-
plying in a school on the 9th of Ash-
field for the past seven weeks, spent
the week-end with her mother, Mrs.
W, Dow.
Mrs. George McClenaghan, Mrs,
Albert Coultes and Miss Marie Mc-
Crostie, motored to Guelph on Satur-
day and spent the, day' with the formers
daughter, Miss Mildred IvIcClenaghan,
nurse-in-training, at the General hos-
pital there.
Miss Helen Thompson, who has
taken a position in the operating room
at Victoria Hospital, London, is spend-
ing this week with her parents, Mr.
and Mrs...Frank ThompSon of East
Wawanosh.
Miss Gladys McBurney of Wingham
Hospital, spent the week-end with her
parents, Mr, and Mrs. Stewart Mc-
Burney.
Mr, Aldin Purdon purchased a new
Plymouth car in Goderich on Satur-
day,
Mr, and Mrs. W. R, Vanier enter-
tained their relatives on Friday even-
ing, in -honour of the newlyweds, Mr.
and Mrs. Clifford Farrier, who left for
their home in Kincardine. ori Saturday.
Mr. and Mrs. J. G. Gillespie received
word that their son, Pte. Jack Gilles-
pie, D.M,, is now stationed at De:bort,
N. S..

A chapter from the study book,
"West of the Date Line" and dealing
with the church in Malaya and the
Dutch East Indies, was taken by Mrs.
A. Vincent.
The Women's Association meeting
followed immediately with Mrs. S.
Procter in the chair, Mrs. G. H. Dun-
lop acted as secretary in the absence
of Mrs. C, Piocter and read the min-
utes of the last. regular meeting, also
of a special meeting held to make ar-
rangements for a fowl supper.
Letters of thanks were read from
Private Roy MacSween of Barriefield
and Jack McKenzie of Petawawa, for
boxes sent from the church. -
Final arrangements were made for
a fowl supper 'to be held on November
8th.
The- roll call was responded to and
collection taken.
- Guild Had Interesting Meeting
Miss Eliza Procter was hostess to
to the Ladies' Guild of Trinity Angli-
can Church for their regular meeting
Thursday afternoon, November 2nd,
when there was a splendid attendance.
Mrs. William Brydges was in charge
of the program and read the scripture
'lesson.. The rector, Rev. P. H. Street-
er, led in prayer,
The roll call was responded to •by
naming "One way to improve a meet-
ing".
An address on the March of Time,,
was given by Mrs, C. H, Wade. Mrs.
Cooper Nethery gave a reading. The
president, Mrs. Wade, took the chair
for the business session when plans
were made for sending boxes to boys
and girls of the church serving. in
Canada.
Minutes and treasurer's report were
read and birthday money received.
A sale and tea will be held at the
next meeting which will be at the home
of Mrs. David Armstrong.
The meeting closed with prayer
after which lunch was served by the
hostess.
The east half of the roof of the
United, Church has been re-shingled
and the exterior of the church is being
painted:

A.Y.P.A. Elects Officers
The annual meeting of the A.Y.P.A,
was held on Friday, November 3rd
at the home of Mr. and Mrs, Wm. Van-
Camp. The meeting opened with a
hymn, The election of officers took
place; president, Ruth Bradburn; vice-
president, Jack VanCanip; secretary,
Lorna Dunbar; Treasurer, Norma
Brydges; pianist, Nora Vats Camp.
Ruth Higgins and Ferne Nethery are
o prepare .the program for the next
tneeting, and Mr. Streeter the log
book, The next meeting is to, be held
at the home of Miss Nora VaitCatnp.
The meeting closed with a hyntri and
Mi. Streeter pronounced the benedic-
tion. Lunch was served by the host-
ess,

London last week, as' a delegate from
the Belgrave branch.

The regular meeting of the 6th line
Farm FOrtim was held on Monday
evening at the home of Orville Taylor.
Mrs. Orton 'Grain was in charge.
After the usual broadcast and discus-
sion two contests were conducted by
Bruce Scott. The next meeting will
be held at the home of George Wight-
man, with Hugh Blair as convenor and
Telford Cook as recreational leader.

Mr. Edgar Dane and Mr. Mac New-
ton, visited for a few days over the
week-end with friends in Toronto.
The community was saddened once
again by the death of Mr. Allan Fra-
nck, who passed away in the Wing-
ham Hospital last Saturday after a
brief illness. The sorrowing friends
have the sympathy of the community
at large.
Mr. Edwin 'Palmer visited friends at
Lukcnow last Sunday. -
