Mr. and Mrs. Oliver Kirk and baby

D. of the R.C.A.F. at Hagersville,
spent a few days last week with her
parents, Mr. and Mrs. Ben McClen-
aghan.
Mr. and Mrs. Fred Clarke of Luck-
now, spentk, the week-end with her
father, Mr. Robt Carrick.
Flt.-Lt. Mac Elliott, with his moth-
er, Mrs. Leroy Elliott and aunt, Mrs.
Melvin Rome, of Teeswater, visited on
Wednesday last' at the home of his
cousin, Mrs. Harold Walker of EaSt
Wawanosh. Mac is home on furlough
after three and a half years in England
with the R.C.A.F. He had made over
thirty missions over Germany and was
one of the crew of the first bomber
to drop two ton block-busters on Ber-
lin. Mac is now anxious to get back
on the job again.
Mrs. A: Emerson and Mr. and Mrs.
Victor Emerson of Langside, spent
Sunday with Mr. and Mrs: Albert Mc-
Quillan.
A pleasant evening was spent by the
East Wawanosh council and the Fed-
eration, officials :and their wives on
Thursday evening last at the Institute
Hall ,when the ladies of, tlfe Institute
provided a chicken dinner. After the
toast, The King, different' officials
were called upon by the president, Mr.
Norman Radford, to give short talks,
while Mr. Albert Walsh led in the
community singing. Afterwards, all
enjoyed euchre until closing time.

Mr. Lewis Whitfield has purchas-
ed from John C. Heffron, the store
building on the south-east corner of
Queen and Dinsley streets. He will
engage in the plumbing business.
Mr. Elmer Pollard has purchased
front the James Heffron Estate, the
dwelling which has been occupied by
him for some time.

spent the week-end with her. parents,

The anniversary services of Roe's
Church will be conducted on Sunday,
October 22nd by the Rev, J. W. John-
ston of Bluevale United Church,
Mr. and Mrs. Andy Jacklin have
moved to London where they intend
residing.

ing the afternoon 12 ditty bags were
filled, and a tea served by four ladies,

having 'attended the funeral of Mr.

Invitation Extended To Short Course
The Women's Institute are sponsor-
ing a short course, "The Time Saving
Kitchen" on the afternoons of Octo-
ber 23, 24, 25. This will be held in
the Orange Hall at 2 p.m. Miss
Slicter will conduct the course andd,
slides will be used. The Women of
the community are invited to attend
this course which promises to be both
helpful and interesting,
Institute Packed Overseas Boxes '
The October meeting of the Wo-
men's Institute was held at Mrs.
Burns Stewart's home with a good at-
tendance. The afternoon was spent in
packing oevrseas boxes, fifteen of
which were packed, nineteen having
been packed the week before at Mrs.
W. C. King's home, making a total of
thirty-four Christmas boxes for our
boys overseas.,
The Institute Was asked by mem-
bers of Salvation Army to assist in
their Home Frant Appeal to which
they expressed their willingness. .
A short business meeting was held
after which lunch was served by Mrs,
A. 'Galbraith and Mrs. M. Bell assist
ed by the hostess.
Church Celebrated 83rd Anniversary
On Sunday, October 15th, the -or-
vie United- Church celebrated its 83rd
anniversary with special services at
11 a.m. and 7.30 p.m, The Rev.. G.
G. Burton, M.A., B.D„,:orClinton, was
the guest speaker at both services. In
the morning the text was taken froni
the 36th chapter of Jeremiah. The
Wroxeter' Quintette sang "Go. Gather
Them In" and the Gorrie choir "Hail
the Glad Creation" and "I was glad".
In the evening Mr. Burton chose his
text from St. Luke, chapter 14, verse
18. "Come for all things are now
ready." The Wroxeter Quintette sang
"The Wayside Cross" and 'Nearer
My God to Thee" and the Gorrie chdir
"Neath the Banner of the King." The
church was filled to capacity 'at both
services.
. C. G. t T. Meeting
The regular meeting of the C.G.I.T.
was held on Friday evening, October
13th, at the home of Dorothy Earl.
The meeting was in charge of Helen
Irwin and Helen Strong- with the
theme "Who Dare to Dream." The
meeting opened with quiet music by
Eleanor Carson. Helen Irwin read a
poem entitled "Who Dare to Dream",
followed by the scripture lesson from
Romans 13: 15 to 24 read by Helen
Strong, The scripture discussion was
led b yeelH nIrwin and a musical
solo by 'Greta Hyndman followed. The
worship service closed with prayer by
Helen Irwin and a hymn. The roll
call was responded to by • naming a
superstition. The members were
pleased to have with them Miss Jean
Sparling who introduced a handwork
project. Marlene 13arton,IMatine Fat-
tish supplied musical numbers while
lunch was being prepared. A vote of
thanks was tendered the hatess and
the meeting closed with Purpose and
Taps.

Mr. and Mrs, Robt. Rarrison receiv-
ed word on Saturday that their son,
Cpl. Earl Harrison has been wounded
in action in Belgium. It is hoped that
word will be received soon to say that
the nature of the wound is not seiiottS.
