Dr. W. '. Johnston o ucknow,
was 'the guest speaker at last week's
nursing class. His subject was "Em-
ergencies" and he also gave a demon-
stration on bandaging. Practice work
in bed making was done under the
supervision of Mrs. James Wilson, and
in bathing the baby with Mrs. T. F.
Wilson in charge, while Mrs. Ward,
and Mrs. Stuart had charge of other
Work. Next week the meeting will
be held on Friday night with Dr.
Little of Lucknow as lecturer.

The marriage of Jean Alberta Thom,
Mothercraft nurse, formerly of. Toron-
to, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Edward
Thom, Lucknow, to Mr. Allan. James
Martin of Pictou, Nova Scotia, son of
the late Mr. and Mrs. R. J, Martin,
Sydney, Cape Breton, took place on
August 12 in St. James' Anglican
Church, Pictou, Nova Scotia, Rev. R.
Bent, naval 'padre, officiating. The
bride, looked lovely in a powder blue
wool street length dress with black
accessories and a corsage of sweet-
heart roses and lily of the valley. The
matron of honor, Mrs. R. Bent, wore
a pink Wool jersey dress trimmed with
blue, with Corsage of Briarcliffe roses
and fern. The bridegroom was attend-
ed by Lieut, Jack Merrifield, R,C.N.V,
R., of London, After the ceremony
the bride and bridegroom left for a
hOneymoon in Printe Edward Island.
They will also visit in Peterborough
and Lueknow and will reside in To-
ronto,

sence of the pastor on his holidays.

Vincent. Next Sunday, the young

The regular monthly meeting of the
Women's Institute was held on Tues-
day last in the hall here, with the presi-
dent, Mrs. Cecil Falconer in the
chair. After the openitig exercises
and the business period, the following
program was presented: Piano solo,
Mrs. , Nelson Pickell; duet, Leona
Pickell and Helen Walters; Mrs.-
Grain gave a 'splendid paper on the
motto, "The farmei is God's partner
hi giving to the world the food it
needs", and Mrs. George McGlenaghan
gave a very interesting paper on
"Home Beautification". Arrangements
were made for the Grandmothers
meeting to be held in September. A
letter was read from Pte. Nat Thomp-
son from England, telling of his ap-
preciation of the can of cookies that
the ladies had sent him recently.
The Red`Cross Society held a quilt-
ing at • the., home of Mrs. Malcolm
Ross on Tuesday.
An interesting gathering was • held
at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Millan
Moore 'on 'Sunday afternoon, when
they had their little daughter, Muriel
Catharine baptized by her grandfather,
Rev. W. J. Watt. Among those present
were, Mr. Harry McClenaghan and
Billie and, Edith of Belgrave; Sergt.
Harold Sparling and Mrs. Sparling,
and Douglas and Marie, of Wingham;
FO. Bob Watt and Mrs. Watt, of
Port Dover. Sergt. Harold Sparling
and. Douglas left on Sunday for To-
ronto, where Douglas\ will spend the
week with his grandmother, Mrs. Ed.

Mr. and Mrs. Roy McInnis and
children Of Toronto, were in this com-
munity over the week-end, when he
and his brother, Leonard, left to at-
tend the funeral of his brother Mal-
colm, who was .drowned in the De-
troit river last week. He left to mourn
him, his wife and two small children.
