Plans have been prepared, and it is expected that the building will be commenced this fall. • WHY DOES WINGHAM NEED A NEW HOSPITAL BUILDINt NOW? The present facilities are overtaxed, sometimes by as much as fifty per cent. In addition, part of the present building -has been condemned by Government Inspectors and must be abandoned, so far as housing patients is concerned, as soon as possible. Generous donors have provided\new equipment, but there is no place to house it. It is expected that the need for hospitalization in this area will increase rather than decrease. WHAT ADDITIONAL SERVICES WILL WE RECEIVE? WHO IS GOING TO PAY FOR IT? The County of Huron has donated $25,000. The Citizens of the Town of Wingham will be asked, on August 21st next, to approve a by-law allowing the Town to donate $15,000. Donations of equipment from the Currie estate, generous appropriations from those adjacent municipalities which have already been asked, and other sourc- es, already account for between ten and fifteen thousand dollars more. The balance will be raised by public and private subscription. When the extension is completed, the accommodation will be approximately doubled, but this is only part of the story. Improved operating room facilities will be available. Improved, and more hygienic, facilities will be available for obstetrical cases. The best X-ray equipment that can be secured for a Hospital of this type has already been donated. It is expected that this equipment will save many trips to the Cities for our citizens. Perhaps most important is that' patients will practically all be housed in a MODERN FIREPROOF building, in a degree of comfort not attainable in, the present building: DO WE NEED THE PRESENT BUILDING TOO? The present building will be used for X-ray, major and minor surgery, obstet- rics, nurses' quarters and various administrative functions. It will all be use- ' fully employed. WILL IT PAY TO SPEND ALL THIS MONEY? Once the captial is provided the combined building can be operated for surpris- ingly little in addition to the present costs. The Board have made careful esti- mates and with the same number of patients that we have had for the past three years, the extra cost will be comparitively slight. It is expected; however, that the new Hospital will have such a wider field of usefulness to the community that the demand for service, and the revenue, will be correspondingly increased. WHO IS BEHIND ALL THIS? • .• The Directorate is entirely composed of citizens of this community, who have given freely of their time and ability, and have managed this Hospital most ably and satisfactorily in the past. The 1944 Board consists of: R. H. Lloyd, Chairman; Walter VanWyck, Vice-chairman; Mayor Fred L. Davidson, W. W. Armstrong, Capt. W. J. Adams, Dr. W. A. Crawford, H. C. MacLean, Wm. G. Hamilton, A. J. Walker. WHAT IS THIS GOING TO COST? The total cost of the new building complete, alterations to the present building, new surgical equipment, most of which has already been donated, new kitchen and laundry equipment, additional furniture and furnishings (using all present equipment as far as possible) has been carefully estimated at seventy to seventy- five thousand dollars. WHAT DO WE DO NOW? First, see that you and your friends poll an overwhelming vote in favor of the by-law, because without this favorable vote the whole project may be lost. Then, be prepared to give as generously as you can when you are approached for a subscription. Yoiir health, and even life itself may at any time depend on proper hospitalization. Our Citizens deserve it. Our endorsement of this project is due entirely to our desire to do 'everything possible to make this a better town in which to live. 1,1 This advertisement is sponsored by Western Foundry Co. Ltd.
