Bieman - MacKay
A wedding of interest to residents
of East Wawanosh, was solemnized at
Knox Presbyterian Church, Walker-
ton on Wednesday, June 7th, at 2 p.m.,
when Rev. Dr. Marks of Hanover,
united in marriage Miss Catharine
MacKay, daughter of Mr. and Mrs.
Harry MacKay of Walkerton, and Mr.
Levi Bieman of the 9th Concession of
East Wawanosh, son of Mr. and Mrs.
Win. Bieman of Owen Sound. Miss
Ethel MacKay was her sister's brides-
maid and, Mr. George Inglis of Walk-
erton, was best man, while little Miss
Margaret Long, niece of the bride,
was floWer girl. The wedding lunch-
eon was served at Pleasure Valley to
about fifty guests. After the honey-
moon spent at Owen Sound and other
Northern points, the happy couple will
make their home on the 9th. Mr. and
Mrs. Albert Bieman and baby Roger
attended the wedding. N.„

30 Western Ontario Men Honoured
Thirty district men, 12 of them Lon-
doners, were included in the King's
birthday list of honors, announced in
Ottawa. A total of 409 Canadians, all
of them members of the armed forces
or auxiliary services, were honoured.
Among those honoured was Brig. J.
MacDonald, D.S.0„ M.C,, 54, officer
commanding M.D. 1; also Sqdn. Ldr,
Robert M. Aldwinckle, of Varna, who
was awarded the D.F.C.
Fighting Flares on Polish Front
London, — A spurt of fighting
northwest of Tarnopol in old Poland
was announced in the broadcast sup-
plement to the Russian communique.

field, is spending a two weeks furlough
with her parents, Mr, and Mrs. J. H.
Phillips.
The Most Rev. Archbishop Seager,
will make a visit to Trinity Church
on Friday, June 16th, at 8 p.m., when
a class of candidates will be confirm-
ed.
Rev. A. W. Sinclair conducted the
anniversary services at Whitechurch,
on Sunday. Rev. J. H. Ward of St.
Helens had charge of the services in
the United Church.
Mrs. Charles Liddle is visiting
friends in Ripley this week.
Miis Margaret McClelland, who has
been seriously ill, is not improving as
her .many friends had IhOped for.
A dance sponsored by the ladies of
S S No. 10, East Wawanosh, will be,
held on Tuesday evening, in Memorial
Hall. The lucky ticket will be drawn
on the 'quilt.
At the last meeting of the Municipal
Council, Mr. Wm, Thuell was appoint-
ed Engineer of the Corporation' of
Myth Mr. Garfield Doherty having
resigned.

Presbytezian Church anniversary.
We are- sorry to hear Mr. Richard
Johnston is not very well at present
and hope he will be better soon.
Mrs. Melville Mathers and Mr. and
Mrs. Willi Peacock attended the fun-
eral of Miss- Lillian Vogan on Friday
near Belmore.

one night last week with, Mr. and

Mr. and Mrs. Kenneth Bennett, at-
tended the funeral last Sunday of the
former's cousin, Mr. Richard Jackson,
who resided north of Gorrie. The
sorrowing friends have the sympathy
of the community. •
Joyce, the young daughter of Mr.
and Mrs. Fraser Haugh, was operated
on for tonsilitis in the Listowel Hos-
pital last Saturday. We are glad to
say it was successful and we hope to
see her able to come home soon again.

a few days recently with friends in To-
onto.
Mrs. Wm. Weir spent a few days
over Sunday with Mr. and Mrs. Geo.
Dane, who reside north of Gorrie.
The Ladies' Aid and Red Cross held
a joint meeting in the church on Tues-
day afternoon of last week, They did
some quilting. Lunch was served by
Mrs. Melvin Willits and Mrs. Ken-
neth Bennett.

Held Anniversary' Services

'held at Knox Presbyterian Church
conducted by Rev, K. Hunter Palmer,
D,D., of Palmerston., At the morning
service he spoke on the Westminister
Confession of Faith and the Shorter
Catechism and the part 'played' by
prayer in the composition 'of 'both. In
the evening he preached a. sermon ap-
propriate to the time of war crisis
taking 'his text from Daniel's vision of
the coming of the beasts, representing
the rule -of force and his vision of the
coming of the Son of Man, represent-
ing brotherhood. He urged the ,co-
operation of all hi support of our
heroes overseas and in preparation for'
the new order of peade. Special
musk was rendered by the choir as-
sisted by= Mrs, James Cleghorn of
Winghant and a male quartette cant-
poSed of Messrs C Johnston, J. C,
Higgins', Verne • Huffer and Allan

Quilt For Junior Red Cross
Mrs. Stanley Darling has made a
quilt for the Junior Red Cross at Blue-
vale school and gave a tea to the ladies
who quilted at her home. The Juniors
are selling tickets on the quilt to raise
funds for the Red Cross.
