Ross, Levay; Mrs. Thos. Moore, Del-
ena, both of Xinloss; Mrs. Jas. Mof-
fatt, Eat; of Rivereourse, Alta., who
spent; a summer recently here with
her mother; Mrs, Jack Henderson,
Edith, 'of LtAcknow; Mrs, Brayford,
Jean, of Toronto; Mrs. Will Shaw,
Jessie, of Toronto; Mrs Clarence Rus-
sell, Flossie, of "Wattbaushene; Mrs,
Hugh Anderson, Kenmore, Mil-
lie; and Duncan MacGregor of Tees-
water, and Roy MacGregor of Corn-
wall. She also leaves 27 grandchildren
anti 6 great grandchildren.
One of her sons, Sgt. Lloyd Hender-
son called the Hospital last week from
Skiduke, New Brunswick, where be is
stationed, She and liar husband mov-
ed to the village over twenty-five years
ago. She was a member of the United
Church, having been a member of the
Presbyterian Church, and was a life
member of the W,M.S. She was a
very kindly person and beloved and
respected by all who knew her, and
she knew many during her long life
of eighty-four years.
Her funeral was held on Wednes-
day from her home in the village, to
Teeswater cemetery, with Rev. J. A,
Ward of the United Church in charge
of the services at house and grave.
The sympathy of the community is
extended to the bereaved families.
WEDDINGS
Cowley - Stewart
The marriage of Miss Ethel Stewart,
daughter of Mr. and Mrs. James
Stewart, of Pembroke, to L/13dr, Ron-
ald Cowley,, a former member of the
staff of the Wingham. Branch of the
Canadian Bank of Commerce, is being
held at Pembroke, to day, Wednes-
day, March 1st, Prior to his enlist-
ment Mr. Cowley was with the Bank
at Hamilton. Mr,Cowley is a nephew
of Mrs. Thos. Fells.

Effective to-day (Wednesday) meat
rationing has been suspended until
further notice. Meatless Tuesdays
have also been dropped, Lack of
shipping space to the United Kingdom
makes possible this temporary lifting
of meat rationing.

Graham, Geo, Dane, Herbert Neil,
John Dinsmore, Robert Ferguson,
George Foster. The flower bearers
were his three grandsons, Whitney
Dane and Ronald Miles, Toronto,
Robert Wad; Sarnia, and Clarence
Wade, a nephew, Interment was made
in Gorrie Cemetery.
Day of Prayer Observed
The World Day of Prayer held on
Friday in the Presbyterian.. Church
was well attended. Mrs. J. G. Mun-
dell and Mrs. S. Robinson taking the
leader's parts, Mrs. Everett Spalding
gave the Devotional address, based on
the theme "anti the Lord wondered
that there was no intercessor." Mrs.
J. K. Nobes sang sweetly, "Saviour,
hear us we Pray". Others taking part
were Mrs. W. C, King and Mrs. NV.
J. Gallaher.

Day of Prayer Observed
The ladies of Brick United Church
and Calvin Presbyterian Church ob-
served the World Day of Prayer Serv-
ice at the home of Mrs. Leslie Wight-
man. Conducting the service were
Mrs. Gordon McBurney, Mrs. W.
Dow, Mrs. Leisk McGee and Mrs, F,
Thompson.
Mrs. A. M. Perdue and Mrs. Robt.
Coultes led in prayer.
Mrs. Norman Coultes acted as ac-
companist throughout the meeting,
An address on "Jesus Attitude to
Sinners" was given by Mrs. Leslie
Wightman,
Sunday School Seals Awarded
The Brick United Sunday School
awarded seals for attendance during
1943. At the close of the regular
Sunday School service, the. superin-
tendent, Gilbert Beecroft, made the
presentation as follows: 2nd year,
red seal, Ivan Dow; 2rd year, blue
seal, Barbara Irwin and Joan Wight-
man; 6th year, purple seal, Audrey
Irwin, Donald Dow; 6th year,, silver
seal, E'Velyn Leaver, Nelson Dow and
Elinore Wightman; 7th year, gold seal,
Jean Leaver.
Special honour seals were awarded
to three pupils who had previously
completed their certifcates, they were,
Ada and Eva Dow and Gladys Mc-
Burney.

Mr. and Mrs. D, W. Dane, Mr. and
Mrs. Arthur Miles, Toronto, spent last
week with their mother, Mrs. Isaac
Wade, and who returned with them to
the city on Sunday.
Mr. and Mrs, Robert Wade of
Sarnia, spent the week-end with his
parents, Mr. and Mrs. Norman Wade,
Mr. and Mrs. Alex Marshall and
son Jim, Stratford, were recent visitors
with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. W,
Marshall,
Mrs. R. F. Edgar is spending a few •
weeks with her daughter, Mrs. Wil-
liam Wright and ,Mr. Wright in
Wroxeter.
We are pleased to report Mrs. j, R.
Hueston is home after spending the
past five weeks in Wingham Hospital
with a broken ankle.
Pte. 13111 Edwards, London, spent
the week-end with his parents, Mr. and
Mrs. James Edwards.
We regret to report Mrs. William
Whitfield who has for the past several
weeks been confined to her bed, is not
as well as her many friends would like
to see, having suffered another stroke
on Wednesday last.
Mrs. Robert Graham is also on the
sick list and confined to her bed, We
trust she will make a rapid recovery.
Mrs. Charles Waldon, R.N., of To-
ronto, has returned to her home in To-
ronto, after spending a few days with
her aunt, Mrs. Thos. Brandnock and
at the same time nursing her uncle,
Mr. Bradnock who is feeling fine
again.

James McLeod
The funeral of the late James Mc-
Leod was held from his late residence,
lot 34, concession C,• Howick, on Fri-
day afternoon. The deceased who was
in his 14th year died on the farm on,
which he was born, the son of John
McLeod and Margaret Wright, While
ill health for some months yet not
until some seven or eight weeks ,a.g.8
that he took to his bed. He was a
staunch Liberal and a member of the
Molesworth Presbyterian Church, the
pastor Mr. McCarroll assisted Rev.
Kenneth MacLean of Wingham with
the service. He is survived by his
wife, the former Margaret Littlejohn,
also of Howick, one sister, Mrs. Hugh
Edgar, and two brothers, John, of
Wroxeter, and William of Elora. The
pallbearers were Jas, N. Allen, How-
ard Wylie, John Brown, Wesley
Gans, John Timm and Mr. Spalding.
Friends from Dutton, Listowel, Gorrie,
Fells, who has been. training at Cal-
gary and Moose Jaw, spent a few days
with Mr. and Mrs, T. Fells.
FO. Elgin Coutts of St. Eugene,
Ont., returned to duty after spending
a few days' with his parents, Mr, and
Mrs. R. A. Cants. Miss Norma
Coutts of Western University, London,,
spent the week-end with her parents,
Isaac S. Wade
A life-long highly esteemed Howick
resident, Isaac S. Wade, passed away
at his home in Gorrie, February 22,
aged 88 years.
.H e was the son of William Wade
and Deborah Sotheran Wade, pioneers
of Howick and was born on lot 16,
concession 5, one and one half miles
west of FOrdwith. In 1883 lie was
married to Rosalind Stevenson who
survives him. In 1943 they celebrated
their 60th anniversary
He farmed all his life excepting five
years spent in business in Fordwich,
returning to his farm, lot.10, conces-
sion 12, For a number of years he
was assessor of the township being
the second to hold such office, also
serving several years as truant officer,
In 1918 he retired, residing in Gor.
fie until his death, He was a valued
member of the Church of England in
Gordo and Vordwich. He was a
member of L,O.L. 575 Orange Hill
and later No. 761 Gorrie of which he
was a life member.
Besides his wife, he is survived by
one son, Norman of Howick, and twii
daughters (Jennie), Mrs, A, Miles.
and (Laura), Mrs, D. W. Dane, both
of Toronto, also Three brothers, Win,
E. of Pordwieh; Orlando and Thomas
and one sister (Belinda), Mrs. Melvin
Porterfield, all of Owen Sound.
Funeral service was held on Thurs-
day, rebrnary 24 With a private sere.

Monday, February 28th.
Mrs. Jas. MacGregor Passes
Another of the older residents of
Whitechurch passed away on Monday
morning in Wingham hospital in the
person of Mrs. Jas, MacGregor. Seven
weeks ago, she broke her leg in a
fall on the toad, and had been making
splendid progress towards recovery ,in
the hospital until pneumonia started
about two weeks ago. Her passing
was not unexpected as her family had
been called in two weeks ago, when a
change was noticed in her condition,
Daughter' of 'the late Mr. and. Mrs.
Donald MacMillan of Scotland, she
was born in Belfast, Ireland and came
to this country with her parents, when
two years of age, and they settled at
Lochalsh She was the last surviving
member of that family of two sons and
six daughters, Over sixty years a,--)
she married James MacGregor of Cul-
ross who predeceased her in October
1.026, and to them were Urn two sons
and ..elght, daughters,: Mrs., Malcolm
Miss jemima Garniss to whom he was
married 43 years ago. One daughter,
Mrs. Robert McLean .(Ernestine) of
the Public School teaching staff at
Waubaushene; Walter, at home and
LA,C. Elmer, R.C.A,F, of Centralia;.
two grandsons. Jim and Donald Mc-
Lean and a brother Eli in the Cana-
dian West.
The Funeral was held from his late
residence 'on Tuesday afternoon con-
ducted by Rev. Campbell Tavener,
minister of Ebenezer United Church.
The beautiful floral tributes included
one from Ebenezer Church and one
from the B, B. Club,
Interment took place in Brussels

Lewis G. Thomson
Mr. Aenry T. Thomson of town re-
ceived word that his brother, Lewis
G. Thomson, of Arden, Man,, passed
suddenly away on Friday afternoon,
February 25th, in his 77th year, The
late Mr. Thomson Was born in Me.
Xillop Township 'but Moved to Zetland
with his paretIts, the late Mr. and Mrs,
George Thonison, when seven years of
age. tn, 1SH he went West and has
since lived there, Surviving are his
wife, 4 sons and 4 daughters, Stir.

OBITUARY
J. 3. Sellers
Joseph J. Sellers, a life-long and re-
spected resident of this community,
died at his home on Sunday evening,
Eebruary 27th in his 73rd year.
Mr. Sellers was born in Morris
township, the younger son of the late
Yoe', Sellers and Elizabeth Hodder,
pioneer settlers of the 20.d concession
Of Morris, Ur, Sellers had not enjoy-
ed good health for a few years but
had been around as usual until two
weeks ago when he suffered a heart
attaek.
He was always interested in the
affairs of the community, for many
years he served as setretary.treastrer.
of BrOwittoVvii School, was identified
with Ebenezer United Church and was
a Liberal in Patios.
He Is survived by his wife, formerly
