national leader that government in
Canada must be decentralized to bring
it more directly under scrutiny of the
people. After reviewing C.C.F. polic-
ies he said that "state socialism" can-
not brook political opposition and that
once in power it "always moves swift-.
ly•toward dictatorship." He said Can-
ada needs "rational reforms" and ad-
ded: "If people are prepared to
abandon themselves to the guidance
of whomsoever promises most and de-
mands least, they will sink into moral
lethargy and be exploited by ruthless
masters."
Mr. Bracken suggested four "watch-
words of the future":
1. Decentralization, not centraliz-
ation;
2. Co-operation, not state dictator-
ship;
3. Expanding production, not scarc-
ity;
4. Widening areas of trade, not re-
strictive practices.
"The alternatives," he said, "are
continued chaos, on the one hand, or
regimentation on the other.

scale assault by Dominion infantrymen
across the shallow. muddy stream,

ARE NEILSON'S CHOCOLATE
BARS GOING THESE DAYS?
• We are not surprised that people ask that question when they
go into a store and find no "Neilson's" chocolate bars ... and
here is the reason:--There are so many more people buying
chocolate bars today than ever before, that no sooner are the
popular Neilson's high-quality favourites placed on sale than
they are sold. So, in spite of the fact that Neilson's Chocolate
Bars are being produced in the maximum quantity, in accordance
with wartime restrictions on the use of raw materials, they are
naturally in short supply. We feel sure you will understand this.
Neilson's Quality

U-boat Toll Exceeds Ships
London, - U-boat-hunting Allied
ships and planes probably destroyed
upward of 300 undersea raiders in the
Atlantic from March to November,
seriously crippling the submarine fleet
which has been one of Hitler's main
hopes for checkmating an invasion of
Europe, In November the number of
U-boats sunk exceeded the number of
their victims.
