A Red Cross quilting was held last

Laidlaw.
Mr, Clarence McClenaghan spent
melt-end at Toronto where he attend-
ed a Conference of.. the Y.P.U. of the
United Church,
,Mrs. Hunter of Ashfield and Mrs.
Jas. Laidlaw left last week to \spend
a few days with Mr, and Mrs, Ken-
neth Laidlaw at Fingal and on Sunday
Mr. and Mrs, Sam Coulter and. Mr.
jas, Laidlaw, motored to Fingal and
the ladieS returned home with them.
Quite a number attended the Hal-
lowe'en social in the basement of the
United Church on Friday evening.
Miss Faye McClenaghan and Gordon
Welwood winning the prizes for the
best ghosts and Mrs. Scholtz and Mrs.
Welwood getting the prize for the best
couple. All enjoyed the games during
the recreation period with 'Mr. Car-
man Farrier in• charge. Lunch was
served and a social time enjoyed by
all.

spent Saturday at the home of the
forther's daughter, Mrs. Toynbee
Lamb of Colborne twp.
Mr, John Gaunt, who has been at
Kapuskasing, returned home on Satur-
day and spent the week-end with his
wife and family here, returning to
L'Ondon on Monday. •

installed in his home last week

Borden last week to attend Trade
School in London for the next three
months. He will take a special course

The Institute families of this com-
munity gathered on Monday evening
in the Hall to entertain the side which
won the contest which ran during the
summer months. Progressive euchre
was played with Mrs. J. D. Beecroft
and Mr.' Earle Caslick winning the.
prizes for high points, and Mrs. Cas-
lick and Mr. Jas. 'McInnis winning
for low points. After a short pro-
gramme in charge of Mrs. Cecil Fal-
coner, the president, Mrs. Morrison,.
called Mrs. jack McIntyre to the
front, and after a short address, stres-
sing the appreciation of the Institute
for the services of a splendid secre-
tary and worker in the community life
of the village, presented her. with a
very pretty cup and saucer, as a re-
membrance of the ladies. Mrs. Mc-
Intyre in fitting words thanked the
ladies for their thoughtful remem-
brance.. Lunch was served and all
enjoyed dancing for a time to music
supplied by Mr. McCormack.

turned on Monday after spending two
months with friends and relatives in.

through an operation in Toronto Gen-
eral Hospital two weeks ago, was able
to leave the hospital this Wednesday
and be with her daughter,: Miss Win-
nifred Farrier,
Mr, and Mrs, Clarence Cox spent
Sunday with his father, Mr, Sam Cox,
who has been in Goderieh Hospital
for the past few weeks, suffering from
a broken leg,

BELGRAVE
Plan Christmas Tree
Officers and members of the United
Church Sunday School met at the
home of Mr. and Mrs, James Michie
and made preliminary plans for the
annual ,Christmas Tree and Concert,
which will be held on December 23rd.
Committees were appointed to prepare
a miscellaneous program of choruses,
dialogues, musical numbers and reci-
tations,
Red Cross Shipment
The Belgrave Red- Cross Society
packed a bale of second-hand clothing
and forwarded to Navy League head-
quarters. A shipment of 50 bed pads
was made to Red Cross headquarters
in Toronto.
Parcels Sent To Soldiers
The Belgrave Red Cross Society
held their monthly business meeting
in the work rooms Friday afternoon,
conducted by the president, C. R.
Coultes. In the absence of the secre-
tary, Rev. G. H. Dunlop, Mrs. John
Anderson acted ,as secretary and read
the minutes.
The meeting opened with a hymn
and repeating the daily prayer. The
treasurer's report was read by the
president. Christmas boxes have been
sent' 21 local boys overseas under the
direction of Mrs. Gordon Walsh and
her committee and this committee has
now been added to the Canadian Box
Committee of which Mrs. Harry
Campbell is the convenor, Each box
contained, powdered chocolate, fruit
cake, cheese,, powdered milk, by. nits,
glazed fruit, egg powder, oxo cubes,
canned soap and canned meat. It
was decided to hold the weekly work
meetings in homes in the village dbr-
ing the winter months in order to
conserve fuel.
Mrs.. C. Logan, Mrs. A. Manning,
and Mrs. N. Keating were appointed'
to secure homes.
The meeting closed with God' Same;
the King.
