Red Cross Notes ,
The executive and finance commit-
tee of the Red Cross met on Friday
evening in the Red Cross rooms. Mrs.
Vern Denny, 1st vice-president, pre-
sided. $200.00 was voted for prisoner-
of-war box funds; $100.00 to the
Blood Donors fund. This in addition
to more than $1100.00 forwarded to
Red Cross headquar-ters from the
local chapter.
Women's Institute
The October meeting of the W. I.
will be herd on Thursday of this week
at 3' p.m. at the home of Mrs. D. S.

Minutes of the last meeting were
read by the secretary, Mrs, R. Procter.
Mrs,' J. McGill gave the treasurer's
report. The roll call was responded
to by naming a Favorite Book. The
business included plans -for a quilting
which will be held at the home of
Miss Eliza Procter. Birthday and
Talent money was donated and month-
ly fee paid.
Mrs. Streeter invited the group to
hold the next meeting at the Rectory
in Blyth when an auction sale of art-
icles donated by the Members, will be
held. At 'the close of the meeting,
Mrs. Rinn served lunch.
Mission Band Met Sunday
The Happy Hearts ;Mission Band of
the United Church met in the school
room of the Church Sunday morning
at 11.00 o'clock. Mrs. Clifford Logan
was 'in charge, and conducted the meet-

The hymn, I am so glad that our
Father in Heaven, was sung after
which Muriel Anderson read the
scripture lesson and Edna Higgins led
in prayer.
Minutes of the last meeting were
read by Florence Cook and adopted.
The roll call, was responded to and
collection taken by George Procter,
Gladys Campbell read the story from
the study book, "we worship together"
followed by the hymn, "I love to hear
the story". A short story was also
given by Audrey Anderson and the
meeting closed with a hymn.
There was a good attendance of
members.
Mrs. Clifford Logan entertained a
few friends one evening last week in
honour of Mrs, Clayton Logan of
Moose Jaw, Sask., who is visiting rel-
atives. Cards were enjoyed after
which 'refreshments were served by
the hostess.
Mrs. McNeil and four children of
Woodstock, have taken up residence
in the house owned by Miss Stella
Nethery of Hudsons Bay Junction,
Sask. Mrs. McNeils husband is in
the armed forces and is stationed at
Stratford.
Mr. and Mrs. William Cole who,
some months ago sold their farm to
Mr. and Mrs. William VanCamp, have
moved into their new home in the vil-
lage which they purchased from Mss.
J. Brydges and which has been oc-
cupied' by Mrs. R. Nicholson,
James McCrea of Toronto, spent
the week-etid with his parents, Mr. and
Mrs. R. McCrea.

here on Sunday. The three little chil-

Miss Mary Waddell of Galt, spent
the week-end at the home of her sis-
ter, Mrs. Will Henry.
Born—on Wednesday, October 6 in
Kinloss, to Mr. and Mrs. Will Henry,

Mr. and Mrs. Bert Thompson and
Mr. and Mrs. Norman Thompson,
spent Tuesday last in LOndon.
Mrs. Bert Thompson received word
qn Thursday last from her sister, Mrs.
John Fleming of Hamilton, N.D., that
her eldest son, James Fleming has
passed away after a short illness. He
was 46 years old and had never mar-
ried. Besides ,his mother, he leaves
a sister and brother. Many Kinloss
residents will remember John Flem-
ing, a former resident of that town-
ship.

spent the week-end at the home of his
parents, Mr. and Mrs. Robert Ross.
Pte. Athol Pardon of Barriefield
Camp, Kingston, and Mrs. Purdon, and

Mrs, Andrew Kirk spent the week-
end at Burmingham, Mich., at the
home of her son son, Mr. Oliver Kirk,
and attended the wedding of her
granddaughter, 'Miss Laurette Pearl
Creighton, only daughter of Mrs,
Creighton of Detroit and the late
Frank Creighton, and Robert E.
Toomey, in the American Armed
Forces, and stationed at Detroit. The
marriage took place in St. Joseph's
Episcopal Church, Detroit, at 8.30

pital. His many friends wish him. a
speedy recovery.

Mrs. Eynon is in Toronto this week
and little Bruce went through his
operation in the Sick Children's Hos-
pital on Tuesday morning.

nosh Federation and the Reeve and
Councillors and their wives.

from her son Bill, telling. of his safe
arrival in Scotland.
Fordwich Resident. Passes
Friends here learned, with regret of
the death on Sunday of a life-long resi-
dent of Fordwich, in the- personof Mr.
George Mapletoft. Deceased was well
known throughout the whole neighbor-
hood having conducted a barber shop
for many years at FardWich. He is
survived by his wife, tile former Jessie
McLaughlin, one Aaughter, Reta (Mrs.
S. Johnston). Funeral Services were
conducted on Tuesday with- interment
in Fordwich Cemetery.
