the work of the Lions Chibs pointing
out that $278,000 was raised in Ont-
ario and Quebec for service work last
year and the various Clubs were do-
ing fine work hi their communities.

Rally Day Service At Ijoited Church
Sunday school
Superintendent W J. Johnston was
leader during the Rally Day exercises
in the United church, Sunday morning,
which took the place of the regular
service. Rev, C. Tavener, the pastor,
gave the Main address on the - theme,
"Giving' Our Best" and the adult choir
rendered an anthem, Prayers were
offered individually and in unison and
passages of scripture were read to-
gether. Stories and poems were read
by Wendell Stamper, Shirley Seilleg,
and Jean McLennan. The teachers
sat with their classes in the centre
pews. The collection' ,goes to the
Board of Christian Education, to pro-
mote Sunday School and Young Peo-
ples' work

The September meeting of the, Wo-
men's Guild of St, James Anglican
church, was held on Tuesday afternoon,
in the church school room. The presi-.
dent, Mrs. F, H. Scherk, presided and
opened with the hymn, "Take My
Life and let it be Consecrated Lord to
Thee." The reading lesson was taken
from Micah 6 chap. verses 1 to 8 and
read by Mrs, Robert McMichael. Mrs.
Scherk gave a short address on the
subject "Guilding a Life" were taken
from the lesson read. Plans made
during the business session to hold a
community Euchre. Invitations to be
sent to friends at Gorrie and Fordwich
as well as the home community, the
date set being Monday, Sept 27th. The

Funeral services were conducted on

United., Church W. M. S.
"Christ for all the World and for
all of Life" was the Theme for the
meeting of the Women's Missionary
Society in the United church this
week. After singing a hymn and re-
peating the Lord's prayer in unison.
The president, Mrs. W, J, Johnston
led the devotional responsive reading
in a service of dedication to the Great
Commission.
Mrs. C. Tavener spoke on the de-
partment of Christian. Stewartship and
Finance from the eighteenth annual
report of the W. H. S. of the United
Church of Canada. She spoke also on
the work of Rev. Walter T. Currie and
Mrs. Currie who were sent in 1886 to
Angola, a Portuguese Colony on the
West Coast of Africa. Mrs. Currie
died shortly after their arrival, her
husband organized a mission field
there. Prayer was offered by Mrs.
George Fell.
United Mission Band
The Mission Band met in the school
room of the United Church on Friday
afternoon, with the president Muriel
Smith in the chair. All joined in re-
peating the Mission Bancl Prayer.
Miss Margaret Curtis told the Mis-
sion Band story and Mrs. C. Tavener
spoke on Thankfulness. There was 13
present.
Women Institute Sponsors Rally
Mrs. Clarence Hayes of Georgetown,
will conduct a series of Officer's Ral-
lies in this district during the first
week of October. The rallies are spon-
sored by the Women's Institute
Branch of the Department of Agricul-
ture, Toronto.
Bluevale and Wroxeter local lnstit-
tutes arc uniting for the Rally to be
held in the Sunday school room of the
United church on Thursday, October
7th., with the forenoon and afternoon
sessions. The forenoon will be devot-
ed to the question of "How to conduct
group discussions and in the afternoon
Mrs. Hayes will speak on "Parliamen-
tary Procedure" and the "Duties of
Officers." The officers and members
of the church organizations are invited
to the afternoon meeting.
Miss Jean Elliott, local leader in the
Junior Girls' Home Making Club with
her class including the Misses Mar-
guerite Henning, Ileane Henning,
Muriel Smith, Mary Powell and June
Shiell attended the Stratford fair on
Wednesday.
Pearson Rolph has returned home
from Victoria Hospital, London, where
lie was a patient for two weeks. Mr.

det Robert Rutherford of Fergus. Mr.
McKenney joined Mrs. McKenney
over the week-end • when they were
guests at the Scheele home,
Flying Officer Don, Cobban, R. C.
A F„ and, Mrs. Cobban spent a few.
days last week with the Tatter's par-
ents, Mr. and Mrs. D Robinson.

hoping to pay its another friendly 'visit
in the near future.
Mrs. Earl Sellers returned home on:

and we are glad to report that she has
greatly improved in health.

harvest home for the corn. Silo filling

Mr. and Mrs. Geo. Thornton intend
moving into Bluevale within the next
few days, their son, Wilson will take
over the homestead on return from,
their honeymoon.
Mr. John Fischer is having the hy-
dro installed in his home along with,
the electrical equipment.
