Bruce M. P. Overseas
Lieut. W. R.' Tomlinson of f Port
Elgin, member of Parliament for
Bruce riding, is now overseas. He
enlisted with an artillery unit from
Bruce which will now do overseas
duty. It is reported that he will again
contest the Liberal party nomination
for the next Federal 'election.
Guild Plan Quilting
Mrs. William Brydges was hostess;
to the Ladies' Guild of Trinity Angli-
can Church on Thursday afternoon,
when the regular meeting was held at
her home. There was a fairly good
attendance. The vice-president, Mrs.
P. H, Streeter, conducted the meeting
and read the scripture lesson, Rev.
P, H. Streeter led in prayer. -
During the business period it was
decided to have a quilting at an early
date. Several bills were ordered'
paid. Birthday money was donated'
and monthly fees paid.
,Miss Ruth Higgins gave a paper on
"Facts about Labour and Work."
Misses Muriel Brydges and Gert-
rude Haticlay sang a duet.
Mrs. Streeter invited the group to
the Rectory at BI3rth for the next
meeting,

which closed with prayer by Mrs.

Mrs. Wallace Conn returned home
from Wingham Hospital on Friday,

and Billie of Cuirass visited there on

Many will be pleased, to know that
Wren Jean Welwood has been station-
ed. for the net few months at Halifax,
and Mr. and Mrs, Welwood recevied
word from Ottawa that Sgt. Norman
Welwood had received a promotion to
Blight Sergt. in 1942, before he was
taken prisoner of war in Germany, and
has also received another promotion,
that of Warrant Officer.
Miss Winnie MeNevin and Mr,
Fred Lott of Wingham, spent the
week-end at the home of Mr. and Mrs.
Walter Lott.
The Red Cross Society here was
forwarded 1 quilt from Mrs. Milian
Moore, 1 from Mrs. tGeo. Fisher's
group, one lining from Mrs, Webb and
14 large quilts and one crib quilt, and
Miss Annie and Mary Laidlaw sent in
six pairs of seamen's sox, and Miss
Catharine Ross donated $2 and Mrs.
Grain's group donated $3 for Hospital
supplies.
Mr. and Mrs. Ned Thompson and
Mr. Fred Cottle of Toronto, and the
latter's mother, Mrs. Isabel Cottle of
Detroit, spent 'the week-end at the
home of their sister, Mrs. Jos. Tiffin
and with other relatives here,
Dr. and Mrs. Hessian and Mr. and
Mrs. Bailiff of Toronto, spent the
week-end at the home of the former's
sister, Mrs. J. B. Morrison; Mrs.
Morrison returned from .Toronto on
Friday after being under the Doctor's
care there. Mrs. Taylor and Eleanor
left on Monday for their home in To-
ronto after spending the past few
weeks with her parents here.

spent their holidays with their grand-
parents, Mr. and Mrs. John Johnston,
returned to their home in Toronto last

of Toronto, spent the Week-end with

held at the hoine of the bride's par-
ents in the afternoon. This commun-
ity extends best wishes to Mel. and
his bride.

spent the week-end at the home of

Moore. Pte. Charlie Moore is at pres-

don, having started there last week,

home in Toronto. Mrs. Mina Ritchie
accompanied them and went on to

Mission Band Start Quilt
The MacKay Mission Band of the
Presbyterian Church held their regu-
lar meeting in the church Saturday
afternoon. The leader, Mrs. Joseph
Dunbar, conducted the meeting open-
ing with a hymn and prayer. Bernice
Anderson read the Scripture lesson.
Marguerite Young acted as secreatry
and read the minutes. The Roll Call
was responded to by "Naming a Fav-
ourite Fruit."
Mrs. Dunbar took charge of the
study period which was based on a
story from the Glad Tidings paper.
The Monthly Offering was, received.
,During a work period a quilt was
started. The meeting closed with a
hymn and prayer.
Sunday Services
Rev. Samuel'Kerr of Brussels, con-
ducted service in 'the Presbyterian
Church Sunday afternoon, and preach-
ed from the text, "Glory to God 'in the
Highest and on Earth Peace to Men
of Good Will." .
The girls choir sang a number,
