SHORT ELECTION CAMPAIGN
The people of Ontario will go to the
peals on Wednesday, August the fourth
and the result will deeide who will
govern the province during the next
four or five years. The campaign will
be a short one and es these are war
days it is just as well that this is the
case, The people can be fully inform-
ed, from now until election day as to
the ideas and issues that the leaders
of the parties advocate. Leaders of
the two major parties are sure to in-
ject plenty of pep into the proceedings,
in fact during the past few weeks
things have been warming up consid-
erably, Mr. John Public is in no mood
to be fooled and will be looking for
a clear cut concise statement that ex-
presses the ideas of the leaders. Many
have been asking how will it go this
time. The answer will be answered
by the citizens of Ontario on August
4th.

EXTRA HELP FOR THE FARM
In many parts of the province there
has been a real effort put forth' to
assist the farmers in the adjacent com-
munities during the harvest, The
Lions Club here are sponsors for this
effort in the Wingham community and
anyone who can assist With this very
important work should leave their
names with the clab officers. With
work piling up more than usual due
to late spring work, it is more import-
ant than ever that the crops be fully
harvested. Increases in farm produc-
tion are of vital necessity and your
help will be of much value. It was
thought that the placing of town and
city girls and boys on farms would
not work out but it has and Ontario
would not be able to harvest not only
her fruit crop, but many other com-
modities if it was not for this assist-
ance. We have been Warned that we
may have to tighten our belts this
winter. We can reduce our belt cir-
cumference now by aid with the har-
vest.

Threw Cash Out Car Window
Something better than the manna
of Biblical times fell from the skies,
as it were, on Walkerton's main aisle,
when pedestrians 'were astounded to
see bills of several denominations of
good Canadian currency being blown
about the street by the prevailing
breeze. After several of the lucky
ones reported their finds it was re-
vealed that the two-year-old son and
heir of pi local household who had been
left in the family chariot, parked at
the curbside, while his mother entered
a local store, had spied his motheee
open purse, on the rear cushions and
spotting the roll of pretty bills let
them drift,. on the breeze out the car
window, Walkerton Herald Times.

Two Children Hit By Car
Two young children of Mrs. Emily
Carter, of the Highway south of
'Exeter narrowly escaped a serious
accident when they were run down by
a motor car, The children were play-
ing beside the road and as a car

Money Can Be Saved By Buying At Home
The business people in every community pay a large percentage of the local taxes;
their stocks and stores tell the citizens and visitors whether the town is a progressive
municipality or is in the doldrums.
The Wingham merchants advertising on this and other pages of this paper, are
doing their utmost during these critical days, to promote the interests of the town by
stocking such goods as are available. They are therefore entitled to your support and by
supporting them you are helping yourself and also the town.
Gasoline and tires are precious at this juncture, so you can save both by doing
your shopping right in Wingham. In many instances prices are controlled, so there is
actually no object in spending money for transportation.
