Edgar were in Guelph last week at-
tending the funeral of the late Mrs.
Muir Anderson,
Mrs, Chas. Xing visited her brother,
Mr. Samuel Willis in London last
week, Mr. Willis is suffering from a
heart attack.
Mrs, Murray Edgar and daughter,
Miss Eleanore, were London visitoee
a couple of days last week.
Mr. and Mrs, J, H. King, Toronto,
spent the week-end with his mother,

Miss Arlene Galbraith has secured
a school on one of the London City
schools.
Miss Alma Nash, R.N„ Toronto, is
holidaying with her mother, Mrs. G.
Nash.
St. Stephens W. A.
At the regular meeting of St.
Stephens W. A. which was held at
Mrs. N. Wade's on June 3, there were
9 members and 4 visitors in attend-
ance. A quilt for the Red Cross was
quilted and patches were made for
another.
Rev, Caldwell attended the meeting
and gave a short talk on "Ascension
Day" which happened to be on the
day of meeting. The Bible reading
was given by Mrs. Armstrong taken
from St, John, chap. 1, verses 1 to 9,
and she also gave a very interesting
reading on. Madame Chiang-Kai-shek,
"How she confesses her faith", saying
that she gives her mother all the credit
for her religion and faith.
The next meeting to be held at the
Rectory on June 24, when the Rector
is planning on entertaining Fordwich
and Weveter also. After the business
period the president, Mrs. Holmes,
closed the meeting with prayers and
a very dainty dunch was served by
the hostess.
Newlyweds Honoured
On Wednesday evening last friends
and relatives met at the Township hall
to honour Mr. and Mrs. Harold Hynd-
man, newlyweds, when they were pre-
sented with a miscellaneous shower
and address which was read by Miss
Doris [Galbraith, and to which Harold
made a fitting reply.
Mr. Reginald Taylor, late of Kitch-
ener, who has signed up with the
merchant marine, is visiting his aunts,
Mrs. Knowlson and Miss Taylor, for
e couple of weeks, '
The members of the C.G.I.T, were
entertained at Fordwioh on ",Monday
night, when two car loads motored
over and enjoyed the evening with the
Fordwich girls.
The United Church Sunday School
Anniversary will be held on June 20,
in the church here, with Rev. Hugh
Wilson, Brussels, as special speaker,
Speciel music is being prepared.
We are sorry to report the illness
of Mrs. William Whitfield, who suf-
fered a stroke on Friday night, She
is confined to her bed but we under-
stand is improving. •
Mrs. Jas. 'Edwards and Mrs. W.
Lynn, were Fordwich visitors on Mon-
day.
The Township Library Board have
secured a number of new books which
are now on the shelves,
Mr. F. C. Taylor is visiting friends
in Toronto.
Mr. R. G. Newton is at present in
Toronto.
Pte. William Edwards of London,
spent the week-end with his parents,
Mr. and Mrs. J. Edwards.
Mr. and Mrs. W, Lynn, Fordwich,
have moved to Gorrie, having leased
the home of Mr. and Mrs, Alex Mar-
shall.
Miss Mae Thompson., Harriston, was

the week-end with Mrs. Martin in

Teacher Resigns
. Mr. Harvey Robertson, who has
been on the staff of the Continuation
School for several years, has resigned
and accepted a 'position of principal
of a six-roomed public and Continu-
ation School at West Lortie. Mr.-and
Mrs. Robertson and little daughter,
also Mr. Robertson Sr„ who resided
with them have been highly. esteemed
citizens and their leaving our village
and community will be deeply regret-
ted. However the best wishes of all
will go with) them to their new home,
We are, glad to know Mr. Knight,
Miss K. Irwin and Miss Mary Mac-
Donald are remaining on the staff for
the coming year.
Mr. and Mrs. George Allen have
again taken up residence in the village,
after spending several months with
their daughter, Mrs. IVI, MacFarlane,
in Toronto,
Junior Red Cross
• The first Junior Red Cross Confer-
ence was held recently in Walkerton
because the branches in Mr. Gaines
Inspectorate had made the largest
contributions of funds during the year,
amounting to $1944.81,

tended including Red Cross members,
delegates, and guests. Miss Bartlett
Of Toronto, director of the Junior Red
Cross was present, also Miss Mustard
of 'Toronto, Field Secretary of Red
Cross and Major Watson of the Sen-
ior Red Cross.
Miss Bartlett in her address con-
gratulated Mr. Game on the success
of the branches itt his inspectorate and
reviei,ved some of time work attotrip-
lished by the Jr. Red 'Cross, $19,900

Major Watson gave a short address
and showed two picture films namely
"There go I Too" and "Ride em Cow-
boy Ride,"
Co-chairmen for the conference
were Raymond .Geisler of the separate
.school, Walkerton and Helot) Sawtell
of Wroxeter public school, who joint-
ly presided over the conference. Music
was provided by pupils from 4 schools
and the various school delegates gave
interesting reports on Health, School
Improvements,.Publicity, 'Sewing and
Xnitting, Games, Comforts, Books for
men of the armed forces, Fund raising
salvage collection. During the inter-
mission an exhibit of work ;was re-
viewed by the audience. Mr, J. N.
Game, school inspector, spoke briefly.
The meeting closed with the singing
of the National Anthem.
Farm Service Camps
There are now in prospect 26 farm
service camps under the supervision of
the Nutrition Dept. of Red Cross,
The Government has asked the help
of Red Cross in staffing and super-
vising the camps where high school
boys and girls will live while working
this summer and Red Cross is appeal-
ing to women to take. positions as
cooks, supervisors and assistants.
Branches could help by finding suit-
able people for the work.

port 2,087,232 finished articles receiv-
ed in the past four months. Shipped

A special appeal made to branches
of Red Cross early in the year asked
for donations oj toilet articles for
women hm uniform oversees, and. for
sewing articles for women not in
form, This appeal brought a splendid
response and very .charming and color-
ful bags have 'been, forwarded contain-
ing these necessary articles,
Women's Institute
Mrs, M. Sellers opened bee' home
on Friday last for the June meeting
of the Women's Institute, The presi-
dent presided and opened the meet-
ing with the singing of the Ode and
repeating the Lord's Prayer in unison.
Mrs, Denny read the Motto; "Come
into the Garden friend for we adore
it and wish to share its treasurers with
thee", Mrs. D, W. Rae had charge of
Current Events bringing several in-
teresting items to time attention of the
members, Mrs. H. Durst gave an
amusing reading in dialect. Mrs. V.
Denny had charge of the topic, Re-
forestation, and gave facts and figures
on the sulject as well as the govern-
ments plang oh replanting, and closing
with a choice bit of verse, The Roll
Call, What I enjoyed most' on last
years' programme, brought an inter-
esting response which proved the
whole years' programme was enjoy-
ed. Mrs. McKenney, who had on
Wednesday attended the open meeting
Hof the •Federated Women's Institutes
of Canada in, Toronto, gave a fine
word picture and splendid report.
There was an exchange of roots and.
plants.
At time close tea was served, Mrs.
Allen Munroe and Mrs. James Sang-
ster assisting time hostess.
Catered .To Lions Club
The Women's Guild served to the
members of the Organization meeting
of Lions Club at their church school
room on Friday night.' 35 Lion mem-
bers from Wingham were present. A
hearty , vote of appreciation was ex-
tended to the Guild members.

Former Wroxeter Boy Dies
The community was saddened on
Saturday when word came of the death
of a former Wroxeter boy, •Jack
Durst, son of Mr, and Mrs. I. Durst.
Jack has been a patient for some time
in Byron Sanitarium and appeared to
be making a good recovery, his con-
dition taking a very serious turn two
weeks ago. His brothers Phil and
Harold left on Saturday and remained
for the funeral services which took
place from the residence of his par-
ents in Stratford.
Mr. Jack Adams spent Sunday with
Galt friends.
Mr. John Bone of Sault Ste. Marie
and formerly of 'Wroxeter, was' a.
guest of Mr. anti Mrs. James Mc-
'ravish 'during the past week.
Miss K. Nicklin was a week-end
guest with her parents near Milverton.
Mr. and Mrs. Thos. Grant, Brussels,
also Mr. and Mrs. Roy Vogan, Moles-
worth, visited on Sunday with Mr. and'
Mrs. Harold Grant, 4th line.
Mrs. J. H.-Wade, Mrs. E. Williams
of Fordwich, and Mrs. C. Whitfield,
of Detroit, were Monday visitors with
