A meeting of the Federation of
Agriculture, was held here on Thurs-
day night last.
Pte. and Mrs. Milton Opperthauser
and son of Elmira, spent the week-
end with her parents, Mr. and Mrs.
G. E. Foster.
Rev. Taylor of Cranbrook had
charge of Communion Service in the
Presbyterian, Church here on Sunday,
when two new elders were inducted,
namely: Messrs Samuel Robinson. and
J. L. McEwan, also 3 baptisms and 7
joined with the church by profession
of faith.
The Wednesday half holiday which
began last week was remarkably well
kept for a village which has not been
in the habit of holding such, We
trust for the next-3 months the public
will try and remember to keep this
in mind and give the storekeepers a
chance to do the weeding in their
victory gardens.

Mrs, MaePhall, Donald and Grant
of Clifford and Mr. Fred Copeland of
Vancouver, visited on Monday ,vith
the latter's niece, Mrs. Arthur Stephen

Mr. and Mrs, H. V. Holmes and
Miss Perkins, are spending the week
with friends in Barrie and will spend
Friday in Toronto with Mr, Hohne's
father, who will celebrate his 1.00th
birthday.
Mrs. Melvin Taylor Heads Institute
Miss Margaret Dane was hostess
for the Women's Institute meeting on
Wednesday, May 19th. Mrs, Everett
.Sparling was in the chair and after
the customary opening exercises con-
ducted the business period,
The treasurer, Mrs. W. C. King,.
gave the report for the entire year.
This was a very gratifying report,
showing the many ways in which the
Institute has served the community,
and the boys in the service of their
country,
Mrs. Melvin Taylor was elected the
new president for 1943. Announce-
ment was made of the District An-
nual on June 2nd at Wroxeter, and
all members are urged to attend.
Mrs. Sparling gave a few highlights
concerning the garden brigade and
Margaret Dane showed her seeds and
her report book.
The programme committee had
chosen Mother'S Day as the topic, and
Mrs. Anson Galbraith read a poem by
Edgar Guest entitled, "Home." Mrs.
Stewart gave a very interesting talk
on the home garden in war time, and
stressing the need for every girl and
woman to take her place on the home
front by . growing more and better
vegetables. •
Mrs. Bell took the current events
and brought some very interesting
facts concerning pasteurized -milk and
growing sugar beets. The program-
me closed with Mrs. Galbraith and
Mrs. Stewart favoring the members
with a duet so familiar and well liked
"Tell Mother I'll be There." The June
meeting will be at the home of Mrs.
Norman Wade, and a good program
is planned.
The Institute will be holding a
dance in the Gorrie Hall quite soon
to raise money to carry on the work
they have been doing in sending boxes
to soldiers. Last year more than 30
boxes were sent and there are more
to remember this year. •
At the close of the meeting, refresh-
ments were served and all enjoyed a
social half hOur.

W. A. Held Quilting
Two quilts were quilted on Thurs-
day afternoon last at the regular meet-
ing of, St. Stephen's W. A,, at the
home of Mrs. Charles Lawrence. One
quilt being for the Red Cross and one
for the Deanery. A short business
and devotional period was held with
the president, Mrs. Holmes officiating
and leading in prayers. Mrs. Norman.
Wade read the 121st Psalm. Farrow—
ing the closing prayers a dainty lunch
was served by the hostess while
enjoyed a soical half hour. The next
meeting is to be a quilting held
the home of Mrs. Norman Wade, ;‘,11
June 3rd when the theme is to Ica
"The Light."
