OBITUARY Mrs. John Skelding The death of a• former resident of Wingham, Mrs. Annie Skelding, widow of the late John Skelding, oc- curred in Hamilton General Hospital on Friday, May 7th. She was in her 73rd year, She was formerly of Shel- bourne but was a resident of Wing,- hani for 10 or 12 years and was well known and highly respected by the people of this community. She is sur- vived by four sons and two daughters, George A., of Toronto; Mrs. Robert (Leanore) Campbell, Richard's Siding; Fred, of Hamilton; Miss Alma of Van- couver Dr. HarOld of Gananoque; and Frank of - Owen Sound. She is also survived by two sisters, Mrs. A. Cadwallader and Mrs. Wm. Field of Town, The late Thomas Kew was a brother, Burial took place in Shel- bourne on Monday,, Edgar S. Coulter The funeral of the late Dr, Edgar S. Coultes of Philadelphia, U.S.A., is being held this afternoon .(Wednes, (Wednes- day) from the A. J, Walker Funeral Parlours. • The remains arrived in Wingham on Monday, The service is in charge of Rev. C, Tavener, pastor of Bluevale United Church, assisted by F, G, Fowler, minister of 13luevale Presbyterian Church. Inter- ment in Wingham Cemetery, A native of Bluevale, Dr, Edgar S. Coolies. of Philadelphia, U,S.A., passed on Sunday, January I.Oth, in his 69th year, following a major operation. He was born at Bluevale and attended school there, He graduated from Model School at Goderich and the College of Education, Toronto. He taught school at Zetland and at Ripley, He then went to Philadelphia and graduated from the College of Dental Surgeons there, Since that time he had Conducted a practice in that city. He is survived by his wife, the form- er Miss J. McCrimmon of Ripley, his mother, Mrs, Thos. Coultes of Blue- vale, 92 years of age, at present with her daughter in Toronto, two sisters, Mrs. Jacic McIntosh of Molesworth, Miss Mabel Coultes of Toronto also two brothers, Charles H. of Listowel and Dr. John F. of Philadelphia. Mrs. John W. Smith Following a stroke which she suf- fered the Monday prior ba s her death, Mrs. 'John William SMith, passed on in Wingham General Hospital, on Wednesday, May 5th, in her 73rd year. She was born at Dorchester. but has been a resident here since June 1940. The former Francis Letitia Wade she was married in June 1941 to her now bereft husband. Surviving 'besides her husband are seven daughters and five sons, Mrs. Bert Sharron, of St. Clair, . Mich.; Mrs. W. M. Miller, of Alberta; Mrs. J. H. Young, of Lucan; Mrs. Alex Fraser, Sarnia; Mrs. Earl Wild, of Wingham; Mrs. Edward Bryan, of Courtright; Mrs, William Garrick, of Goderich;., W. M. Gould, of Sarnia; Jack Gould, of Chatham; Robert Gould, Courtright; Reginald Smith, of Toronto; Roger Gould, Canadian Army overseas, and one sister, Mrs. William Keck, ' of Comber. She is also survived by 23 grand children and four great grand children. The funeral service was held at the home of her son-in-law, Mr. Earl Wild, Scott street, on Sunday after- noon. The service was conducted by the Rev. E. 0. Gallagher, rector of St. PaOl's Anglican Church, of which she was a member. Burial took place in Wingham Cemetery. The pallbearers were, Stewart Cow- an, Harry Angus, Percy Harris, Robt. Hopper, James Wild, George Scott. ----, Albert Towle The funeral of Albert Towle, who died in Wingham Hospital, was held from the Lucknow United Church, with internment in Greenhill Ceme- tery. The service was in charge of Rev. '. W. Stewart, Mr. Towle, who was 88 years of age, was born at Kintore, a son of the late Mr. and Mrs, William Towle. He was the last surviving member of the family. Following his marriage to Miss Eliza- beth Ann Logan, they made - their home at Paramount, a few miles west of Lucknow. Thirty years ago Mr. and Mrs. Towle moved to Lucknow, where Mrs. Towle died six years later. Mr. Towle is survived by a family of eight: Gordon, of Vancouver; Mrs. Lindsay Howe, of Toronto; Ruth- sell LeRoy Towle, Winnipeg; George Emmerson Towle, of Port Arthur; John Calvin Towle, of Winnipeg; William Towle, of Milan, Mich,; Mrs. Harvey Muir, of Montreal, and Mrs. Fred Crump, of Belgrave. A son, Sidney, was killed in France in 1917. ST.' HELENS Mr. and Mrs. Mel. Brown of Kitchener, Mr, and Mrs. Alex Murdie and Bobby of Toronto, were visitors on Mother's Day with Mr. and Mrs. R. Woods. Mrs. Helm is a visitor with her daughter, Mrs. Jack Gardner, Zion. The annual meeting of the Women's Institute was held in the community Hall on Thursday with 15 ladies pres- ent and with Mrs. G. McPherson in charge. The roll call was responded to by the paying of fees and the telling of a joke, The treasurer in her report stated the year's proceeds to have been $244.71 with a -balance of $11.37 on hand. Most of the money has been spent in war work. Friday, May 14 was the date set for the Red Cross meeting. Mrs. Webb conducted an "alpha" contest and the topic "Making the best of what you have" was taken by Mrs. G. McPherson. Lunch was served: with Mrs. Cameron and Mrs. Stuart as hostesses, Mother's Day was observed on Sun- day by a family service for the churat school. Rev. J. A. Ward, and Mr- Lorne Woods,.Sunday School superin- tendent, were in charge and the theme• of the service was "Happy Home.°' Mrs, McKenzie Webb read a steno' "A Happy Family." The choir sae,rh:g "We thank Thee for Mother" and-Rh-1'z, J. A. Ward gave an address in keeparir, with the theme. The weekly meeting of the Y, R was held in the church on Stozaay evening with the president, Earl Dur- nin in charge. The topic "Christian- Cacalcade of Art" was taken by Ma Durnin. Porter Was Electrocuted Last March A Coroner's jury, investigating tfte death of William Porter, manager and proprietor of the Walter Rose Poultry Farm, Brussels, whose death occurred at Brussels on March 24, decided that his death was accidental. At the time of the accident Bill wahh, making an adjustment to a thermostat' of the -hatcher. Artificial respiration was carried on for over three hours,. but he failed to rally. The jury stated that "William, Porter came to his death by azeidetit clue to electrocution in the perforeo-- ance of his regular duties." He was 44 and had lived in Brussels. for five years, He was a Great War Veteran serving in France at the age• of 15.
