When be essayed to remove the
cracked glass from a transom over a
doe in his home on Queen street,
north on Friday, Mr, Alex Keith was
rewarded for his industry with a very
severely lacerated left mist, which
required several surgical stitches to
close the ragged wound, Mr. Keith
was using .a screw driver to pry the
transom frame from its seat, when it
slipped and his hand went right
through the pane, The jagged edges
of the glass ripped a nasty gash from
the base of his thumb to a point three
incises up on the wrist, and severed

Turnip Season Ends
The turnip season ended last week,
the local emporium, owned and oper-
ated by J. A. Goetz, having shipped
out from this station a total of 325
carloads since last October.- The price
rose during the season, from. 20c to
$1.00 per bushel.. It is thought that
the scarcity of canned vegetables and
potatoes had an important bearing on
the turnip price. The, turnip waxing
industry has brought a great volume
of business to this village, and Mr.
Goetz gave employment all winter to
an average of about fifteen hands. We
learn that he paid out a total of $40,-
000 for freight on his shipments. Most

One of the oddest freaks we have
seen in many a day was exhibited on
Tuesday by Al Irwin. It's a .hen's egg
that resembles a peanut in size and
shape, With the addition of a Sort of

all the more, to the resemblance of a

300 Chicks Burned
Fire, originating from the small
stove in the brooder house on the farm
of Mr. Walter Sharpe, 10th Conces-

Money Can Be Saved By Buying At Home
The business people in every community pay a large percentage of the local taxes;
their stocks and stores tell the citizens and visitors whether the town is a progressive
municipality or is in the doldrums.
The Wingham merchants advertising on this and other pages of this paper, are
doing their utmost during these critical days, to promote the interests of the town by
stocking such goods as are available. They are therefore entitled to' your support and by
supporting them you are helping yourself and also the town.
Gasoline and tires are precious at this juncture, so you can save both by doing
your shopping right id Wingham. In many instances prices are controlled, so there is
actually no object in spending money for transportation.
