Margaret Simpson
Gloom was east over the community
when word was received of the death
of Margaret Simpson in Victoria Hos-
pital on Sunday, Deceniber 13, She
was taking treatment in hospital, pend-
ing a thyroid operation, but passed
away before the operation was per-
formed, Margaret Mary Murdean
Simpson was born in Kintail 26 years
ago, the only daughter of Flora Mac-
Leod and the late Dr, A. A. 5. .Simp-
son. She attended the Kintail Public
School, the Goderich Collegiate and
Stratford Normal, afterwards teaching
school at Aylmer and Holstein, She
was a member of Ashfield Presbyter-
ian Church and 'took an interest in all
its organizations.
' She is survived by . her bereaved
mother and four brothers; Arthur of
Kenora, Robert of the R.C.A., Debert,
Nova Scotia, and Duncan and Don-
ald at home, To these we offer our
sincere sympathy in losing a kind and
devoted daughter and sister early in
life. A very large sympathizing con-
gregation attended the funeral service
conducted by her pastor, Dr. Rhoad,
assisted by Rev. R. A. McConnel.
Interment was in Kintail Cemetery.
Garniss - Hopper
A quiet but pretty wedding was
solemnized on Tuesday, Dezember 22
at 3,30 in the &Reception Room at
Wolsley 13arracks, London, when
Muriel-Eileen, youngest daughter of
Mr,. anti Mrs, Lyle Hopper, became
the bride of Pte. Thomas Garniss of
Chatham, youngest son of Mr. and
Mrs, J, Gareiss, Morris, The cere-
mony was performed by D, A, Cowan,
Padre Captain,
The bride who was unattended, was
dressed in gold crepe with blue ac-
cessories, and corsage of yellow roses
and maiden hair fern, also a gold chain
and locket, the gift of the groom.
After a short honeymoon spent in
London and Chatham they returned
home to spend Xmas with their par-
ents, after which the groom left for
Chatham to continue military training.
Your friendliness and Good Will during the
past year have been greatly appreciated,

She possesed a fine soprano 'voine
and many will recall her last solo sang
so beautifully at the Memorial Service
for the late Pilot Officer Ray Taylor.
She did not fail to do her best,
Her heart was true and tender,
Her loving smile and cheery words
We always will remember,
Mrs, 'Gates leaves a sorrowing Itus-
band and two children, Phyllis and
Wilmot, who are left to revere the
memory of a loving wife and kind •
mother; also her parents, Mr. and
Mrs. Robert Shaw of Bluevale„ and
two sisters, Mrs. Earl Heislip, of
Dunnville and Mrs, Milton Fraser, of
131tievale, to whom the sincere sym-
pathy of everyone is extended.
The funeral conducted by Dr. C. $.
Deddick, was held from the United
Church on Friday. The large attend-
ance and beautiful floral tributes'testi-
fied to the esteem in which the de-
ceased was held.
Interment was made in Erskine
Cemetery, The pallbearers were: Roy
Morrish, George Todd, William
Tweddle, William Hollinger, Fred
Ireson and Earl Taylor.
Mrs. Leonard Gates
(Pickering News)
The death of Mrs. Leonard Gates
of Cherrywood, which occurred at her
home on Tuesday, December 8th
brought deep regret to the people of
her home community as well as the
surrounding district. She had been
ill several months and although her
death was expected, it brought real
sorrow to all who. knew here. The
late Mrs. Gates, who was only 44
years of age, was before her marraige
Gillespie - Farrier
A very pretty Christmas wedding
was solemnized on December 26, at
twelve noon, before an arch of ever-
green, at the bride's home, when
Olive Gertrude, younger daughter of
Mr. and Mrs. W. R. Farrier became
the bride of Jack Chalfont Gillespie,
only son of Mr. and Mrs. J. Gibson
Gillespie, Whitechurch.
Given in marriage by her father,
the bride wore a Burma wine crepe
and silver metallic dress with match-
ing shoulder length veil. Her cor-
sage was of supreme roses. Miss
Winnifred was her sister's 'bridesmaid
and chose a Norway green frock with
a corsage of sunbeam roses. Rev. J.
A. Ward officiated. Mrs, Garnet Far-
rier, sister of the groom played the
wedding music and during the sign-
ing of the register, Mr. Garnet Farrier
sang "Because". Mr. Carman Farrier,
the bride's brother, was bestinan.
For travelling the bride wore a gold
wool suit with mink trim. After a
short honeymoon the happy young
couple will reside in Sarnia.
Wilson - Miller
The home of Mr. and Mrs. Wallace
Miller, of St, Helens, was the scene
of a, pretty wedding on Christmas
Eve, when Rev. J. A. Ward united in
marriage Laurine Elizabeth, Reg. N.,
only daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Miller,
and Pilot Officer Thomas Ferguson
Wilson, son of Mrs. James Wilson and
the late Mr. Wilson of Whitechurch.
The bride, given in marriage by her
father, was lovely in a floor-length
gown of pale pink silk jersey, with
finger-tip veil of pink net, and coronet
of roses, and carrying a shower bou-
quet of Premier Supreme roses and
adiantum fern.
The bride was attended by her
cousin, Miss Jean Thom, of Toronto,
wearing a flocii-ltrngth gown of tur-
quoise blue moussaline de soie, with
shoulder-length veil of blue net, and
