91st Birthday Friday
On Friday this week, Dr. Jas.
Armstrong will celebrate his 91st
birthday. This active Vet, Surgeon,
who for 65 years has been looking
after the veterinary necessities. of this
community, and no later than Mon-
day this week performed a successful
surgical operatidn, I-fe still is driving
his model T. Ford car, He is a mem-
ber of Forest Masonic Lodge, Wrox-
eter; he also has the honour of being
a Grand. Stewart of the Grand Lodge
for Ontario and has his fifty-year
medal some years ago.
Congraf4lations are extended also to
Mr, Chas. Irwin, who, ,on Monday,
November 2nd,, celebrated his 89th
year.
Mr. and Mrs, Jack Icing of Toronto,
spent Monday with Gorrie relatives.
Mrs. Chas. King returned with them.
Pte, We ley Gallaway of Petawawa,
spent the week-end with his parent'!;,
Mr., and Mrs, Wilbur Gallaway.
St. Stephen's Group Met
The regular meeting of the W. A,
of St. Stephen's church, was held at
the home of Mrs, Geo, Foster, with
la members attending and 4 visitors.
After the work of the afternoon was
finished which was patching quilt for
the hale, the president, Mrs, Holmes
took charge of the business part of
the meeting which opened with pray-
ers. Mrs. Armstrong read Bible
reading, PsalM 150, The next meet-
ing to be a quilting at Mrs, M. Mus-
grove's. Theme to be a "Proverb."
Mrs. Holmes then gave a few
thoughts on Praise and Thanksgiving
'telling that in these days of war to
keep a song in our hearts and to be
like Paul and Silas, who, in their da,ys
of trouble always Praised and gave
Thanksgiving to God for His good-
ness towards them.
The meeting then closed with the
Benediction followed by a very dainty
luncheon by hostess.
On ThUrsday last Mrs. Musgrove
entertained the members of the W. A.
at a quilting at her home. Roll Call
was answered by a Proverb, and pray-
ers were led by the president.
Bradley - Cumming
A marriage of interest was solem-
nized in the United Church, Blyth, on
Thursday afternoon at 2:30 o'clock,
when Catherine Isabell, only (laughter
of Mrs. Sidney Curnming was united
in marriage to Pilot Officer Gerald
Owen Bradley, only son of Ur. and
Mrs W, H, Bradley, Palmerston, The
ceremony was performed by Rev. Mr.
Heathcote, rector of. the Anglican
church, Palmerston, assisted by. Rev.
Arthur Sinclair, pastor of the Blyth
church. The bride wore a street-
length dress of teal blue with Juliet
cap in matching shade. Mrs. Hugh
Cumming, sister-in-law of the bride,
was matron of honor, wearing a redin-
gote costume in cocoa shade crepe
with black and white accessories. The
bride's flowers were golden glory
chrysantheumus. The bride was given
in marriage by her uncle, Robert Som-
ers, The ushers were V. M. Bray
and Archie Somers. A E. Cook, org-
anist of the church, played the wed-
ding music. Following, the ceremony
a buffet luncheon was served at the
home of the bride where the decor-
ationg were in a yellow and bronze
color scheine, interspersed with flags.
Those assisting were Miss Woodcock,
Miss E. Mills and Miss Dorothy
Poplestone. The couple left for To-
ronto, St. Catharines and Montreal, the
bride wearing a two-piece dress in
pebble crepe with black coat with
silver fox trimmings and black acces-
sories The bridegroom was a former
teller in the Bank of Commerce, Blyth.

Fowler - Douglas
A quiet wedding was solemnized at
the Presbyterian Manse, Alvinston, by
the Rev. R. T. Rutherdale, at eight
o'clock, Thursday evening, October
29th, when Dorothy Winnifred,
daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Robert
Douglas,.of Lucknow, *as united in
marriage with Mr. George Davidson
Fowler, of Wingham, son of the late
Mr. and Mrs. Peter Fowler. Miss
Isabel Fowler, sister of the groom
was bridesmaid and Mr. Gordon L.
Davidson, brother-in-law of the bride
was groomsman. They will reside on
the groom's farm on the Bluevale
Road.

The young people of the United
Church will hold their first meeting
Friday evening at the Manse. Mission
Band was held Squrday afternoon at
the Manse.
As what we need is what we appre-
ciate—M. Jeffray wishes to thank
those two good Samaritans who got
her a small supply of wood.
Hallowe'en passed off quietly with
slight bombings. The children amus-
ed themselves dresed to suit the oc-
casion.
Miss King gave a party at the
school Friday afternoon. Jimmie Mul-
vey carried off first prize for being
a well behaved old woman in costuthe.
The young people of the Presbyter-
ian church, held their Hallowe'en
party in the basement of the church.
Mrs. Ballagh, Myrtle, Harvey and
Miss King attended the Fowl supper
in Teeswater.
The missionary meeting of the
United Church was held Wednesday
afternoon at the home of Mrs. Wm.
Elliott with twelve in atteudance. The
meeting opened with singing and

will be held in its club rooms on Wed-
nesday at 8 o'clock, for the purpose

has moved to Bolton to draw the yard

deceased her in October 1934.
She leaves to mourn her passing,
one son J. Victor Haines of Morris
and a daughter, Miss Florence Haines
of London. She is also survived by
one sister,-,Mrs: John Irwin, Hartney,
Manitoba:
The funeral service will be held at
the residence of her son, Mr. J. Victor
Haines, 1st line of Morris, at 2 p,m.
today (Wednesday). The service will
be conducted by Rev. W. A, Beecroft,
pastor of Wingham United Church,
of which slie was a member. Burial
will take place in Wingham Cemetery.
Mrs. Alexander MacEwan
Following an illness of four months
Mrs. Alexander MacEwan of Morris,
passed on in Wingham General Hos-
pital early Tuesday morning. She was
in her 54th year. The former Lenora
Gourlay, she was a native of Brook-
lin, Ontario, daughter of the late
Thomas Gourlay, Her husband to
whom she married in 1920 passed on
in Jaunary of this year. •
The remains are resting at Fry-
fogle's Funeral Parlours, Wingham.
A service will be held in Bluevale
United Church at 2 p.m. on Thursday.
Following this service the remains will
be taken to Brooklin where another
service will be held at 2 p.m. on Fri-
day at the home of her sister, Mrs.
W. J. Halliday. Burial will take place

Jeffray MacAdam
A quiet but pretty wedding was
solemnized at Wingham, October 21st,
at the Presbyterian Manse, when Vera
Jean, youngest daughter of Mr. and
Mrs. Neil MacAdani, was united in
holy bonds of wedlock to Arnold
Sangster Jeffray, youngest son of Mr.
and Mrs. Robt. Jeffray of Glenannon.'
The bride was attended by, her sister,
Edna and the groom by Russel Baird.
The bride wore a floor-length gown
of white taffeta and a three quarter
length veil with orange blossoms.
After the ceremony they returned to
the bride's home where supper' was
served to the imtnediate relatives, The
evening was spent in cards and danc-
ing after which the bridal pair left on
a trip. The bride's travelling costume
being green coat and hat with green
accessories.

A quiet . but very pretty wedding
took place at the United Church par-
sonage, Brussels, at 1.30 o'clock, Sat-
urday, October 31st, when Alice Edna
Cook, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Fred
W. Cook, of Belgrave, became the
bride of Mr. William Garner Nichol-
son, son of Mrs. W. G. Nicholson of
Belgrave. Re'v. H. C. Wilson officia-
ted. The bride was very becoming in
a street length dress of pursuit blue.
She carried a bouquet of Sweetheart
roses. Miss Lelia Cook of Wingham
was her sister's bridesmaid. Her dress
was street length of turf tan crepe
with accessories to match and her
bouquet Talisman roses. Following a
trip to Tillsonburg, Port Burwell . and
other points they will reside on the
groom's farm in Morris. For travel-
ling the bride donned a ,red wool
dress, teal blue coat with mink trim.;

At the Presbyterian Manse, Wing-
ham, at 2 o'clock on Saturday, October
31st, Rev. Kenneth MaeLean, united in
marriage Zora. Bolt, daughter of Mr.
and Mrs. Nathaniel Bolt, of Belgrave,
and Mr. Norman Harold Cook, son of
Mr. and ,Mrs. Leonard Cook, of Blyth,
The bride was lovely in a powder blue
crepe dress with hat to match and
accessories of navy. Miss Reta Pur-
don of Whitechurch, the.bride's niece,
was bridesmaid. Her gown was of
wine taffeta with white lace. * Mr.
Russell Cook of Blyth, the groom's
brother, was best man. A reception
was held and a wedding supper serv-
ed to about 20 guests. Following a
trip to Owen Sound and other points
the young couple will reside in East
Wawatiosh. Guests were present

OBITUARY
Mrs. John R. Haines
Another of the older women of this
community has passed on in the per-
son of Mrs. Jahn R, Haines. Her
death took place at the home of tier
niece, Mrs, Fraser Patterson, Gode-
rich, early Monday morning following
an illness which confined her to her
bed since last February. She was the
former Rebecca Jane Lougheed and
Was in her 'Nth year.. Born in West
Wawanosh (Donnybrook) she spent
her girlhood there going to North
