Mrs. Victor Emerson returned home from Wingham Hospital on Thursday last and is making a good recovery. . Ruth McGuire, Lois and Russel Kelly. --- Mission Band Plan Thankoffering The MacKay Mission Band of the Presbyterian Church met in the church with the superintendent in charge. The Bible reading was taken by Elizabeth Young. Mrs. Dunbar ed in prayer and conducted the study ieriod. Plans were made for the autumn Thankoffering meeting when the Band will meet with the Women'i Missionary Society on Saturday, Oct- ber 17th in the church. Miss Ada Adams, a returned missionary from Formosa, will be the speaker. The Mission Band will present a short musical program. The meeting closed with a hymn and the Lord's Prayer. Games were conduCted by Marguerite Young. Officers And Collectors Named. A good crowd attended the annual neeting of the Belgrave branch of the Upper Canada Bible Society held in the Foresters Hall. The church was decorated with frowers grain„ fruit and. veg,etables,, emblematic of the bountiful harvest, A "Harvest Home" social was held on the Friday evening previous when . a program of .music, singing and con- tests was enjoyed followed by a lunch of sandwich, pumpkin pie and cold water. Held Rally Day Service Rally Sunday- waS' observed in the United Church on Sunday, October 11th, with the Sunday School present in a body to' participate in the service. Mr. Will Johnston, superintendent of the Sunday School, conducted the service, in which a number 'of child-. ren took part, Passages of Scripture were read by Muriel Smith, Shirley Selling, June Shiell and Wendell Stamper. Jean McLennan gave the story of the first Thanksgiving 'service, as observed by the children of Israel after their Egyp- tian bondage. A junior choir of boys and girls sang sweetly, a gospel an. them, Mrs. Stanley Gallaher read a story illustrating the appeal of Christ to a child's mind, The message "A Trde Focus on Life," was given iby Rev. Mr. Tavener, The church was decorated with autumn flowers, among which was a bouquet of roses, sent by Sergeant Russel Barnard of Char- lottetown, P. E. I. to his mother, Mrs. Edward Barnard. McCleary, t, A,„ repro- tentative of the British and Foreign Bible riciety, paid his annual visit to lilttevale this past week, and addres- sed a well attended meeting in the school room of the Ptesbyttriati Chtirch, Rev. P. G. Fowles' opened the meeting With scripture reading and prayer, and Rev. C, Tavener acted chairman. A chorus by schopl child- ren and a vocal duet by Mrs. Alex McCracken and, Mrs. Stanley Moffatt was enjoyed. Mr. McCleary told of the work of the Society and the num- ber of copies of the Nevi' Testament in different languages that have been given to men, in the service. He also showed a number of war pictures. A colleCtion was taken in aid of the local Red Cross Unit. Collectors will, soon be making 'their annual appeal. A good response will be appreciated.
