Dietitian work, graduated from the
0. A. C. on Friday last and left that
evening to take a position at Leth-
bridge, Alta. Miss Doris was one of
the three with the highest standing in
their claSs of 16 girls, and these three
were given an extra week of coaching
at the college.
Mrs. Victor Emerson returned
home from Wingham Hospital on
Thursday last and is making a good
recovery. .
Mr. Harry Hayes of Detroit, spent
a few days last week at the home of
his sister, Mrs. Reuben Tiffin.

left hand on Saturday that necessita-
ted a number of stitches to close the

the Churches on Sunday, In the Pres-
byterian church Mr. Locke, a student
supplying for Rev. Kerr of Brussels,
was in charge of the service. Speak-

Mission Band Plan Thankoffering
The MacKay Mission Band of the
Presbyterian Church met in the
church with the superintendent in
charge. The Bible reading was taken
by Elizabeth Young. Mrs. Dunbar
ed in prayer and conducted the study
ieriod. Plans were made for the
autumn Thankoffering meeting when
the Band will meet with the Women'i
Missionary Society on Saturday, Oct-
ber 17th in the church. Miss Ada
Adams, a returned missionary from
Formosa, will be the speaker. The
Mission Band will present a short
musical program. The meeting closed
with a hymn and the Lord's Prayer.
Games were conduCted by Marguerite
Young.

A good crowd attended the annual
neeting of the Belgrave branch of the
Upper Canada Bible Society held in
the Foresters Hall. Rev. 'Walter Mc-
Cleary of Elora, District Secretary,
addressed the meeting and also show'
ed talking picture's of the war. Rev,
G. H. Dunlop of the United Church
conducted a short worship service
which opened with the Doxology, fol-
lowed by Bible reading and prayer.

business period. Minutes of the last
meeting and treasurer's report were
read. The election of officers took

The Presbyterian W, M. S. met in
the church on October 6th, -Devotion-
al exercises being conducted by Mrs.
A. Bruce and Mrs. K. I. Scott. Plans
were made for the joint Thankoffer-
ing of the W. M. S. and Mission
Band which will be held on Saturday,
October 17th.
Miss Adams, a returned Missionary
from Formosa and a specialise in Mis-
sion Band work will be the guest
speaker. A short program will be
presented by the Band, A report of
the Presbyterial Rally held in Exeter
in September was given ,by Mrs. A.
Porterfield and Mrs. Young read a
very interesting article on the good
work being done at Esquimalt, B. C.
by Miss' Ruhy Blythe, a deaconess in
the Presbyterian Church, who at the
outbreak of the war saw the urgent
need of a Sailors Home and has made
a heart; warming, success of the
Esquimalt Service house.
The singing of a Hymn followed by
prayer brought the meeting to a close.

Mrs. John T. Currie's home was the
place of meeting for the Brick chuech,
W. M. S, for October. The meeting
was in charge of Mrs: Allan P'attison's
group, Mrs. Pattisore. Mrs,. Geo.Wal-
ker and Mrs, Lawrence Taylor led the
Worship period, the theme of which
was "Building, a Community of Chris-
tian Homes."
Our W. M, S. all over Canada is
commencing the study of "The Church
in My Community." At this meeting
"Christain Homes"; one of the 'steps
toward a Christain Canada was the
topic discussed: his- part of the
meeting was conducted by Mrs, M.
Galbraith and Mrs. .L. Wightmane
Following this Miss :Dorothy Pat-
tison played a pleasing piano solo.
During the business period' it was
decided to hold' a Cimgregational Hal-
lowe'en social. It is expected' this will'

A special Harvest Home Thanks-
giving service was held, at Knox Pres-,
byterian- Church conducted'. by Rev.
F. G. Fowler.. He• spoke from Psalm
78, -verse 15. "He- gave, them. drink
as out of the great depths,'" The
theme being.. Gratitude' to God for the
development of soul and body., A
Thanksgiving anthem by the choir- and
a duet by Mrs, Ra,yinond Elliott and
Mrs. F. G. Fowler added to the
beauty of the service.. The church
was decorated with frowers grain„
fruit and. veg,etables,, emblematic of the
bountiful harvest,
A "Harvest Home" social was held
on the Friday evening previous when .
a program of .music, singing and con-
tests was enjoyed followed by a lunch
of sandwich, pumpkin pie and cold
water.

11th, with the Sunday School present
in a body to' participate in the service.
Mr. Will Johnston, superintendent of
the Sunday School, conducted the
service, in which a number 'of child-.

Shiell and Wendell Stamper. Jean
McLennan gave the story of the first
Thanksgiving 'service, as observed by
the children of Israel after their Egyp-
tian bondage. A junior choir of boys
and girls sang sweetly, a gospel an.

story illustrating the appeal of Christ
to a child's mind, The message "A

Rev. Mr. Tavener, The church was
decorated with autumn flowers, among
which was a bouquet of roses, sent
by Sergeant Russel Barnard of Char-
lottetown, P. E. I. to his mother, Mrs.
Edward Barnard.

Rev, W. McCleary, t, A,„ repro-
tentative of the British and Foreign
Bible riciety, paid his annual visit to
lilttevale this past week, and addres-
sed a well attended meeting in the
school room of the Ptesbyttriati
Chtirch, Rev. P. G. Fowles' opened
the meeting With scripture reading and
prayer, and Rev. C, Tavener acted
chairman. A chorus by schopl child-
ren and a vocal duet by Mrs. Alex
McCracken and, Mrs. Stanley Moffatt
was enjoyed. Mr. McCleary told of
the work of the Society and the num-
ber of copies of the Nevi' Testament
in different languages that have been
given to men, in the service. He also
showed a number of war pictures. A
colleCtion was taken in aid of the
local Red Cross Unit. Collectors will,
soon be making 'their annual appeal.
A good response will be appreciated.
