BLUEVALE
Arrange For Social Evening
The third quarterly meeting of the
Ladies' Aid Society of Knox Presby-
terian Church was held on Thursday
afternoon in the Sunday school room
with the president, Mrs. R. Elliott,
presiding. The opening prayer was
offered by Mrs. Walter Smillie, Mrs.
G. A. Love presented the financial re-
port. Reports and the activities of the
groups were given by Mrs. E. Nichol,
Mrs. W. Smillie and Mrs. J. Snell.
Arrangements were made for a con-
gregational. Harvest Home and a
Thanksgiving social evening. Mrs. P.
:S. McEwen closed the meeting with

Rev. F. G. Fowler conducted regu-
lar service on Sunday morning in
Knor Presbyterian Church add in ac-
cordance with the Government Proc-
lamation, offered special prayer. His
text was "Seek Ye first the Kingdom
of God and His Righteousness and all
these things will be added unto you."
The Y. P. S. withdrew the monthly
evening service on account of the An-
niversary services in the - United
Church.
Dr. Hetherington, Mrs. Hethering-
ton and daughter of Brampton, were
holiday visitors at the home of his
parents, Mr. and Mrs. C. Hethering-
t on.
Mr, and Mrs. Albert Oke, and Mr.
Walter Hicks of Goderich, spent Sun-
day with Mr. and Mrs. George Love.
Mr. and Mrs. Harvey Johnston and
two daughters of Waterloo, spent
Sunday with relatives.
Miss Florence Fowler and Elmer
Fowler, attended the funeral of their
uncle, the late Mr. Modeland. at Sea-
forth on Monday.
Urged To Attend Rally
Mrs. J. J. •Elliott presided at the
monthly meeting of the Women's Mis-
sionary Society of Knox Presbyterian
church on Thursday afternoon. 'The
scripture was read by Mrs. Harvey
Robertson and Mrs. R. Elliott offered
prayer. The program for the Wom-
en's Missionary Society rally to be
held in St. Andrews church, Wingham,
on September nth., was presented and
all memberi were urged to attend.
Mrs. E, Nichol had charge of the
study chapter with Mrs. J. C. Higgins
and Mrs. R. F. Garniss taking part in
the discussion period. The Glad Tid-
ings prayer was read by Miss Florence
Fowler.
To Fill Ditty Bags
The president, Mrs. Earl Hamilton,
presided at the monthly meeting of the
Women's Association in the Sunday
School, room of the United Church, on
Thursday afternoon. The minutes
were read by the secretary, Mrs. Geo.
Thomson and Mrs. 5., Curtis gave the
financial statement. Prayer was of-
fered by Mrs. C. Tavener,, The soc-
iety is making a canvas for funds to
supply articles for ditty bags for sail-
ors. Readings were given by Mrs.
Edward Johnston and Mrs. Carl John-
ston and Rev. C. Tavener sang a solo.

Anniversary, services will be held in
Ebenezer Church on Sunday, Septem-
ber 20th, at 11 a.m. and 7,30 p.m.
Quest speaker, Rev. J. G. Howse of
Ashfield. Bluevale choir will furnish
special music at the morning service
and Belgrave choire at the evening
service.

in Toronto the past week and attend-
ed the Post Masters' Convention.

end visitor with friends in Seaforth.
Birk Fowler has returned to London
after spending the summer with Miss
Florence Fowler and brother Elmer
Fowler in Turnberry.
Mrs. Harold Harris and two sons
of Mount Forest, sepnt the week-end
with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Ed-

funeral of their cousin, the. late Mrs.
James Wilson at Elora on Sunday.

Decided On New Study Book
The United Church Womens' Miss
sionary Society held their annual
Home Helpers meeting at the home of
Mrs. John E. McCallum, with a splen-
did attendance. The president, Mrs.
Jesse Wheeler opened the meeting
with God Save The King 'and prayer.
Minutes and treasurer's report were
read. Sixteen visits to the sick were
reported. The members decided to
make a quilt and Mrs. McCallum of-
fered to dbnate print td put blocks
together. Mrs. C. Wheeler and Mrs.
C. Proctor were appointed to arrange
and conduct the next meeting which
will be held the second week in Oct-
ober instead of the first week. It was
decided to get the new study book,
"The Church In My Community".
Mrs. Earl Anderson and Mrs, Robert
Nicholson were in charge of the wor-
ship service. Mrs. E. Wightman gave
the bible reading. Mrs. Anderson led
a discussion on "The Community
Around Our Church" and Mrs. Nich-
olson gave a paper on "The Church In
My Community!' Mrs. Geo. Johnston
and Mrs. A. Manning sang a duet.
Work Done At Parsonage
Mrs, Stewart Proctor took charge
and conducted the Womens' Askeia-
tion meeting which opened with a
hymn and the Lord's Prayer, Min-
cites and reports were given. The
Parsonage Committee reported the
papering had been completed and it
was decided to varnish the wobclworlt
in the manse. The president closed
the meeting with prayer after which
lunch was served.
