Mr. and Mrs. Russel Gaunt enter- tained the Gaunt and Currie relatives on Friday evening la 4- in honour of the newlyweds, Mr. and Mrs. Eric El- liot, of Ottawa, We miss our mailman, Charlie Fin- lay on Route 3, Wingham these times. However it is that Charlie has gone to do his bit for the war effort. Mrs, Kirk, Mrs. 5, D. Beecroft and Florence motored to Toronto on Mon- day where Florence commences the fall term at Canada Business College. Mrs. E. Browning and Lillian of Tor- onto, who had attended the funeral of the late John Browning in Kincardine, and visited last week with her sister, Mrs. Thos, Kew of Wingham, accom- panied them back to the city. Mr, and Mrs. Henry McGee and Gordon and Miss Isabel Phillips left on Monday to spend four clays with friends at Inwood and Petrolia. Mr. and Mrs, J. F. McLean received the sad word on Sunday evening that their youngest son, Jack had been drowned in the Niagara River on Sun- day. Our sympathy goes out to them and their family in their sad bereave- lent. The marriage of Miss Kathleen Pat- terson, Reg. N., daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Henry Patterson of W. Wawanosh and Mr. Harold Cecil Birch, R. C. 0. C., son of the late Mr. Birch and Mrs. Armitage of St. Marys, was solemnized at King St. United Church, London by Rev. Gladstone Wood on Saturday, August 22nd. The bride's many friends in this com- munity extend congratulations. The death of Bishop Dennis O'Con- nor at Peterboro on Sunday was noted by residents of this community, Mr, O'Connor was raised in E. Wawanosh living on the farm on which Mr. Jos. Laidlaw now resides and attending S. S. No. 14. A.C.2 R. J. Kennedy of Winnipeg, who is training at St. Thomas, spent the week-end with his grandmother, Mrs. David Kennedy. Mr. and Mrs. Alex - Thompson will remain fora week. Miss Ruth Wheeler of Victoria Hospital, London, with her parents, Mr. and Mrs, Cecil Wheeler, Mrs. y h o s , Erydges and grand- daughter, Joan, visited with relatives in Stratford. Mr. and Mrs, J. M. Cotiltes and Robert Coultes, 3rd, line, Morris, spent a day with Mr. and Mrs. Har- mon Mitchell of Rothsay, Mrs, Mit- chell returned with them to visit her parents, Mr, and Mrs. John Coultes, Sr., and other relatives, Mr. and Mrs. 'Goldie Wheeler have returned from their wedding trip and will take up, residence in London soon. Misses Thelma and Lois McGuire, have gone to London to attend the London Business Institute. Miss Elaine Walsh lips gone to Toronto to attend Business College, Catherine Keating is spending a few days at Rothsay at the 1-idirie of her aunt, Mrs. Harmon Mitchell. Messrs. Kenneth and Mac Scott, spent a few days in Toronto last week. Mr. and Mrs. Wm. Vender,Sr., also Mr. and Mrs. Mel. Vender were recent visitors with Mr. W. S. Scott. Mr, and Mrs. Stewart Proctor and family spent Sunday at London and Port Stanley with their son, Charles, who is training at Thames Valley Camp. With them also were Mrs. A. Proctor and Mr. and Mrs. Bert Arm- strong and '• daughter. Mrs. Proctor and Mrs. Armstrong remaining for a few days. Also Miss Betty Jane Stark and Gordon Imlay, who returned to Detroit after visiting With Mr. and. Mrs. Stewart Proctor. Mr. and Mrs. Albert Cameron and Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Cameron of Ash- field, spent the day with Mr. and Mrs. Mason Robinson. ,Mr. Ernest Robinson was taken to London Hospital on Thursday last and Mr. and MrS. Herbert Laidlaw had the mis- fortune to break a bone in his wrist one day last week when cranking his car. Miss Anna May Carrick was brought home from the Toronto Hos- pital on Saturday. Mrs. Walter Lott has been under the doctor's care for the past few weeks suffering from a severe attack of flu. A. C. 2 Clifford Purdon of St- Thomas, spent the week-end at his home here. Mr. and Mrs. Jas. Curran have been busy during the past week moving to the farm of her grandfather, Mr. ../ychie Anderson, of St. Helens. Mr. and Mrs. Anderson are moving off the farm to St. Helens. Miss Doris McClenaghan of the 'Women's Air Corps, Guelph, spent the week-end with her parents here, and Trooper Irwin McClenaghan of Camp Borden was also home for the week- end. Rev. H. C. Wilson, Mrs, Wilson and Ruth of Brussels, made several calls in this vicinity on Thursday. Mr. A. E. Cook was a Toronto vis- itor this week. Mrs. Walter Cook spent Sunday with Mrs. J. ]Netts of Blyth. Mr. and Mrs. John •Thompson,Sr., and Mr, and Mrs. John Thompson, of Toronto, visited friends in the vicinity. On Sunday afternoon friends and relatives met at the river at Mr. Mar- vin McDowell's in honour of their aunt and uncle, Mr. and Mrs, Wm. Vendor of Bad Axe, Michigan. There were about 100 present, Friends being there from Toronto, Goderich, Bel- grave, Blyth and Auburn. Mr. Lloyd Tasker of Blyth, visited on Monday at the home of Mr. and Mrs, F. J. Cook. urday from Wingham hospital, both doing fine. Mr. Win. Woods of Kitchener, spent awhile last Sunday with Mr. and Mrs. Melville Mathers and family. BLYTH L. A. C. Bertram Elliott, who is at- tending Observer School at Ancienne Lcrette, Quebec, spent Sunday with his parents J. H. R. and Mrs. Elliott. Mr. and Mrs. Ken Whitmore and son, Douglas, spent over the week-end at Owen Sound. Mr. R, D. Phillip has purchased Mr. Earl Willows drug and drug sundry stock. This will leave only 'one drug store in Blyth. Yr. Willows has tak- en a position .with National Druggists, London, and will shortly move his family to that city. Miss Lois Robinson of the Women's War Auxiliary spent the week-end at her home. SALEM Mrs. Eli Bolt spent a couple of days, over the week-end with her son, Wm. Bolt and Mrs. Bolt. Mrs. Win. Weir, called on Mrs. 'Geo. Dane north of ,Gorrie last Thursday. Mr. Edwin Palmer spent Sunday with Mr. R. L. Lott of Wingham. Miss Minnie Linklater called on Mrs. Johnston of Wingham one day recently. Mr. Bill Errington and Mr. Harvey Simmons left on Monday for Tilson- burg. He and Mrs. Scott and their daughter, Gwendolyn, will take up res- idence in Parry Sound. Mrs. Proctor's Nephew Missing Lieutenant R. S. Stewart of the Roy- al Regiment of Canada, of Toronto, reported missing after the attack on Dieppe, is a nephew of Mrs. A. Proc- tor, 3rd. line, Morris and son of the late W. H. Stewart of Bluevale. Red Cross Monthly Meeting The Red Cross Society held the monthly business meeting on Friday afternoon in the workroom. The Pres- ident, C. R. Coultes was in the chair. Minutes of last meeting and corres- pondence was read. Several items of business were discussed but no defin- ite plans made. The meeting closed with God Save the King. Entertained By Brick Auxiliary The Women's Missionary Society of the United Church was entertained by the Brick church Auxiliary at a special meeting held in the church at which were also the Donnybrook and Westfield Auxiliaries. Rev. Reid Vipond of 'Trowbridge, was the special speaker, who gave a Missionary talk on "Weaving the Web of Canada," Rev. G. H. Dunlop of Beigrave, minister of the church, gave the Bible reading and led in prayer. Readings were given by Miss Jefferson, Donny- brook and Mrs, Stanley Cook of West- field. Lunch was served by the Brick church ladies, A large crowd attended the Red Cross dance held in the Forester's Hall on Thttriday night with lunge by Arthur's Orchestra. McDowell Family Reunion A reunion of the McDowell and Wighttrtart families was held Sunday at the home of Mr. and Mrs, Marvin McDowell, 6th. con, of East Wawa- nosh. Among guests from ,a distance were Mr. and Mrs, Wm. Vendor of l3ad Axe, Mich., who recently celebrat., ed eighty and eighty.third birthdays. Mn Vendor's son, Rev. Vendor and wife were also there. There were about one hundred people present and a very enjoyable time was spent, WESTFIELD Norman Rodger of Camp Borden, was home for a few days leave. Mr. and Mrs. Ed, Irwin and family of Goderich, visited on. Wednesday at the home of Mr, and Mrs. J. L. Mc- Dowell. Mr. Ray Vincent visited recently at the home of Rev. and Mrs. Wilson, of Brussels. Mr. and Mrs. J. L. McDowell, Jean and Gordon, visited on Friday with Mr. arid Mrs. Gordon Smith of God- erich. Mr. and Mrs. R. Stonehouse of Goderich, visited on Wednesday last with Mr. and Mis. Bert Taylor. Mr. and Mrs. Wm, Vendor, Rev, and Mrs. Melbourne Vendor of Bad Axe, Mich., visited with Mr. and Mrs. Maitland Henry and other friends. Mr. Elmer Mason has gone to Har- row where he has secured a job pick- ing tomatoes.
