On Friday evening of last week a number of friends and neighbors gath- ered at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Gordon Holt, and presented them with a miscellaneous shower in honor of their recent marriage. A program, consisting of solos, readings, duets and instrumentals was given, after which an address was read by Thomas Wil- son. The groom then made a suitable reply thanking all those on behalf of he, and his bride, and all joined in singing, "For they are jolly good fel- lows." Mr. Bob Ross read the scripture lesson, and Mrs. Dawson Craig gave the 'address. In the United Church the Y.P.U. had charge with Mrs. Mil- ian Moore in the chair, and leading in prayer. Florence I3eecroft read the scripture lesson and Miss Mildred Mc- Clenaghan gave an interesting talk on "What it means to be, and the respon- sibility of being a Christian," Sergt. Melvin McClenaghan was transferred last week to Ottawa. Mr, Albert Walters had the tips of two fingers crushed and cut, when working at the planer at the mill here one day last week. The Doctor re- moved the tips of the second and third fingers on his left hand. The folks on the 9th of E. Wawan- osh, who held the dance at the home of Mason Robinson on Thursday even- ing last, cleated over $59. The ladies are going to make this into quilts for Red Cross work. Gunner Lloyd Mason of Barriefield and Tiooper Kenneth Mason and Pte. Alfred Mason of Camp Borden, spent the week-end with their parents, Mr. and Mrs. John Mason, Sgt, and Mrs. Norman Davis of To- ronto, are spending two weeks with Mr. and Mrs. Lawrence Taylor and Mr. Davis is helping with the harvest. He is in the Medical Corps of the R.C.A.F. The ladles of the W.M,S, of the Presbyterian Church held their stitn, mer social meeting at the home of their president, Miss Merle Wilson on Thursday last. Miss Wilson was in charge of the program. The fun- eral on Sunday was largely attended. He leaves to mourn his loss, a sorrow- ing widow, two sons, Wm. T. and •Leshe of this locality and a daughter, Mary Belle, Mrs. Osier of near Lis- towel; also two sisters of Wingharn, (Lizzie) Mrs. J. E. Gemmill, Eva Bolt and (Millie) Mrs. Ezra Merkley of London. The sorrowing friends have the sympathy of the community at large. Miss Iva Gallaher of London spent the week-end with liar parents, Mr. and Mrs. A. E. Gallaher. Mrs. Gal- laher is still in a critical condition. We hope she may soon be on the mend.
