Ladies Aid Quilted
Mrs. Burns Moffatt was the hostess
this week for the monthly meeting of
the Double Group of the Ladies' Aid
Society of Knox Presbyterian Church.
The president, Mrs. Archie Messer,
presided over a short devotional and
business session, The greater part of
the afternoon was spent quilting. At
the close of the meeting the hostess
served lunch. The August meeting
will be held at the home of Mrs. Jack
Snell.

The Ladies' Guild of St. James
Anglican Church •held their August
meeting in the church school-room on
Tuesday of last week. The afternoon
was spent quilting.

Workers, held a quilting in the school
house of S. S. No. 2, on Wednesday
of last week.
Mr. and Mrs. Ken Denny and baby
daughter also Miss Velma. Greason, all
of Fergus ,were Sunday guests of Mr.

New Past Master
Mr. A. Meahen the newly appointed
Past Master, is now in charge and his
many friends will wish him the best
of success. Mr. Meahen succeeds Mr.
H. Waller, who has held the position
for many years.
United Church Service
Adj. Hetherington of the Salvation
Army, Kirkland Lake, was the guest
speaker at morning service in United
Church. Rev. J. L. Foster, the pastor,
was. also present and took charge of
the service. The usual 'display of
flowers helped brighten the service.
The choir contributed two numbers.

There passed away at her home on
Friday, July .24th Mary Littlefair,
widow of the late Mr. Neil Taylor, in
her 72nd year. Her husband was' in-
stantly killed on Armistice Day.1918.
Survining is one daughter Annie, Mrs.
.Dr, Ross of Baden. Service was held
in the United .Church Sunday with
Rev. Arthur Sinclair in charge. Mr.
George Branton of Toronto sang very
effectively, "Peace Perfect Peace."
The floral tributes bore mute testi-
mony to one of Blyths most noble
women. 'Burial took place in Union
Cemetery. The pallbearers were Mr,
RObert Watt, Mr. Wm. Cockerline,
Mr. 5, B. Watson, Mr. Albert Taylor,
Mr. Robert Powell.
Over twenty animals were killed in
Kinloss during the electric storm last
week. Mr. Alec Cameron lost two
good cows.
The Young People of the United
Church will have charge of the sery
ice next Sunday commencing at 10
a.m. Rev. H. A. Barnard is taking
three weeks holidays.

tertained last Friday afternoon the

Miss Isabel Fox, Reg. N., who has
been supplying during the nurses va-
cation at Kincardine. Hospital, return-
ed to her home here on Sunday.
Mr. and Mrs. Fred Clarke of Am-
herstburg 'are spending this week at
the home of her father, Mr. Robt.
Carrick. Miss May Carrick is still
confined to her bed, having recently
suffered another bad spell.
Misses Marilyn and Donna McLean
of St. Thomas, spent last week with
their grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. J,
F. McLean.
Miss Evelyn Leaver of E. Wawan-
osh is visiting this week with Mrs.

Institute Had Historical Meeting
The Historical research meeting of
the ,Belgrave Women's Institute was
held at the home of Mrs. John Ander-
son with a good attendance,
The program was arranged by Mrs.
Cyrus Scott, convener of the Standing
Committee on Historical research and
the Grandmother's of the community
attended as honored guests.
The President, Mrs, Earl Anderson,
conducted the meeting which opened
with the National Anthem. The In-
stitute Ode and The Lord's Prayer
repeated in unison, Minutes and the
treasurer's report were read and ap-
proved. The roll call was responded
to with the name of The First School
I Attended, and The Name of My
First Teacher.

Mr. Clarence AfcClenaghan has been
attending Summer School at Goderich
during the past week.
Mrs. Andiew Kirk has been visiting
with her niece, Mrs. Will Lyon of
Londesboro and with Seaforth friends.
Mrs. Russel Gaunt held a Red Cross
quilting at her home last week, and
Mrs. Wm. Dawson held one on Mon-
day.
Mr- and Mrs, Harry Moss of Glen-
coe, spent the week-end with her par-
tents, Mr. and 'Mrs. Ben McClenaghan.
The Young People of the Presby-
terian Church will have charge of the
Services during- August while Mr. Wil-
son is taking his holidays. Rev. Mr.
McMillan of Dunblane had charge of
the services 'in the Presbyterian
church here on Sunday, while Rev.
A. H. Wilson preached anniversary
services there.
A.C.2 Bob Watt of Manning Pool,
Toronto, spent a few days this week
at the home of his sister, Mrs. Millan
Moore, and A.C.2 George Watt has
been moved to St. Huberts, Que.
Mr. and Mrs. J. B. Morrison spent
the week-end with relatives in Tor-
onto, where Mr. Morrison has been
taking medical treatment.
Dr. Harold Robinson of Walkerton,
spent a few days last week with his
parents, Mr. and Mrs. Wm. Robinson.
. Mrs. Broomer, who has been visit-
ing with. Mrs. John McGee, returned
home on Friday last.
Miss Helen Thompson, student nur-
se in Victoria Hospital, London, is
spending her three weeks holiday at
the home of her parents, Mr. and Mrs.
Frank Thompson.
Mrs. Wilbert Gallivan from Sask,,
is visiting with her aunt, Mrs. W. R.
Farrier; Mrs. R. T. Phillips of Gode-
rich, and Mr. Carman Farrier, Lon-
eon, also spent the week-end there.

last week at the home of her uncle,
Mr. Herson Irwin, and Jimmie Cane

week in the Sunday Sehool room of

and Morris prepared by Mrs. Albert
Coultes, was . conducted by Mrs. Sou-
cy Cook. A boxful of cut-out gar-

Cross Rooms and passed out to mem-
bers for making up,
Donna and Lloyd Anderson sang a
duet entitled "Tell me your .song" ac-
companied by Miss Velma Wheeler,
A paper was given by Mrs. Cyrus
Scott on the life of Dr. Dunlop, A
spelling match was conducted by Miss
Mabel Coultes and ,won by Mrs. S.
Cook,
The five grandmothers present each
received a bouquet of flowers. A 10
cent collection was received and lunch
was served by the hostess, assisted by
Mrs. S. Cook and MrS. C, Scott,
Sunday School Held Picnic
The United Church Sunday School
held its annual picnic on Thursday
afternoon with the best atendance in
several years. The program included
races tor all -from the tiny tots to the
grown-ups. TWO games of softball
were played by adult members of the
group and the children enjoyed games.
A refreshment booth was well patron-
ized and lunch was served at the close
of the afternoon.
Triple V Entertained Excelsior Class
The young mens Triple V Class of
the United Church Sunday School,
entertained the senior girls Excelsior
Class at a marshmallow roast at the
river, 4th line Morris, one evening last
week, when there was an attendance
of 46. Softball and other group games
were enjoyed, after which the group
formed a circle around the large camp-
fire and a sing-song was conducted by
Goldie Wheeler, When the embers had
died down to just the right stage, the
boys passed marshmallows and cook-
ies. The marshmallows were roasted
on the customary long sticks and a
very happy time spent.
Miss Barbara Michie and Miss Ed-
ith McCAnaghan Moved a vote of
thanks to the boys which was heartily
responded to e.nd the girls sang, "For
They Are Jolly Good Fellows.
In the , United Church, Sunday
School and Church service were held
at the regular hours of 10 and 11 a.m,,
with the minister, Rev. G. H. Dunlop
in charge, and taking his sermon from
the text "As Thy Day so shall Thy
Strength Be". In the Sunday School
the attendance banner for the month
went to the Senior Girls Class. Reg-
ular services were also held in the
Presbyterian Church with Rev. Kerr
of Brussels as guest speaker. There
was no service in the Anglican
Church.
Mrs. Joseph Chamney, 9th conces-
sion East Wawanosh, is spending
some time with Mrs. Harry Perdue.
Albert Bacon, who was seriously in-
jured a few weeks ago when kicked in
the face by a horse, has improved suf-
ficiently to be brought home from
Wingham Hospital, but is still far
from being fully recovered. 4
Mrs, Clifford Logan and baby Pat-
ricia Anne, who have spent the past
six weeks at Grand Bend, have return-
ed home.
Mrs. Louis Hayes and four child-
ren Thomas, Jean, Caron, and Billy, of
Illeria, Ohio, who have spent the past
few weeks with her parents, Mr. and
Mrs.-Thomas Brydges, and other rel-
atives,. returned home on Friday.
Miss Mary Yuill and Miss Fork-
werk (whose home is in the West)
but now both of Fergus, spent Sund-
day with the former's parents, Mr.
and Mrs. Joseph Yuill,
George McKenzie of Windsor; is
visiting his parents, Mr. and Mrs. R.
B. McKenzie.
Mr. and Mrs. Simon Forsyth of
Regina, who have spent the past few
weeks with relatives and friends in
this locality, left for home on Satur-
day,

'Toronto., and Mrs. McLeod of Win-
itipeg, with Mr. and Mrs., J. A, Geddes,
Mrs. John. Mustard and sons Cam-
eron and Fraser of the 2nd line Mor-

Died Following Haying Accident
Mr. Pat Hogan, 12th Concession of
Ashfield, was badly injured in a hay-
ing accident. He was rushed to
Wingham Hospital following the ac-
cident on Friday and underwent an
operation fit an effort to save his life.
He passed on however on Saturday
night.
