The Red Cross Society held its
monthly business meeting in the work-
room with the president, C. R, Coultes
in charge. The meeting opened with
a hymn and prayer, Minutes and the
treasurers report were read and ad-
optcd. It was decided. to start a
separate fund to provide boxes for the
boys overseas and $67.52 the profit on
collections and sale of lunch at the
recent entertainment at John MCGill's
was set aside for the purpose. The
following Box Committee was appoin-
ted; Convener, Mrs. Gordon Walsh;
Mrs, L. Hutton, Mrs, H. Perdue, Mrs.
R.. Nicholson, Mrs. D, Armstrong,
Mrs. G. Johnston, Mrs, A. Manning,
Mrs. T. B. Johnston, Mrs, L. Hopper,
Mrs. H, Walsh, It was decided to
send the next boxes in July.
A letter was read from Mr. and Mrs.
J. McGill thanking all who helped
with the recent entertainment held at
their home,
The secretary- was instructed to
write a letter of thanks to Mr. and
Mrs. McGill for the use of thei,- honie
and fOr their generous -co-operation.
The meeting closed with God Save
The King.
$500 Profit On Red Cross Party
A Monster Outdoor Entertainment
was held at the home of Mr. and Mrs.
John McGill 4th line Morris, sponsor-
ed by the Belgrave Red Cross Society
with net proceeds of over $500.00.
Over fourty members of the. R.C.A.F,
school at Clinton with Chaplain Mur-
ray in charge presented a musical
program on an outdoor stage decor-
ated with evergreens and flags. Chor-
uses, violin soion,- vocal solos, quar-
tettes, were enjoyed by the large
crowd of over 800 people. Bingo was
played before and after the program.
A large dance floor was well patron-
ized with Arthur's Orchestra providing
the music.
The lucky ticket was drawn on a
yearling calf donated by C. R. Coultes
and won by James Cameron of Wing-
ham: Several booths were on the
gortinds, the hot dog and sandwich
stands furnishing lunch.
Perfect weather, spacious grounds
and the hearty co-operation of all the
members of the district all helped to
make a very successful entertainment.
Mr. and Mrs. Louis Hayes and
family of Alleria, Ohio, are visiting her
parents, Mr. and Mrs. Thomas Bryd-
ges.
Rev. G. H. Dunlop visited his moth-
er at St. Thomas,
Jack and Gibson Armstrong of
Kitchener and New Hamburg, spent
the week-end-with their parents, Mr.
and Mrs. D. Armstrong.
Mrs. John Coultes Sr., is spending
a week with relatives at Elora and
Guelph.
Mr. and Mrs. Cecil Armstrong of
Kitchener, with relatives over the
week-end.
Andrew Ferguson and daughter,
Mrs. Norman Geddes of Toronto, are
visiting relatives and friends
Charles Johnston and Miss Lauretta
Johnston of Fergus, spent the week-
end with Mr. and Mrs. 'George John-
ston.

time enjoyed by all,
Mrs. porterfield of Marnock slipped
on the wa,ed floor one day last week
and broke the bones in her wrist.
Mr. and Mrs. James Snowden visit-
ed recently with relatives near
Orangeville.
Mrs. Duffy visited recently at the
home of her daughter, Mrs. Kirby. of
Teeswater and visited with Mrs, Kir-
by's son, P,O, Roy Renwick, who has
been on duty at Nova Scotia for six
months, and who leaves on Wednesday
for sir ,months more duty there, and
also with L,A.C. Frank Renwick, a
mechanic at Centralia Airport,
A pleasant evening was spent re-
cently by the people of S. S, No,
Kinloss, when they gathe'red at the
home of Mr. and Mrs, Edward. Moore
in honour of Miss' Myrtle Yuill, who
has been their teacher for the pant
four years, and who is leaving this
week. During the evening she was
called to the front and ,Rena Moore
read an address of appreciation for
her work in the section and Vivian
Fisher presented her with a comb,
brush and mirror set, and also a pair
of candlestock holders, and fruit bowl.
Miss Ynill, thanked her friends fit-
tingly for their tokens of regard.
Miss Edna Lawson of Auburn,
spent the week-end with Mrs. Mason,
Robinson.
Successful anniversary services were
held in Brick United Church on Sun-
day with Rev. Reba Hearn of Varna
as special minister for the day. In
the morning service, Mrs. George Tay-
lor assisted the choir and at the even-
ing service, the Belgrave male quar-
tette supplied the special musical num-
bers. Miss Hearn, in the evening,
spoke on, Crown Him Lord of all,
stressing the change in men's lives,
when they volunteer in Christ's army.
There will be no service in the Pres-
byterian Church here next Sunday on
account of anniversary services at Cal-
vin Church. Rev. Austin Budge will
preach there at 11 a.m. and 8 p.m.
Mr. and Mrs. Robert Hall, Wing-
ham, spent Suilday with Mr. and Mrs.
John Craig. -

Pte, Alfred Mason from Camp Bor-
den, spent the week-end at his home_
here, and Mr. and Mrs. •Mason ac-
companied him . back as far as Strat-
ford on Sunday. Mr. Andrew Shiells

Mr. and Mrs. Gordon Robinson of
Wingham, and his sister, Miss Irene
Robinson of Donnybrook, spent Sun-
day at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Ste-
wart McBurney.
Mr. and Mrs. Orville 'Tiffin and
sons attended the reception held in
Lucknow Town Hall last Thursday
evening by Mr. and Mrs. Gordon
Jamieson, in honour of the marriage
of their only daughter, Mary Isabel
to Pte. J. G. Splan of the Canadian
Dental Corps, Clinton, son of Mr. and
Mrs..Splan of Kincardine. They were
married at St. Thomas on Tuesday,
June 23, with Rev. Mr. MacDonald
officiating. The bride has many rel-
atives in this district.

Donald Newman, Wingham, is
holidaying with Angus Falconer.
Miss May Wightman has been in,
Wingham Hospital` last week, follow-
ing an operation for appendicitis. She
went home to Blyth on Tuesday.

This congregation through the Wo-
tames Auxiliary, and the Young
Peoples Union wish to take this op-
portunity to extend to you our best
wishes for great happiness and bless-
ing to accompany you, in your years
of retirement froM the active ministry
of the United Church.
We have appreciated your earnest
efforts to serve the members of this
church and promote the interests of
Jesus Christ in our midst, and several
times, at Easter and Fall Thank-of-
fer* meetings the ladies of the W.
M.S. have been greatly inspired by the
message given by Mrs. Barnard as
special guest speaker, and we know
that the people among whom you are
now goidg to make your first real
home, for many years, will be blessed
in having you for their new neighbor.
We wish you to accept this Hymn-
ary, and hope you both will have many
years, in which to use it, to sing your
Master's praises.

Mr. Barnard thanked the congrega-
tion for their remembrance, with a

moved into the manse from Pelee Is-
land. The induction services will be
held in the United Church here on
Friday evening at 8.30 p.m. with Rev.
W. A. Beecroft of Wingham, and Rev.
Howse of Lucknow °as special speak-
ers.
Many of the older residents of this
Ilistrict will be interested to note the
passing of Rev. J. M. Bowering, who
for the past fourteen years has lived
retired in Winnipeg. He was raised
in Kinloss and leaves a sister, Mrs.
Robt. Phillips of Goderich to mourn
him.
Mrs. Furbur, foimerly Lena Peddle,
of Tisdale, Sask., has' been visiting at
the home of her sister, Mrs. Gibson
Gillespie for the past two weeks and
will leave on Saturday to visit with
her daughter, Mrs. Jack MacFarlane
of Brantford.
Mr. Ernest Robinson has been very
ill with pneumonia at the home of his
sister, Mrs. John Kilpatrick, for the
past week. His mother, Mrs. Wm.
Robinson is also there.
Born - on Tuesday, .June 23 in
Walkerton General Hospital, to Dr.
and Mrs. Harold Robinson, a daugh-
ter.
Miss Marjorie Purdon of Kitchener,
spent a few clays last week with her
parents, Mr. and Mrs. Robt, Purdon.
Members of the Red School Liter-
ary Society, and the S. S. No. 11 met
at S. S. No. 11 school house on Tues-
es and his bride, formerly Miss Don-
na J. Smith. Rev, C. 'reveller acted
as chairman. Mrs. J. Wickstead and
Ross Smith contributed vocal solos,
and .readings were given by Mrs. C.
Tavener and Miss Mary Duff. A sing-
song led by Mrs. Wickstead was en-
joyed. An address was read by Miss
Margaret Curtis and Mr. and Mrs.
Jones were .presented with a shower
of white and red enamel kitchen uten-
sils. Miscellaneous gifts including
gifts of money. Mr. and Mrs. Jones'
thanked their friends for the honour
that had been bestowed on them. and
,for the beautiful gifts. Sandwiches
were served and each guest reecived
a piece of brides' cake. Mr. and Mrs.
Jones reside at Lucknow.

spent Sunday at his hame here.
Arnold R.C.A,F. Camp Bor-
den, was a week-end visitor with his
mother.

week with his father, John F. Messer.
Mrs. Lottie. Turvey, Toronto, is

Mr. and Mrs. Thomas Stonehouse of
Hespler, spent a short vaption with

Mr. and Mrs. McKee, Montreal are
holidaying with Mrs. McKee's mother,
Mrs. J. Curtis and other relatives.
Mrs. M. L. Aitken is spending the
holidays at her home here. Migs Dor-
othy Aitken has tendered her resigna-
tion from the teaching staff of the St.
Marys Public School and will attend
Summer School at the Western Uni-
versity, London.

of the United Church, held the an-
nual picnic on the school grounds on
Tuesday afternoon.

scholars of Knox Presbyterian church,
joined with the Eadie congregation
and held their picnic at the Palace
Gardens, Formosa, on Tuesday after-
noon.

W.M.S. of the United Church was held
on Thursday last with the ladies of .
St. Helens W.M.S. also present, Mrs.
Victor Emerson was in charge of 'the
meeting. Mrs. Russel Gaunt read the
Scripture lesson, and Mrs. Ben Mc-
4Clenaghan read, "What can a mother
give her child." During the medita-
tion period, Mrs. Ezra Scholtz sang
a solo, Mrs. Thos. Moore led in prayer,
Mrs. J, H. Polock of Fordwich gave
a very interesting report of the W.M.
S. Convention she had attended in
May at St. Marys, and the President
of the Presbyterial, Mrs. Robt Nay of
Fordwich was also present and gave
an interesting talk on making our
meetings more effective. Mrs, Mac
Ross led in prayer. Mrs. Milian
Moore gave two veryinteresting read-
ings, Aldamega, and The Touch of the
Master's Hand. .The meeting was
closed with prayer by the President.
The ladies decided to purchase war
stamps for "the Help your country-
help your church" fund and will have.
sufficient for two war certificates.
Misses Winnifred and Olive Farrier,
teachers from Toronto, are holidaying
at the home of their parents, Mr. and
Mrs. W. R. Farrier.
Mr. and Mrs. Herb Duffy and son
Jack, of Teeswater, visited with his
mother, Mrs. Duffy on Sunday, and
Mr. and Mrs. 'Walter Robson of
Walkerton visited with her uncle, Mr.
Wm. Barbour.
Miss Isabel Fox, Reg. N,, is supply-
ing in the Hospital at Kincardine at
present, while the nurses are on holi-
day.
The convoy with which Rev. G. 0.
Cox sailed to Britain, reached there
one day last week. It was one of the
largest that ever crossed the ocean and
arrived safely.

ters, Shirley and Dianne of Wingham,
and Mr. and Mrs. Harold Johnston
and sons, Lucknow, and Roberta

BLUEVALE
Institute Picnic July 7
The regular meeting of 'the Wo-
man's Institute will be held on the
Bluevale School grounds, on Tuesday
afternoon, July 7th at 2.30 o'clock and
will take the form of a, picnic. The
local ladies, Miss Jean Elliott and
Miss Lela Agar with their classes,
will have charge of the program. A
demonstration "The Well Equipped
Clothes Closet" from the project
"Clothes Closet up-to-date" will be
given and a lemonstration, "Our Na-
tional Pantry Shelf" from the project
"The club girl stands on guard" will
also be presented as well as exhibits,
dealing with the two projects. This
gives promise of being a splendid pro-
gram, Visitors are always welcome,
