The Wallpaper & Gift Shop
New Location Opposite The Queen's Hotel
In an. atmosphere of tense political
excitement Premier King Monday
asked, parliament to free the hands of
the government to institute overseas
conscription if and when such a course
becomes..necessary.
Government action took the form of
a bill to remove from the Mobilization
of Resources Act section three, which
limits compulsory service to armed
forces serving in Canada or its terri-
torial water.
Before he introduced "the amend-
ment, Premier King announced to the
House that Hon. P. J. A. Cardin, min-
ister of public works and transport,
had resigned from the government in
protest against the decision to remove
the limiting section from the Mobilize
ation Act.
Even while the prime minister was
introducing the amending bill in the
Commons, about 40 French-Canadian
Liberal members, almost all from
Quebec gathered in a protest meeting.
