To-day he said, !Mr, Harman and
1,1r, R. J. Scott with representatives
of the beef produetures are in Ottawa
discussing the. beef .Situation, We can-
not compete with industry which pays
.such high wages and thus takes farm
labor, This is one of the reasons we
should have a Federation of Agri-
culture, /.":ly their representations at
Ottawa to federal members last year
the farmers have benefited by millions
of dollars. The pegging of butter he
said had pot the Federation, on - its
feet.
He urged the organization of -com-
modity groups which would work
through the Federation, We must
have a national policy based on equal-
ity of all people, a better understand-

been guilty of serious neglect of our
business but we do not want to be
guilty in the future, This war may
be won with food products, we farm-

much in terms of surpluses and he
predicted that some form of rationing
may be necessary soon, 'butter he
named specificially. Surveys such as
was taken in Hullett, East Wawanosh

CITN0( MISSIONS HELD
ANNUAL 'CONVENTION
Gathering Was Held In Listowel Last
Week •
The City Mission Worker's Society
of the M. B, C. Church of Ontario
held their annual convention at the
City Mission, Listowel from Thursday
April 9 to Sunday, April 12. Workers
were present from St. Catharines,
Wingham, St, Thomas, Petrolia, List-
owel and Collingwood.
Rev. Sara Gregory M. A. of Kinston
who was , engaged as guest speaker,
brought inspirational messages in both
the afternoon and evening sessions.
'The mornings were devoted ,to the
busiess of the convention. Mrs. W.
Purdy of Forest brought special mes-
sages in song in the various services.
Other special singing consisted of a
Mission Worker's Chorus and quar-
tette. On Thursday evening, Miss V,
Schwass gave an address of welcome,
and the leaders of St. Catharines and
Wingham Missions brought encocrag-
ing reports of their work.
Rev, Gregory based her message on
1 Kings, 18' verse 38, 39-"Then the
fire of the Lord fell and they said,
The Lord He is the God." She
brought out the thought that when the
fire of 'the Lord falls, men and women
are looking for a, demonstration of it
in 1. Holy living, 2. Holy loving, 3.
Holy witnessing.
Friday afternoon an essay "Scrip-
ture and Inferential proof that wo-
man is called and should 'be designed
to the work" was very ably presented
by Miss J. E. Peard of Toronto. She
brought out the thought that Pentecost
gave woman a status in the Christian
church that was hitherto unknown.
Conclusive proof that woman is called
and designed to the work 18 based up-
on the 'word of God,
Rev. 'Gregory chose as her subject
for the afternoon "The Mission Work-
er as the prescriber .for souls." She
took as her text, Paul's admonition to
Timothy in 1 Tim. 4:16 "Take heed,
unto thyself," and brought out Many
of the -ways iri which the prescription
must prove to be effective in the lives
of Christian workers, before it can be
recommended and applied to sinsick
souls.,
On Friday evening V Herber of St.
Thomas, and R. Sergeant of Petrolia
spoke on the various phases of their
work. Rev. Gregory's message was
based upon the words "Present your
bodies" in (Rom.12:1). She gave three
reasons why we should present our
bodies. 1. Because of the mercies of
God, 2. The need of dying men and
women, 8. The shortness of our lives,
The presentation of our bodies invol-
ves, 1, Our bodily movements and ac-
tivities, 2, Our sensory facilties, 3.
fatiltits,
"What constitutes an ideal 11118810ft
Worker" was the topic presented by
Miss It, Hostetler on Saturday after-
noon, Miss Spees of Pettolla brought
the message '''The what and 'why of
,City Mission work," taking the and-
knee back to its origin: and develop-
meet ,and painting out its purpose,
After reports were given from Petrolia
and Listowel, Rev. Gregory presented
the message, "The secret of a true
revival," Rev. Gregory based her mes-
sage upon the phrase found in Gal.
1:16 "But God called me His
grace to reveal His Son in me."
Sunday was the crowning day of the
convention, opening at 10 a.m. with
a communion service, the communion
exhortation being given by the presi-
det of the Society, Rev. M. Bricker.
The afternoon message presented by
Rev, Gregory wa's based upon the
words "No man liveth to himself, and
no man dieth to himself." She brought
out the thought of unconscious and
conscious influence.
Her evening message on the "Feast
of Salvation" was made a real bless-
ing.
