Fractured Hip
Friends of Mrs, Duncan Mae-
Naughton will regret to know she is
in Winghant General. Hospital with a
fractured hip, Mrs, MacNaughton fell
in her home and though 'at first it
was 'not thought to be serious later
was taken to hospital where the will
have to spend some weeks. Her many
friends will wish her a complete re-
covery;
Mrs. Gordon Gregg, Sarnia, has
spent the past two weeks with her
parents, Mr, and Mrs. Alex Wright,
wigle her husband was taking tv'vo
weeks special course at London.
Mr. and Mrs. M. S, Aikenhead` also
Miss Eleanor Wearring, all of Lon-
don, visited on Friday with D, S, and
Mrs. Ma,cNaughton,
The men of United Church are
holding a wood bee on Wednesday
afternoon on the church property
north of the church building. It's
hoped there will be a large turnout
to help.
In honour of Reverend Principal A.
H. O'Neil of Huron College and Mrs.
O'Neil, (formerly of St. James church
here) an enjoyable reception was given
recently in Toronto by Rev. J. B. M.
Armour and Mrs. Armour, Leonards
Ave.
Turnberry S. S. No. 1 held an en-
joyable dance ih the school house on
Friday evening last. There was a good
crowd present. The next social ev-
ening will be held on April 10th when
the following committee will be in
charge; Jean Robinson, Ross Gray,
Dan Cassidy,. Mrs. Robert Douglas.
Proceeds for War Work.
Mr. Bert Martin and son Mr. Bill
Martin, of Hamilton, spent the week-
end at their home here.
Mr. Weldon Hambly, who is attend-
ing Canada Business College, Toronto,
spent the week-end at his home here.
Easter Thankoffering Meeting
The Women's Missionary Society of
United Church will hold their Easter
Thankoffering meeting in the church
schoolroom on the evening of Thurs-
day, April 8th, at 8, p.m. Mrs. D. S.
MacNaughton will have charge of the
meeting. Mrs. Gilbert Howes will
give an address. Members of the C.
G.I.T. will assist and there will be
special music. All are cordially in-
vited to join with members of the W.
M:S. in this Annual Easter meeting,
Easter Service
United Church will hold special
Easter Services on .Snuday next., The
pastor, 'Rev. J, L. Foster will have
charge and the choir will assist by
musical selections. On the Sunday
following April 12th, Holy Commun-
ion will be held at the close of the
morning service.
Good Friday Service
There will be 'Good Friday service
in United Church at 11 aim Every-
one,in the community is cordially in-
vited to be present .
Young People's Union
Lultt Gibson• presided over the
weekly meeting of the Y.P.U. in the
absence a Margaret Moffat. Christ-
ian Culture Convener. The meeting
was opened by the singing of "Take
Time to be Holy". Donna Hudson
led in prayer, all repeating the Lord's
Prayer. The Scripture lesson was
taken from St. Matthewt. Gospel
chapter 16 and read by the leader, Lu-
lu Gibson. "Jesus Saviour Pilot Me",
was the second hymn. Miss Mary
MacDonald gave a very fine address
on the subject "Pilgrimage". "Lead
Kindly Light" was the closing hymn.
All joined in the Mizpah Benediction;
A period of games as usual followed
the meeting.

Red Cross Supper
The Ladies of the Red Cross Soci-
ety are serving Supper in the Red
Cross Rooms on Wednesday of this
week. Supper will be served from 5
to 7.30. Come and enjoy a good sup-
per and help the Red Cross Fund.

And Floyd Odium

Residents of this district have, no
doubt, followed with interest the car-
eers of General Victor Odium, form-

erly commander-inchief of Canada's-
Second Division in England and now
serving as British Commissioner to
Australia and his cousin, Floyd Od-
ium, Chief Economic Adviser of Don-
ald M. Nelson, head of the War Pro-
duction Board in Washington.
The grandfather of these two mem
formerly lived in Lucknow and their
grandmother was a sister'of.. the late.
George MacKenzie of Wingham and
the late R. W. MacKenzie of Goderich..
Two sons of this couple were. Prof..
Edward Odium and George Odium.
For several ,years 'George Odium.
taught school on the Division Line be-
tween East and West Wawanosh,.
north of Donnybrook. Here he be-
came acquainted with and married El-
len Anderson, sister of the late Rich-
ard and James Anderson and Alex-
ander Anderson, now residing in Tor-
onto, Moving to the U. S. he became-
a Methodist Church ,Minister and
fattier of an illustrious family one of
which was Floyd Odium.
In a recent issue of "Magazine Di-
gest" Floyd Odium attributes his abil-
ity to concentrate in the midst of con-
fusion to his father's practice of ,re-
hearsing his sermons before he family.
General Victor Odlum is a son of
Prof. Edward Odium, previously
mentioned, and in his youth he fre-
quently visited at the Anderson home-
in Wawanosh. During these visits it
was my privilege to have him as a
pupil in Donnybrook Sunday School.
