He succeeds William Leeming of McKillop' who had served for three years. The meeting, in the McKillop Township Hall, attracted a -capacity crowd. Vice' • president is Ken Duncan of Usborne and the second vice president is Ross Eedy, R.R.#1, Dungannon. 'Russel Bolton, McKillop, long time secretary-treasurer and assistant secretary-trea- surer Graeme Craig also of McKillop were returned. to office as was James Arm- strong of Wingham, as OPA representative. Members reviewed the 1978 Match held on the Campbell farms in McKillop which was regarded as one of the most successful in the long history of the associa- tion. While no decision was taken regarding a site tor the 1979 Match, the meeting expressed appreciation for an invitation from Huron Warden John Tinney of Hay Township to hold the Match in that township. The association reviewed details of the International held in September on the Armstrong and area farms at Wingham which was referred to as the most successful ever held by the Ontario Plowmen's Association. A FATAL ACCIDENT—Thomas Moore of Brussels died, as the result of this two car collision Friday on County Road 12, half a kilometre north of concession 4 and 5 in Morris Township. The driver of the other vehicle Frederick A. Watson and passengers P. Royden Harrison and Ursula Peitz of Durham suffered minor injuries. (Brussels Post Photo) 107th Year — Issue No. 52 WEDNESDAY, DECEMBER 27, WS BRUSSELS orfrka,,o:" Man killed in pre-Christmas A two car collision resulted in a holiday fatality on Friday when Thomas Geotge Moore, of Elizabeth Street in Brussels died. The crash happened on County Road 12, half a ldlometer north of concession 4 and 5 of Morris Township. The Moore vehicle, a 1972 Matador, was northbound in the southbound lane passing another northbound vehicle when Mr. Moore lost control of the vehicle and slid onto the west shoulder. Frederick Watson of R.R.3, Ayton, driving a 1976 Meteor, was southbound. OPP said he drove onto the shoulder unsuccessfully trying to avoid a collision. Passengers in the Watson vehicle were P. Reyden Harrison of R.R.4, Durham, the owner of the car, and Ursula Peitz of Durham. Mr. Watson and his two passen- gers suffered minor injuries. Mr. Moore was pronounced dead at Wingham Hospital. Estimated damage was $2,000 to the Moore vehicle and $3,000 to the front of the Harrison 'vehicle. Funeral services for the late Mr. Moore were held at the Davidson. Funeral Home in Gorrie on Wednesday with . Wesley Ball officiating. A spring interment was to follow in Wroxeter Cemetery. Member nations will be taking a critical look at the conditions under which their children are growing up. Special programs and events will be planned related to these concerns. The year of the Child should be of special interest to those in this community. This is a rural area and nowhere else is a family as closely involved in family life as those on the farm. Farming is one place where children, from an early age participate in the family business. As adults, we must all try to improve an atmosphere of love, under- standing and encouragement, whether we are parents, or farmers, or not, for the children of our community. We should strive to give children the chance to grow up in warm, freincliy surroundings. "Listen tothe children." Organizations are urged to take the opportunity to become actively involved in childrens programs. In that way we may endeavour to bequeath a better world to our Canadian children. * * * * * * Winter brings a rash of accidents that is blamed on the winter weather. The Ontario Safety League tells us that more often the real culprit, in most cases, is the driver who does not adjust to cold weather conditions. Some of the faults are too fast felt. driving conditions, abrupt turns, limited visibility, poor traction. Defensive driving and proper care of your vehicle is what is needed, Take it slow and easy from start to stop is the trick to winter driving. ****** Many of us who cannot fly away to laze away the winter under sunny skies dread the cold, ice and snow. Then there are those who have impatiently awaited just such weather - the skiers. The Canadian Ski Annual Report in winter. The skilled professionals amaze us in spectacular jumping, and at her, competitions. There are the hot sic& skier's daring performances, and cross-country skiing. The whole family, adults and children alike, can, and do, join in the winter fun of skiing. ****** My mistress went away for Christmas and left me, Sheba, here in a dog's boarding cage. How could my beloved lady do such a thing to me? There I lie hiding my head in my paws whimpering in my loveliness with no one to comfort me. Oh Iam well cared for fed, watered and let out for' runs, but that does not make up for not having her talk to the, pet and play with me. I am so lonely I cannot eat. She said she would be back soon to get me but I wonder if she really will. My master went away from home and never came back. If she does not come scion, or Unless someone else comes and gives me some loving attention I will just lie here and die of lOneliness and starvation. She told me) she Would come back with some of her grandchildren. If she does I sure will have some fun with them. Some humans think dogs have no feelings or emotions, but believe me they do. lam silently Crying. I hope, after my miserable Christmas, that I and all you folks out there have A Happy New Year. Sheba'
