ALL THE LITTLE ONES CAME OUT TO SEE SANTA — That was the
outline suggested by these three women when they came out to sit on
Santa's knee at the Royal Bank on Saturday. With Santa are Audrey
Mayer, Kathy McArter and Morla Sugg.

New
history
A new and exciting history
of the Canada Company
which is being published
Dintly by the County of Perth
nd Cumming Publishing,
S ratford, will be available in
wary 1979.
rhis covers the early story
of Guelph and Guelph Town-
ship, The Huron Tract and
scattered Crown Land lots
across Southern Ontario from
Windsor to Ottawa.
The book tells mainly the
founding of the Company in
1824, establishment of early
settlements, building The
Huron Road and the gradual
introduction of self govern-
ment which reduced the (
authority of Cr:.nada Com-
pany officials posted either in
Goderich or Toronto.
The troubles of commis-
sioners and likewise those
. of ,thei settlers which were
omplicated by poor com-
munications are set out.
In spite of complaints by,
certain settlers, The Canada
Companiy was one of the
Most succesSful Settlement
companies to operate in
Canada and was, largely it
reponsible for the dramatic
increase in immigration fol-
lowing the Rebellion of 1837.
The story of the Canada
Company was written by'
Thelma Coleman, a freelance
author, who lives in Strat-
ford. The text was written in'
1973-74 for the Perth County
Historical Board and during
1978, the 125th anniversary
of Perth tountyi it ,was:

Best Wishes for Christmas
Time goes by and customs.
Change with every century,
But still we keep the
festival of Nativity.
Nothing dims the. Christmas
glory,
as in days of old
The some great words are
spoken, •
and the same sweet story
told.
******
In this festival season of
family gatherings, partying,
and all the hustle and bustle,
of Christmas, we sometimes
lose sight of the true origin of
Christmas joy. It is not the
happy family reunions or the
children's Santa Claus. It is
the birth of the Babe of
Bethlehem. "Joy to the
World, the Lord has come!"
******
In this time of happiness
spare a thought and a
greeting for those not as
fortunate as we. Remember
the lonely ones who have no
family of their own.
******
This year I am off for a
week to spend Christmas
with 'my son David and his
wife Louise and sons Michael
and Mark in ,Mississauga. It
'takes young children around
you to enjoy the excitement
of Christmas. To see their
eyes sparkle with expectation
as they early tumble from.
bed to gaze, with eager
delight, at the gaily wrapped
gifts under the tree, will help
to dispel the shadow of
loneliness for the family
member who is no longer
with us. Son Robert and his
family of Ottawa will join us
later in the week. With my
family . around me I look
forward to a happy holiday.

It takes the opportunity' to
enjoy a bountiful, dinner and
the pleasure of a dance to
bring out a crowd. The
B.B.A. Christmas Dinner
and Dance did just that. It
kept the ladies of the
Brussels Legion Auxiliary
jumping to serve the 160
plates of the excellent meal,
they provided.

Do not yourself, or have
your guests, end up in
hospital or funeral home, this
festive season, TheThntario
Safety League offers these
suggestions to escape such a
fate in the wake of holiday
partying: It takes the body
about one hour to eliminate
the alcohol in one drink, the,
one-for-one rule works—one
drink an hour, or one hour
before driving for each dring.
An ounce per drink—ho
doubles. Stop serving drinks
one hour before guests are
expected to leave. Have
coffee ready, not because it
will sober anyone up, but
because it will hold guests a
little longer. Time is the only
factor in getting rid of
alcohol. If a guest drinks too
much see that someone else
does the driving. If you are a
guest and have had too much
get someone else to drive you
home.
