Mrs. Clare Veitch, ,the leader opened the meeting with a poem "The Waters of Galilee". Following the Remembrance day theme Psalm 46 was read inunison and other parts of scripture were, from 1st John and Matthew. Mrs. • Veitch gave meditations on each and read a poem by Rev. Goodman. Mrs. Fred Smith contributed a reading on "Prayer". Mrs. Wilfred Stri .ckler gave the topic on "Stones for Remembrance" based on Joshua 4. She showed a number of stones collected from trips and told things of interest connected with each. The business was conducted by the president, Mrs. Stuart Stevenson. Mrs. Vanass read the minutes and correspondence and Mrs. Veitch gave the treasurer's report and is hopeful that our allocation for 1978 will be met. Mrs. John A. Perrie, Glad Tidings secretary reported 100 subscriptions for 1979. Mrs.;Stanley Fischer recorded 6 cards and 8 visits. The roll call was a verse on "remembrance". A quilting was planned and it was announced that the fireman's banquet has been changed to November 24th. Election of officers was held and the following is the slate for 1979. President-Mrs. Stuart Stevenson, Vice-PrespMrs. Strickler, Secretary-Mrs. Jack Knight, Assistant-Mrs. Earl Dunn, Treasurer-Mrs. Veitch, Friendship and service-Mrs. Stanley Fischer, Literature-Mrs. Gordon Engel, Glad Tidings-Mrs. J.A. Perrie, Auditors-Mrs. Leslie Knight and Mrs. G. Engel, Press reporter-Mrs. Mac Engel, supply-Mrs. Minn, pianists-Mrs. Stewart Steiss and Mrs. L. Knight. Mrs. Jack Knight gave, a reading entitled "Gracious Care" followed by singing "The Queen" and the Mikzpah Benediction. Mrs. Fred Smith and Mrs. Veitch assisted the hostess in serving lunch. Mrs. Howard Cotton of Shelbourne spent a week with Mr. and Mrs. Don Cotton. Angus Starr of Alliston also visited for several days at the same home. Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Adams, Atwood, and Mr. and Mrs. Nelson Shelkey, Richmond Hill, visited Mr. and Mrs. Wilfred Strickler. Cranbrook W.I. met at the Cranbrook -Community Hall with Mrs. L. Knight pre- siding. Thirty guests from Walton, Ethel, Fordwich, Mon .crief, and. Brussels Majestic W.I.'s were we; lcomed. An invitation to the 4-H Achievement Day Sat., Dec. 2, at 9:15 a.m. at the Grey Central Public School was read. Town and Country Homemakers told members ' in Clinton for Nov. 18. Mrs. Cox made a motion that we cater to a wedding supper for March 3, 1979 at Atwood. This was seconded by Mrs. Baker and was carried. Mrs.d L. Knight, Mrs. Workman, and Mrs. F. Smith volunteered to prepare a program for the November Birthday Party at the Brus- sels Nursing Home. Mrs. Van Donkersgoed and Mrs. Veitch volunteered to make cup cakes. The motto - Great events take place in the world today was combined with current events and was presented by Mrs. Veitch. Mrs. Veitch's topics were on the induction of the pope and papal reign, also on Canadian Unity. A letter and petition from the Catholic Women's League trying to persuade Quebecois members to remain as part of Canada was presented. This petition is to be returned to Brussels by Dec. 9, 1978. Mrs. Engel introduced. Mrs. Marie McGavin who delighted everyone with slide encouters of a recent trip to Costa Rica. Mrs. Workman thanked Mrs. McGavin. A short contest was fol- lowed by lunch being served by Mrs. Hart, Mrs. Cox, Mrs. Ezewski, Mrs. Van Donkersgoed, and Mrs. Lefor. THE BRUSSELS POST, NOVEMBER 1.5, 1978 13
