THE BRUSSELS POST, NOVEMBER 8, 1978 — 9 Grey Township council
ED KRAUTER
Ed Krauter has no past
political experience but says
he chose to run for a seat on
Grey Tonwship council this
time because, "there's been
too many acclamationi in the'
past."
"I feel that in general we
have overlooked the import-
ance of municipal or town-
ship councils and so I feel that
if municipal matters are not •
in local control anymore, it's
only because we didn't pay
enough attention."
As to his wanting the job
he says, "The only reason I
want the job is that I fell that
nothing will ever happen if 1
you just sit back and. comp-
lain about it, but don't offer
to do anything about 'it
'
And to him the main issue
in the municipality is that
"Hopefully we might regain
a small amount of 'control
because the government is
supposed to be for the
people, by the people. I
would like to feel that the
incoming council would be
prepared to listen more
closely than ever before to
the needs of the township,"
he said.
Mr. Krauter farms 500
acres and also does custom
farm machinery work. He
has lived in. Grey Township
'most of his life and he and
his wife have three children.
JOHN GILLIS
John Gillis, a Grey Town-
ship councillor for the past
two years) chose to run for a
seat on council because he
would like to learn more
about the township, meet
with the people and help plan
its future.
"I feel that I can Con-.
'tribute my, suggestions and
knowledge from the past two
years on council to plan for
the future and help solve any
problems which arise." he
said.
He thinks the important
issues facing the muncipality
are the drainage systems
throughout the township a-
long with the control of
weeds on the roadsides and
the proposal of building up
roads.
He is married to Patricia
Ann.
LYLE PETTAPIECE
Lyle Pettapiece who, is
trying for a Grey Township
Council seat said he decided
to run for council because
some neighbours asked him
to.
He is concerned about
foreign investment and non-
residential ownership of farm
land.
"It's gotten to be quite a
concern in other townships
and I'm afraid it's spreading
to Grey Township. It's put-
ting us local people at a
standstill. We can't compete
' with them buying this land,"
he, said.
This is his first try at
municipal politics. He has
served on the Federation of
Agriculture as a local
director and on the Huron
County Milk Committee
Board.
He is married, and has five
children--four boys and a
girl. He has 300 acres of land
and operates a dairy farm
with the help of one of his
children. All the rest of his
children work outside the
home.
'councillor for four years
(decided to run again because
Isom people encouraged(him
to.
He would like the job of
Icouncillor because, "Ilt `s
pcind of interesting work Once
S/ou get started.."
He said there's not really
any big issues facing the
municipality, `lust keeping
:things running on an eco-
nomical basis."
"We need to build some
;bridges, that's one thing that
has to be done. Some roads
were widened this year and
sonic more roads need to be
built up," he added.
He has lived all .of his life
in Grey Township where he
is a farmer. He has a wife.
Leona and two children—a
boy and a girl.

HAROLD BRIDGE
ROSS PROCTER
Ross Procter has been a
Morris Township councillor
for two years and agreed to
run again when asked be-
cause he believes, "a sensit-
ive, efficient council is a vital
link in our system of govern-
ment."
He thinks one of the main
issues facing the municipal-
ity in the next two years is,
"Getting our money's worth
from our tax dollars. Good
money management is always
important, but with the pre-,
sent financial climate in
Canada, financial• responsib-
ility is vital."
He also believes council
should use common sense
with people oriented consid-
erations and decisions instead
of an impersonal, rigid, rule
book like approach to, "our
communities problems and
opportunities."
Mr. Procter was born
August 28, 1927 on the third
line of Morris Township. He
attended Stone School,
Wingham High School, and
the Ontario Agricultural Col-
lege in Guelph. He worked
for 17 years as a feed
salesman and is presently a
partner in the Bodmin Lim-
ited farm on the fourth line of
Morris. He and his wife
Mary have five children.
Clare Van Camp was ac-
aimed as a new councillor
of Morris Township and is ,
looking forward to serving
the public for the next two
years. He says he will do his
best for the ratepayers of
Morris Township.
He chose to accept the
council seat he says because,
"1 think Local Government is'
best and if interest is not
shown it 'will soon dis-
appear."
He also says that as he has
his family farming with him
he would like to see family
farms kept together.
CLARE VAN CAMP
BOB GRASBY
Bob Grasby who has
served on the Morris Town-
ship Council for the past 11
years says it has been an
honour and a privilege to do
so and hopes with the
experience he has gained to
be better able to serve the
ratepayers of the township.
He says he will do this to the
best of his ability.
The main job facing the
municipal 'council he says
will be -to provide the best
roads, bridges, drains, and
other services with the funds
available.
He has lived and farmed in
Morris Township all his life
and has been an active
member of several agricult-
ural organizations. He is
married and he and his wife,
have two daughters.
