Of his reason for wanting the job he says, "I would like to see more leadership and progress. HaYing lived here most of my life, I 'am , interested in the village and everyone it it, Foreseeing some of the needs of the future, I would like to see some industry here to pro- vide more jobs for our, working class. A large number of Brussel citizens have to drive miles to work every day. More job opportunities mean more - new homes, and more business for our stores," he said. He thinks one of the main sisues facing the municipal- ity in the next two years will be the sewers which are scheduled to start next year. "Having worked on con- struction work for 22 years, I feel ,I have had a great deal of experience with, and under- standing of their need and also the problems that we will be facing. I feel that this knowledge will be an asset at this time in our municipality, he said. Mr. Pletch has served on Brussels council for two years. He is a construction foreman with E&E Seeg- miller Ltd. of Kitchener and has been with them for 12 years. For 10 years prior to this he worked with another construction firm and the County of Huron, along with operating a farm., He and his wife Edna, who is employed at the Canadian Imperial Bank of Commerce, have been married for 29 years and have a family of four - two sons and two daughters. CAL KRAUTER Cal Krauter, the current reeve Vrf Brussels has had a lot of experience in politics including holding the pbsition of councillor and reeve for a number of years. He is also a past warden of Huron County and ha ..s been on the.,DC Commission as well, He decided to again run as reeve because, "I wanted to finish the job I started and because the sewers were coming in, I considered it • needed an experienced man to check on it, and to help the village progrO's.:" "Wcfte doing our best to get some industry into the village and still make it a nice place' to live and the prettiest village in Ontario, " he said of the main issues facing the village. He is married and has two children, a son and a daughter. GORDON WORKMAN ,Gordon Workman has re- sided,in Brussels all his life and his priorities for council include more in- dustry which would provide' employment and bring business to the village. ELIZABETH GRABER Elizabeth Graber who is taking her first stab at running for a council position says she chose to run for Brussels council because "K t, genuine concern for the future of Brussels would be the main reason for myis wanting the job-of councilloi, As the wife of a businessman and mother of two small boys, the future years of Brussels concern me; and so I hope to do my part to make it a good place to live by seeking one of the council seats." To her, the smooth and efficient initiation of. the sewage program will be main part of the council 'work as well as the business of operating the town as effect- ively as possible. She is married to Carl Graber who owns an auto body repair shop in Brussels and is the mother of two children. She is also a registered nurse who trained at St. Joseph's Hospital in Guelph and worked in List- owel Memorial Hospital from 1970 to 1975. FRANK STRETTON Frank Stretton is running for election as a councillor in Brussels. Mr. Stretton, a public school teacher for six years, ,has served on council for two and a half years in the past. During that time he served on the recreation, finance and protection to people and property committees. Mr. Stretton has also been involved in a number of community activites. in the past including minor hockey, the atom hockey tournament, the recreation committee and the campaign for the new community centre. He said he has enjoyed serving on council in the past , and is running for office again since he is interested in, the progress of the village. He said. the main issue in the next two years will be maintaining a high level of services for the, residents of the municipality yet holding', the mill rate during this period of economic un- certainty. MALCOLM JACOBS Brussels • councillor Malcolm Jacobs decided to run again for council so he could finish the, job he started of relighting the village in places where it is needed, to help get small industries into the village which he believes would be a' help to all in the village and to continue to see a fair deal for all in the village regard- less of name or religion. He thinks that the main issue facing,thevillage in the next two years would-be the sewers if they came. Mr. Jacobs who has been on Brussels council for 'two years has also belonged to different clubs and numerous community projects over the years. He worked for North York Hydro and Godcrich Hydro for over 12 years and obtained his papers as a lineman. He is now a self- employed Harness Maker by trade in the village, is married and has three children. George Cousins took a position , on Brussels council last year following the' resig- nation of a, councillor. He chose to run for council GEORGE COUSINS project is a must, so when it comes, it comes, there is nothing we can do. We are not the only village with this problem, there are others not very far away. Now if this is the case, \ then the council should help and try to control as much as possible for the taxpayer," he says, Mr, Cousings has lived most of his life in. Brussels.
