Morris defers decision
on Pled, subdivision
BY DEBBIE RANNEY
Morris Township. held a meeting
Monday night to. discuss the Pletch
subdivision in Belgrave and an agreement
they had made with developer Sam Pletch.
At a meeting of Morris Townsip held last
year the council was supposed to have
signed an agreement saying they would
accept eight lots in the subdivision as a
guarantee until the subdivision was
completed. But at Monday night's meeting
the developer wanted to change the
agreement so he would be responsbile for
the maintenance of the lots till one year after
completion but with the township having a
lesser number of lots.
q Mr, Pletch also wanted the township to
accept a deed on subdivision roads. His.
lawyer Bob Campbell later said he would
accept a motion to. pass the by-law to accept
the lots.
Morris council however wanted more
information on where they stood legally and.
an engineer's estimate of cost and they also.
wanted to see a copy of the original. signed
agreement which 'they couldn't remember
signing. Council decided to defer decisions
until the next regular council meting.
meeting.

and don't come back for
three months.
Why disappear this way?
First, to minimize the
effects of the publicity --
which you can't totally
avoid -- with its attendant
temptations and dangers.
When you win a million,
not only beggars and crack-
pots will flock to your door,
but also a small army, of
salesmen, advisers, invest-
ment counsellors, prospec-
tive entrepreneurs in need
of capital, along with well-
meaning people collecting
money for various charities.
And don't forget extortion-
ists -- people have been
kidnapped for much less
than a million.
Second, the vacation
allows you time to get
used to being wealthy, and
to decide how you want to
permit the money to change
your life. 'And while you
avoid doing anything rash,
the interest on your fortune
will pay for your vacation.
When you return home,
you should seek the best
possible professional ad-
vice. Managing a million
can' be tricky, so enlist
the services of a chartered
accountant, a lawyer, or
the manager of your bank
or trust company.
Expect the money to
change your life -- but don't
expect it to solve all your
problems. In fact, a million
dollars will create some
new and unfamiliar prob-
lems for you. The trick is to
let the windfall change your
life slowly, in ways that you
can control.

It's a problem we'd all
like to face: What would
you really do if you won a
million dollar lottery?
Not with the money --
those possibilities are
endless -- but with your
life? How would you react
a the instant your number
came up on the television
screen, immediately after-
ward, and over the next few
days and weeks?
Would you phone all your
friends with the good
news? Run into the nearest
bar and buy drinks all
'round? Throw a party? Go
on a wild spending spree?
My advice is don't!
Swallow that urge to pro-
claim your good fortune to
the world. Don't tell a soul
outside your immediate
family until you have gone
to the lottery office, picked

• up the cheque and depos-
ited it in the bank. And
I'd get there as quickly as
possible -- the moment the
office opened in the morn-
ing. If I lived in South
Porcupine or Wawa I'd hop
on the first train, plans ,or
bus, but I'd get there. That
million earns $250 per day
in interest, so any delay will
immediately cost you
money.
My next piece of advice
would be this: First, pay
off all your immediate
debts, particularly your
mortgage. Then put all the
rest of the money, except
for $10,000, into a six-
month guaranteed term
deposit with your bank.
Now, with your $10,000,
your family and your
suntan oil, take off to a
luxury resort. Don't tell
anyone except your closest
friend, or perhaps your
lawyer, where you're going
