Things are shaping up and an election for
both reeve and councillor positions seems
likely in. Brussels. •
Reeve Cal Krauter is being challenged for
the position of reeve by current council
member Tom Pletch.
In a phone interview Monday, Reeve
Krauter said if he got in again he would be,
"trying to think of 1,000 people in the village
not just a selected few, " and trying to watch ,
the tax roll which lye always done"
"I'm running on my record. I'm also on
the road commitee in county council. I'm
only halfway there-I would like to finish it. I
enjoy municipal work, I've had considerable
experience," he said.
Also in an interview Monday, Tom Pletch
said he was running for reeve because, "I
like the village. I think I'd like to lead. I think
we can make it a better place to live." He
said he had some spare time with his
company that he could devote to the village.
Councillor Pletch has been on council for
one term and said -if he got elected, he would
like to talk over .any plans he might have for
the village with the new council first.
Brussels is also having some competition
for the four council positions. Councillors
Malcolm Jacobs, George Jutzi and. George
Cousins are seeking re-election and
Elizabeth Graber, Gordon Workman, and a
former Brussels .councillor Frank Stretton
are also trying for council seats.
Harold Bridge and Henry Exel are seeking
re-election to the PUC and William Smith
has also put his name in for a PUC position.
In Morris Township, Bill Elston is once
again running for the position of reeve but is
facing competition from current council
member Sam Pletch.
Reeve Elston has been a member of
council for about 12 years and reeve of the
township for 10. Asked his reason for
seeking re-election, he said. "I'd like to see
our secondary plan in, force. We have some
road programs that we have to get done.
especially Martens bridge."
"Just to see everything go along smoothly"
he said.
Councillor Pletch who has been on council
for four years also said he'd like to see
something done on the official plan. "If
there happens to be an election, I would like
to see a clean election."
He said he would like to see the bridges
going in, the roads cleaned up and the
subdivision in Belgrave completed.

The Mail strike continues. By at,
appearance it will go on for sometime. When
labor leaders, have the audacity to order the
members of their union to disobey a court
order to return to work and get away with
such action, it is a seriour state of affairs.
The union leader has stated he will keep
the post office workers out even if he has to
go to jail for it.
We fell that a good many of those who are
out are ready and willing to go back but are a
afraid of what the more militant of the
strikers would do to strike breakers.
OUr impression is that many of those on
strike are smart enough to'realize that they
are fortunate to have a job to go back to.
Many o thers out fo work would be happy to
take their place on the job at even minimum
wage. They must be aware of the trouble
they are cuasing business and industry as
well as inconvenience to all.
They are attracting to themselves a great
deal of criticism, ill-feeling and lack of
sympathy for their problems when they
Meekly submit to the dictatorship of greedy
labour leaders.

This Saturday night, or in the early
hours of Sunday morning, we go back to
Standard Time. Turn back your time pieces
one hour before you go to bed. Saturday
night. Most folks will welcome that extra
hour of sleep. Sunday morning, if the time
piece in their brain adjusts that quickly to
the change. Unfortunately mine will not. It
will awaken me anywhere between five and
six a.m. instead of between six and seven
a.m. The minute that. I stir Sheba (my dog)
Wantt out so there goes My extra morning
hour of sleep. Almost certainly ten p.m. will
find me alseep in an easy chair with an open
book in my hand. Theh I have to wake up for
the late news pins a last drink (coffee of

A bird Must have been terribly confused
about the season of the year: Mrs, Margaret
McCutelieoti last week found a bird's, egg on
the deck at the back of their apartment above
McCutcheon's Grocery. The egg was a
perfectly normal one, probably that of a
sparrow. It was not one blown from an Old
nest. It was intact and appeared to have
been laid very recently. Is not this a rare
occurence? Have you seen a bird's egg laid
at this time of year? Mrs. McCutcheon has a
coloured picutre of the egg to prove that she
was not seeing something that was riot
there.

Sports fans have been having a bonanza
of sports for viewing on their T.V. Screeng.
thse past weeks. Now the World series fever
is over we have the last weeks of the battles
on the football fields leading up to the final
great Spectacle of the Grey Cup game,
Hockey is already with us until the
springtime. All this I thoroughly enjoy as an
arm chair fan. My sympathy to the wives
who loath sports while their husband sit with
their eyes glued on the T.V. Personally I muc
much prefer the sports broadcasts to the
trivial trash that clutters tip the screen and is
neither entertaining, informative or
interesting.

Brussels council met with Morris and Grey
Township councils Wednesday night to
discuss an arrangment regarding 'the
townships' share of any deficit that might
arise in the senior citizens' apartment
building in Brussels.
At Wednesday night's meeting Brussels
council was concerned whether Morris and
Grey Township would still be paying their
fair share of the operating deficit of the
building now that they contribute to the
county wide housing authority instead of to
Brussels which has not joined the county
system.
Reeve Cal Krauter said he wanted some
sort of guarantee that if the county didn't
reimburse Brussels to the amount named in
an agreement with Morris and Grey that the
two townships would' make up the differ-
ence.
Morris Township councillor Ross Procter
asked if the county paid more to Brussels
than was necessary, Brussels would distri-
bute that amount equally among the
townships. Brussels council agreed to do
this.
Morris Township reeve Bill Elston said, "I
think the way things work is if we pay $800 to
Goderich but owed $1000 you would get
$1000 but we still only have to -pay $800."
It was then suggested that an agreement
for payment could be drawn up with the
percentages of payment on a per capita basis,
Both Morris and Grey went along with the
suggestion that if the county didn't make up
their share of the deficit they would pay the
rest of what they owed.
Brussels then discussed with Grey Town-
ship the problems with drainage on Burgess
Street.
"As far as we're concerned we won't go
for a municipal drain either. We thought we
