Imp MeGAYIN Fred. • MeGa.yin, of Seaforth . died Friday at ..Huronview„ Clinton, He was in his 96th year. Born in Carberry, . Manitoba,. Sept. 4, 1882. He came to Seaforth in 1904. He was a carpenter by trade .and during his many years of employment had a hand in the con- struction of a number of area buildings including the Canadian Bank of Com- merce and the addition to •the First Presbyterian Church. For some years he worked for Hydro in ithe Guelph area and was em- ployed on the construction of C.F.R. Station on the Guelph, Goderich line. For a number of years prior to his retirement he carried on a delivery service in Seaforth. He was a member of St. Thomas Anglican Church. His 90th birthday was celebrated in September 1972 at the residence of Mr. James T. Scott where he resided when many friends called tocongratulate him. Most active despite his years he was a familiar figure on Main Street during his daily walk until he moved to Huronview in September of last year. Surviving are several nieces and nephews. Friendsjwere received 'at the R.S. Box Funeral Home Seaforth, on Sunday. Funeral service was held at St Thomas Church Mon- day at 2 p.m. with the. Rev. James Broadfoot of- ficiating. Burial was at Maitlandbank Cemetery. Pallbearers were; Wil- liam Smith, Gordon Scott, Neil McGavin, George Hays, Earl Montgomery and W.J. Leeming. MRS. W. C. MONTGOMERY Bessie Montgomery, 77, of 119 Main Street, North, Seaforth, died July 22, 1978 at Seaforth community Hospital. Born in Huron 'County she was a daughter of the late Joshua Snider and Matilda Troyer. She was a -member of the Church of God. In 1932 she married Clarence Montgomery in ' Brantford. The couple came to live in Kinburn in 1937 and retired to Seaforth in , 1961. Surviving besides• the husband are a daughter Mrs. Gordon (Joy) Heiser of Indiana, two sons, Glenn of R. R. #1, Belgrave and , Lyle of Clinton; two nieces, (Continued on Page 1\6A .) WEDDING ANNIVERSARY—William Embling, Sunday School superintendent at Bethel Bible Church, Egmondville, presents Rev. A. R. and Carrrteta Yielding with a gift from the congregation at the Yieldings' 50th anniversary celebrations. MARRIED SO YEARS — Rev. A. R. Yielding. pastor of Bethel Bible Church, Egmondville and his wife Carmeta were honored by members of the church last. Saturday on the occasion of their 50th wedding anniversary. The Yieldings residein Stratford, but Rev. Yielding has been pastor at the Bethel Bible Church for the past five years. The couple were married in 1928 in Toronto where Rev. Yielding begaii his career in the ministry at Victoria Park Gospel Church in Toronto, from 1935 to 1948. From 1948 to 1963, he was minister of Grace Church, Newmarket and then pastor of Faith Bible Church in Stratford from 1963 to 1973. Rev. Yielding celebrated his 75th birthday in July. The Yieldings have three children - Paul of Stratford and Jean and Phillip of Toronto, 14 grandchildren and one great grandson. Guests at the dinner, prepared by the ladies of Bethel Bible Church, included Rev. Ray Erickson of Kingston, master of cermonies and Rev. Bill Sifft, past-president of the Associated Gospel Churches of Canada. Guests attended the anniversary celebration from Agincourt, Toronto, Newmarket, Stratford, King City and Kinston as well as the local area. Rev. Yielding said he has no plans to retire and . Fred Meadows was an outstanding athlete, and had a unique method of training for the five mile foot races at which he excelled. He was assisted in his road work oby a harness horse! James Hillis of Guelph was famous in his own way as an Owner and driver of fast trotters, and raced throughout the province. Every morning the two potential champions could be seen as they paced eaeh other doVin the country roads near Guelph, Ontario. One, the fast trotter, and the other the foot-racer; each working to condition wind and limb for future contests. Meadows swept all local competitions, and won two five mile races on one Thanksgiving day, an unequalled feat. He competed in the Olyrripic Games "Of 1908 in England, and went on to become world's champion as a profeStional.
