THE BRUSSELS POST, JULY 12:1978• —
Bombers beat spouses at ball
Towns in Huron County will be
honored at the Clinton Kinsmen
Raceway this summer, in a move
by the ra.eetrack to renew friend,
ships with the towns, and thank
the thousands of local horsemen
and fans that support the harness
racing
The towns will be honored at
the "B" track's special twilight
race meet, the only twilight
meet in Ontario, during three
ThurSdays in July,
The testimonial nights will start
Good
crowd
There was a good attendance at
the Rose and Craft Show and
Bake Sale held at the Brussels
Library on Wednesday of last
week.
The overall winner for her roses
was Mrs. Lottie McCutcheon with
11 points who won a coffee spoon.
Other winners were Mrs. Gerald
Gibson with 10 points, Mrs.
Wilbur Turnbull 10 points, and
Mrs. Wm. Dobson, Ethel with 9
points.
The bake table was well filled
and well patronized.
Mr. A. Knight, Mrs. G. Bolger,
Mrs. .I McLarty and Mrs. E.
Cudrnore showed a number of
crafts.
Off on Thursday, July 13, when
the citizens, of the Exeter, area will
be honored during the ten-race,
fu;iy • parimutuel licensed race
card.
Exeter horseman, Tom
Yearley,..82, one of the pioneers, in
harnesS racing in southwestern
Ontario, will be honored at a
special trackside ceremony, and
thefeature race of the night is the

Mr. Yearley, even though he is

great interest in stan.dardbred
racing after a career that has
spanned six decades.

anything. He thinks he's still at
McDonald's throwing out ham-
burgs.
Then they had an import from
the city--Barrie "Whiskers" Cur-
rie. He's not much better, he got
tangled up in his beard, Next was
John "Furnace" Pennington--he
thought he was still cleaning up
furnaces.
Coach Muzz tried to help out
the •men but he was so busy
smoking and coaching that the
pitcher had 3 balls by him before
he knew what was happening.
George "Curlie Fingers"
Langlois popped 3 fly balls out to
our terrific fielders, No sweat
there. Not even their pitcher,
bellowing Lowe could pull the
team together even pitching at 30
feet so he could reach the plate.
Behind the plate trying to unip
was "trip along" Barb. She did a
terrific job even if we had to pay
her to make the right calls.
So after a score of 17-2, the
girls took pity on the men and
retired the game so they could get
their wind back at a barbeque and
swim at Langlois sunken pool
with the foiling deck. A good day
was had by all but it will be a long
time before the boys will chal-
lenge the girls again.
Next game for the girls will be
Wednesday against Sebringville
in town, Royal Jerry better be
there with his popcorn and
peanuts or else Mary Lowe still
take over. She's back and in quiet
voice and Jerry will be demoted to
bat boy after the team shows him
what the bat looks like.
