An excellent atendance and a
lively discussion, (even loud' at
times) added greatly to the
interest of the W.M.S. meeting
held at the home of Mrs. William
Mundell. The theme, Mother's
Day, influenced President Mrs.
Glenn Golley in her choice of a
poem entitled, "Mother's Love"
as her call to worship.
She declared that a mother's
greatest joy is her child and its
care, administering love, comfort
and safety while striving to create
a Christian home as she uses the
father's provisions wisely.
Mother should be a good listener,
respeCting the child's
possessions, and giving him a
sense of belonging to the family
unit, yet allovVing him to try his
own wings at new things, she
said. A good mother is self-sacri-
ficing, but demands respect, and
administers punishment when
necessary.
Marriage and motherhood are '
perhaps woman's greatest
fulfillment, she said. Her crown is
her children, her joy is their
goodness, her pride is their love
of the Saviour. Mrs. Alex
MacTavish offered prayer.
The topic which ignited a
vociferous response, was taken by
Mrs. Harry Elliott from the study
packet "Local Church in God's
Ivfission", lesson two. This is an
investigation of the "Community
of the People of God" in the Old
Testament. She told the group
that Israel, as a nation and
community,; was born through the
Red Sea ekkerierice.' For the first
time, the scattered people, now
Israel, were convinced that God
had redeenigd them. They were
his community.
The people were Hebrew
beginning with Abraham and his
descendants, to which others
were added. They were ordinary,
obscure people with a special task
for God. The first responsibility
was to learn of him, to know the
Law of Moses and the ground
rules of belonging to his
community, primarily religious
rites and forms of worhsip.
But through the year it failed
and they began worshipping idols
and deserting the Mosaic Law.
Thus it was brought to an end in
order to' begin anew under God's
creative power. The question was
asked: Is this' the state of the
church today?
Should we be thanking. God for
the failure of our religious
community and congregation in
order to take spiritual- stock and
begin anew? Basic issues will not
change much but our methods of
meeting them must change,
members heard. Without any
discrimination, the church must
reach out; to Christians and
non-Christians alike through a
program of preaching, healing,
