(Brussels Post Photo) E. Wawanosh farmers • , Want Federation to be more aggressive East Wawanosh farmers feel that the Ontario Federation of Agriculture should be more aggressive and that they, the farmers, should work closer with the federation in order to have a stronger say in the plight of the farmer. This was pointed out in a survey released recently at the Federation office in. Vanastra. The survey of 115 'farmers is the first of its, kind to be done in East Wawanosh, said Walter • Elliott, president of the Township federation which conducted it. Many of the farmers questioned felt that the OFA was taking the. right .step in protecting , the farmer--fiS" ',voted yes, 45 answered that the OFA be more aggressive. Of the farmers who answered the question about whether productions quotas are needed for commodities, 31 were in favour and 77 opposed.. Only one beef farmer favoured beef controls while 37 were opposed. However, 21 milk producers--who have production controls--favoured quotas while only 'two were opposed. Most of those surveyed also opposed the proposed change in property taxation which would have the province legislating _farmland and buildings as tax free and paying the municipalities a grant in lieu of taxes from the land exempt. The farmer would pay for his house and about an acre of land based on a market value assessment. The farmers prefer keeping the current systeM, under which the govern- ment. rebates half of their tax payment. The survey also shows 92 of.the farmers support efforts by the Ontario Federation of Agriculture to challenge , tariffs that are unfavourable to Canadian producers. Bill Crawford, Field secretary, with the Huron „County Federation of Agriculture Office in Vanastra said about seven similar surveys were done last year and many of the concerns were the same. ...for lawns and vegetable gardens Pius - 2: by Scott We also lend out spreader with purchase of fertilizer.
