Wees win Young Canada
If you were awakened on Friday
night by a lot of noise, it was just
the jubilant Pee Wees getting a
ride down town on the firetruck,
For the first time in the 29 years
of operation of the Goderich Lions
Young Canada Week, the
Novice win
The local Novice team added
another trophy to their collection
on Tuesday night when they
defeated Seaforth 4,.3 in, a close
game to win the series 3 games
straight. Marty Rutledge and
Dean Wheeler scored 2 goals
each with Marty getting 1 assist,
to win the game. They also were
treated to a ride down town on the
tire truck. Good work boys.
The local Atom team partici-
pated , in the W.O.A.A.
Tournament of Champions in
Lucknow on Saturday. Their first
game was against Lion's Head
the "E" Champions. Brussels
won 14-0. Goal scorers were .
Kevin. McArter 3, David Wheeler
3, Dean Wheeler 2, Kevin
Johnston 2, Rick Knight, Marty
Rutledge, Sean Kieffer, Tim Fritz
I each. Assists went to Mike
Vader, Dean Wheeler, Kevin

Their secon dgame was against
the "B" Champions Goderich. In
:in excellent game of hockey, the
nome team lost by a narrow 3-2
score. All the scoring was done in
the first and second periods.
Brussels' goals were scored by
Tim Fritz from Kevin Mc.Arter
and Kevin McArter unassisted.
On Wednesday night in'
consolation playoffs the Bantam
team defeated Drayton 9-1.
Bantams play
in Harriston
The local Bantam team partici-
pated in the annual Bantam
tournament held in Harriston, on
Tuesday. They played 3 games
that day in the round robin series.
Their first game was against
Paisley whom they defeated 5-3.
Goal scorers were Les Black,
Mike Watson, Ken Higgins, Paul
Johnson, , Ken Cousins. 'Assists
went to Kevin Bishop, Ken
Higgins, Doug McArter, Todd
Wheeler, Brian Tenpas, Ken
Cousins, Kevin Deitner.
Their second game in the
afternoon was played against
Howich. They came through with
a 3-2 win. Brian Tenpas, Paul
Johnston and Ken Higgins were
the Brussels scorers. Assists went
to Paul Johnston, Ken Cousins,
Brian Tenpas.
Their third game at 7:00 was
against Tiverton. Brussels led 1-0
at the end of the first with no
goals scored in the second.

early in the, third but Brussels
:ante back with a goal to tie the
;core. They couldn't hold on and
'Tiverton scored the winning goalin
the last minutes of the game
Brussels returned to Harriston
on Thursday to play Tiverton.
They were defeated 3-0. The boys
had the opportunities to score
butjust could not beat the
Tiverton "goalie. You put up a
good showing boys. Those boys

Brussels Pee Wees came home as
Grand Champions of the "D"
division of the tournament,
Their first game of the tourna-
ment was played On Saturday,
March 18 at S;10 in the morning
against Zurich.. At one point in
Scoring for Brussels ,was Todd.
Wheeler 2, Ken Higgins 2, Paul
Johnston, Ken Cousin, Brian
Tenpas, Steve Knight, Mike.
Watson. Assists went to kevin
Dietner, Todd WHeeler, Kevin
Bishop, Paul Johnston, Les Black,
Brian Tenpis, Ken Cousins.
The Brussels. Novice.tearn took
part in the Listowel Novice C
tournament on Thursday when
they won the C Championstiip by
the. game they were trailing 3-0
but came back to win 4-3, 'Peter
Bennett assisted by Danny
Achilles scored the first goal.
Doug Shaw got the second,
unassisted, Brian Wheeler scored
the third from Paul _Machan and
defeating MIlverton 7-1.
Point Edward 10-2 and finally
beating Point Edward in the
championship game 7-4.
scorers were over the three
games: Dean Wheeler with 15
goals, Marty Rutledge 7 goals,
and 5 assists, Dwayne Achilles I
goal and 2 assists, and Mark
Pennington 1 goal. Other assists
went to Bruce 'Johnston, Gary
Martin, Dean Nicholson and
Steven Wheeler.

Later in the day,, they played
their second game against
Tbedford and won it in overtime
3-2. Darrin Watts scored the first
two goals assisted by Rob Cardiff
on the first and Danny Achilles on
the second, Danny • Achilles
scored the winning goal in
overtime unassisted.
The team returned to Goderich
on Good Friday afternoon to play
their third game of the tourna-
ment against a team from'
Langton. Once 'more they came
up with a tie game and had to paly
overtime to win 2-1. Robbie
Cardiff scored the first goal with.
Paul Machan getting the overtime
goal. Assists were not available.
This win put them into the
Championship game at 9 p.m.
The Championship game
nlaved at 9:30 at night ended with
the opposition being ,Blyth, Brian.
Wheeler assisted by Dean
Rutledge scored the first goal of
the game. It remained, 1M until
the third period when Blyth tied
the score. With only 1:12
remaining in the third period
Kevin McArter scored the
winning goal on a beautiful pass
set up by. Danny Achilles.
Brussels held on to win 2-1 and
came home as Grand Champions
and a bunch of happy boys.
KevinKellington deserves
honourable mention for playing
super goal for the team that day.
