THE WINNERS The Brussels Atoms won the Don
Achilles Memorial Trophy at the Brussels Optimist
Tournament which was held over the past three
weekends. They won in the WOAA Atom D
championships and they also won the Seaforth
Optimist trophy. The winners in the front row from I
are: Jeff McGavin, Marty Rutledge, Kevin McArter,

Monk-ton
The local Intermediate hockey
club were hosts to the' Monkton
Wildcats on Sunday March 19, in
a sudden-death winner take all.
Consolation Championship game.
The Brussels fellows were in high
gear and tcame up with a 9-5
victory. Jerry Wheeler was
leading scorer with 5 goals, Bob
McDonald 2 goals, Rick.
McDonald and Ian McLellan 1
each. Assists went to Randy
White, Jerry Wheeler, Bob
McDonald, Glen Warwich, Bill
King, Scott Wheeler, Bob Bridge.
The team won the Consolation
Championship "D" trophy for
their efforts. It is possible the
fellows will be playing the
winners of the Palmerston-
Mitchell "CIL series for another
trophy.
Brussels man on wheelchair team
The Twin-City Spinners Whee-
chair basketball team closes out
its 1978 schedule this corn, ing
Sunday, April 2. The Spinners are
members of the Southern Ontario
Wheelchair Basketball League.
The team will be playing its final
home gime at Bluevale Collegiate
in Waterloo at 2:oo p.m.
Persons interested in viewing a
wheelchair basketball game and
knowing more about sports for
the disabled are invited to attend
the game this Sunday.
This team is of interest to
citizens of the area in that two of
the members are from Brussels
and Bernie Carpenter is frOm
Moorefield.
Like their colleagues with the
Spinners Bernie and. Dougs'
interest with sports for the
disabled extends beyond they
basketball court.
Bernie is a Provincial Champ-
ion in several field events and a
past competitor at the Canada —
Games for the Disabled in
Edmonton during 1977. Doug is a
former Provincial Champion in
swimming, and field events.
Doug is currently the chair-
person of the Central West
Regional Sports Council for the
Physically Disabled. This organ-
ization is composed of seven
members charged with the re-
sponsibility of promoting and
developing sport for disabled
persons. A major undertaking of
this committee has been the
overseeing of the staging of
regional games for the disabled to
be held in St. Catherines June 3
and 4.
Falls and Windsor. Competitors
at this event who successfully
attain provincial standards stand
the chance of being invited to the
Ontario Championships to be held.
in Windsor during the latter part
of June of this year.
