xplain markehn boords,.
At the Huron-Perth Presbytery
of the United Church meeting
recently at Clinton, the Division
of Mission in Canada presented a
Special panel on ,"Farm market-
ing Boards. Mrs, Evelyn
Demaray introduced the subject
and panel members stating that
the General Council .of the United
Church has gone on record as
affirming the principles upon
.which marketing boards, are es-
tablished.
The council has recommended
that the constituency of the
church be informed, in order to
promote understanding, support,
and approval of both the prod-
ucers and consumers for , the
implementation of these principl-
es. A farm marketing board was
defined as a compulsory horizont-
al marketing organization for
primary and processed natural
products under government dole-
_ gated authority.
The four products discussed
were milk, hogs, eggs, and white
beans. Panel members were John
Campbell, Bayfield;chairman of
Huron County Milk Committee,
Adrian Vos, of Blyth a committee-
man with the Ontario Pork
Producers Marketing' Board; Bill
Mickle of Exeter, past director of
the Ontario Egg ProdUcers"Mark,,

By Appointment,
Producers Marketing Board.
Each speaker ably gave back-
ground information on his part-
icular subject, followed by a
question and answer period.
Some facts revealed in the
discussion were that in Canada it
takes only six minutes work to
buy a litre of milk, nine minutes
work will buy 1 dozen eggs,
18% of disposable income is
spent on food of which farmers
receive 38% 4%of that 18% food
cost is spent in restaurants.
Officers of the Presbytery for
1978-1979, to take office in June,

There may be planty of snow
and cold weather around us right
now, but the Canada Manpower
Centre for Students is open in
Listowel and planning for the
spring and summer season
ahead.
.During the past two weeks,
Mrs. Donna Wheeler has been
hired by the Canada 'Manpower
Centre to be the Student
Coordinator; for the Student
Manpower office at 242 Inkerman
Street, Listowel.' Last year
student summer employment: in
the 'Arthur,. Brussels, Drayton,
Harriston, Listowel, Monkton,
Moorefield, Mt. Forest,
Palmerston and Wingham areas
showed an increase over 1976
placement figures, and it is hoped'
that this trend will continue
through the summer of 1978.
During the next few weeks,
Mrs. Wheeler will be contacting
employers throughout the area by
letter, phone, and in person in an
attempt to uncover as many
employment . opportunities as

possible for students this
summer. It is also hoped that the
householders of all the
communities in the Listowel CMC
area will support the campaign
and will consider students for odd
jobs around their properties,
businesses, cottages, etc. The
CMC provides services such as
the initial prescreening . of
students, a large market of
candidates, and it saves on
advertising costs and time.
Despite the Federal and
Provincial governments'
participation, the majority of job
vacancies in the past have come
from the "private sector".
Although the deadline for
submission of Young , Canada,
Works applications has passed,
community groups and
individuals" can, still formulate
private programs to stimulate
summer employment. Employers
or, householders who require
part-time or regular help should
contact the Centre at Lsitowel
291-2922.
Rev. Stanley McDonald;
Stewardship; Rev. Earl St, Jean.
The meeting, held at Wesley,
Willis United Church where
Chairman Rev, John Oestreicher
ministers, recommended Wm.
Richards of the Fordwich Charge
for ordination at Conference this
year.
Three ministers will be moving
into the Presbytery. Rev.' Roy L.
Babstock will come to Parkview,
Stratford from Essex Presbytery.
To Seaforth, • from Elgin
Presbytery, will come Rev. James
G. Vanslyke. From.
Saskatchewan, Rev. Daniel D.
Yourkevitch has• been called to
Tavistock. •
Rev. Glen D. Wright of Exeter
has been called to Middlesex
Outreach Ministry'.
A request for retirment on July
31, 1978 was granted to Rev.
Homer J. Dean, who is the
Associate Secretary of Ministry,
Personnel and Education in
Toronto. • . .
Rev. Grant Mills is now the
Assistant Minister at Exeter. A
Task Force is at work planning a
display tent for the Ploughing
Match, September 26-30.
It was suggested that members
of Presbytery write to their
Members of Parliament in sup-
port of a Private Member's Bill
C-207 on the subject of child
pornography.
An interim report from the
Task Force On Camping was
given by Harold Coade.
In their Stewardship report,
acted out as a role play, Mrs.
Doris Zurbrigg and committee
brought out pertinent facts of
interest. Huron-Perth increased
its giving to Mission and Service
by $2400. The total for 1977 was
$349,116.98 to the Mission and
Service Fund which was a 4.9%
increase.
The sobering fact is that this
increase is riot sufficient to keep
pace with inflation, thus total
givings have decreased. The
National goal for 1978 is
$17,600,000. Of this, $4,100,000
is the portion for world mission,
which is not a lot considering that
one million dollars will buy only
45 miles of lamp standards, or in
one eye-sweep, a runway at an
airport.
