Brussels rejects county wide .0HC.
Brussels council rejected a
proposal for county-wide
residencey for senior citizen's
housing at their Meeting on
Monday nighf.
"They (the county) should have
come here when they first opened
the building," councillor George
Jutzi said.
"If we keep it who has the right
to say who gets into it,"
councillor George Cousins asked.
"Right now they have to come
from Brussels, Morris and Grey
councillor Jutzi said.
"We get Morris, Brussels and
Grey. Why would we want to give
that away," he asked.
Councillor Jutzi made the
motion to leave the senior citizens
housing the way it is.
"That way people from Morris,
Brussels and Grey have at
chance," he said.
In other business council
discussed insurance benefits for
employees in the O.M.R.S.
(Ontario M unicipal Retirement
Savings) Plan.
Employees pay a portion above
their salary and also contribute to
Canada Pension Fund. Councillor
Tom Pletch said that they would
have to talk to the employees first
to see if they wanted to go in on it.
Council left the matter unsettled.
Council heard a deputation
from the Brussels Business
Associaton (BBA) regarding
suggestions they had been given
as to what could be done with the
old arena.
President of the association,
Ken Webster told council that one
suggestion the BBA had been
given was that they put the fire
department, the council meeting
place, and the PUC all into the
arena. Another suggestion was
that they call a real estate agent
and sell it:
Reeve Krauter said they would
An argument between Reeve
Cal Krauter and the other
Brussels councillors over
payment of a towing charge
disrupted part of Monday' night's
council meeting.
The reeve had earlier let two
people who had parked on the
side of .the street rather than in
the municipal parking lot
overnight get away without
payment 'of a towing charge
because they had told him the
parking lot was loaded with snow.
Councillor Malcolm Jacobs had
said at an earlier council meeting
that he had this checked out by
the road men and they told him
that it wasn't so..
On • Monday night Reeve
Krauter brought the towing
charge to council to be paid and
the argument started.
"I don't see why the taxpayers
should have to 'pay that bill,"
councillor Geroge Jutzi said.
Reeve Krauter - indicated taht
$20 spent for a beuquet of flowers
for a funeral without full prior
council approval amounted to the
same thing.
"Why did you take theta off the
hook without coming to council
about it," councillor Tom Pletch
'asked the reeve.
"I'm going to make a motion
that we don't pay that bill and you
can do whatever you like with it,"
Mr, Pieta told the reeve.
"YoU can do what you like and
I won't pay for the flowers,"
Reeve Krauter said.
"I'll pay for the flowerS",
councillor Pletch said. "There's
no damn way pay that bill,"
he added.
"I'll make a Motion that we
de/1'i pay that bill and I want a
seconder," he
Councillor Jacobs said from
consider the suggestiom Mr.
Webster also told council that the
BBA had examined a new street
ign which would cost $65 a
corner if installed in Brussels. He
said they wanted to get a couple
of other prices before buying
these ones.
Fire Chief David Hastings told
council he could get a special
price on nozzles for the hoses for
the fire trucks. He said they were
regularly $281.95 and he could
get them on special for $199.95.
Council told him to buy two new
nozzles.
The fire chief also said that new
coats were needed for the
firemen. He said that the coats
presently used were 25 years old.,
Reeve Cal Krauter said they
would have to put it in their
budget.
Council decided to give the
recreation committee a grant of
$25.00 so they could pay the
insurance on the new arena.
In his property report, Malcolm
Jacobs said that a number of
signs had been broken off on
Sunday night but that the people
who had done it had been caught.
He said the officer in charge
had told him to make out a bill for
the expenses and that the guilty
party would be in to nay.
John Sims, assistant manager
of theRoyal Bank branch , which
was recently opened in Brussels
asked council to give some
consideration to using the new
branch for loan business and
deposit business.
Bob Copland • owner of the

"From here on in I'm going to
tell them it's not my department.
"I don't think too much of you",
