She practices her sidling
mostly after school because she
misses so much time away from
school for competitions. Her next
competition is at North Bay. in
March.
Carol, who also judges skating
at the lower Revels, thinks that in
the future she'd like 'to teach
skating or judge it and she also
wants to teach dancing.
If future dreams are made of
past realities then Carol Wheeler
is likely to fulfill her ambitions.

Far from first
The seventh place honor is far
from being Carol's first
achievement in the figure skating
world. Last year she got first in
Sarnia in singles, first in North
Bay in pairs and singles first in
Interclub in singles in the
surrounding counties of Huron,
Perth and Bruce, first in St.
Caitherines for singles) second in
pairs in Toronto, fourth in pairs in
Brantford and fifth / in Winnipeg
in pairs. Last year at the
Canadian Skating Championships
held in Calgary, she land Blaine
placed seventh.
Last Friday,evening she got her
gold medal 'in figure skating
dancing at Kincardine.
Carol has been skating
competitively for about six years
now and in pairs competition for
about four years, She' first, got
staked in figure 'skating when
she took private lessons and was
told she should start going -la
summer school .and take more
lessons. Carol said her teacher,at
that time, Faye M acDonald,
figures she should go on and
everybody kept encouraging her
so she kept up with it.
Home Club
She joined theWingham Figure
Skating Club five years ago and
that is now her home club in
competitions. The Wingham
Club is Blaine's home club and
her pro teacher for pairs teaches
mostly in •Wigham. She is also a
member of the Brussels Figure
Skating Club. Carol practices her
skating in Urussels, and
• Wingham and also in Vanastra
because her pariteners parents
own the arena there.
Carol also has other activities to
include unity, fraternity, charity
and. 'patriotism. The K. of. C.
support other activities such as
the Pro Life Movement, and also
sponsor a basketball free-throw

lessons even before she started
skating.
She has taken various ,kinds of
dancing, including ballet, step
dancing, tap dancing and even
ballroom dancing. ' Piano too
She has also taken piano
lessons for eight years and just
tried her Grade 7 exams. She is
still awaiting the results of those.
Carol has something to keep
her buSy every night of the week.
"I've just always been that
way. I'irbe bored. if I didn't have
something On," she said.
Carol doesn't think her
occupations are lonely , ones
either.
"I've met a lot of people through
my skating. I have friends all over
Canada now," she said.
